Four-star wing Gehrig Normand recaps his official visit to Wisconsin

Wisconsin recently had a high-priority wing on campus for an official visit:

Earlier this week, fast-rising four-star wing Gehrig Normand out of North Richland Hills, Texas took an official visit to Wisconsin.

“I think what stood out most was the people. Everyone was so welcoming and so nice,” said Normand.

According to the Rivals recruiting database, the four-star wing is the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 16 shooting guard in the country.

“We did everything on my visit. I went to Barry Alvarez’s house, was on Facetime with Sam Dekker, hung out with the players, and even did a photo shoot.”

The Birdville High School standout has now taken official visits to both Missouri and Wisconsin. He also plans to visit Texas and Oklahoma State before making a potential decision later this summer.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can be as confident as possible, and a school where I can trust the coach and have them trust me so I can put a product on the floor that wins a National Championship,” Normand told BadgersWire. “Wisconsin is definitely a school I can see myself at, I just need to narrow down everything and see where I fit best.”

As Wisconsin continues trending toward playing position-less basketball, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound wing makes a ton of sense for the Badgers. The Texas native is a tough and versatile scorer who can space the floor with his three-point shooting, and also take defenders off the dribble.

“My first impression of Coach Gard was that he’s one of the nicest coaches I’ve ever met. He’s super relatable and puts himself in other people’s shoes,” said Normand.

Coach Gard is in need of a true wing prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and has firmly zeroed in on Jamie Kaiser and Gehrig Normand. Both of which would pair nicely with John Blackwell and Gus Yalden who are already committed to UW.

Wisconsin makes top four list for 2023 OLB Jordan Mayer

Wisconsin makes the top four for a three-star OLB in the 2023 class:

After offering 2023 outside linebacker Jordan Mayer back in April, the three-star edge rusher has officially narrowed down his list of schools down to four.

Moving forward, the Pennsylvania native will be focusing on Wisconsin, Cincinnati, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech. He also held offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo, and several others.

Per the 247Sports composite, Mayer is the No. 863 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 53 EDGE in the country, and the No. 24 player in the state of Pennsylvania. You can watch his highlights here.

As a junior, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound OLB registered 68 tackles, three sacks, and two pass deflections.

Wisconsin reaches out to a new wing in the 2023 recruiting class

Wisconsin has reached out to a 2023 wing from Texas:

Wisconsin’s offense is beginning to trend toward three guard starting lineups, so the Badgers are continuing to do their homework on bigger wings that can space the floor in the 2023 recruiting class. Preferably ones that could pair with the two commits they already have in place with John Blackwell and Gus Yalden.

Earlier this week, Greg Gard and his coaching staff spoke with 2023 three-star guard/forward Gehrig Normand out of North Richland Hills, Texas.

Per 247sports, Normand is the No. 49 SF in the country, and the No. 18 player in the state of Texas. As a junior, he averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals per game.

The Birdville High School standout currently holds offers from Colorado State, Kansas State, New Mexico, Oral Roberts, Rice, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Xavier and several others.

From what the three-star wing told BadgersWire, this was a phone call from coach Gard so that the two of them could better get to know each other.

“I watched a lot of Wisconsin during March Madness and I always loved the way they played,” said Normand.

The two sides discussed the possibility of getting Normand up to Madison for a visit, but nothing has been scheduled as of yet.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can be as confident as possible, and a school where I can trust the coach and have them trust me so I can put a product on the floor that wins a National Championship,” said Normand.

Standing at 6-foot-6, 175-pounds, Normand is a versatile scorer who can space the floor or take defenders off the dribble. He has good size for the position, and plays with the kind of toughness and selflessness that make him worth a deeper look for UW’s coaching staff.

Badgers make the cut for their top remaining QB target in the 2023 recruiting class:

After offering 2023 quarterback Lincoln Kienholz earlier this month, the three-star signal caller has officially narrowed down his list of schools down to four.

Moving forward, the South Dakota native will be focusing on Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and North Dakota State. He also held offers from Colorado State, Illinois, Kansas State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and several others.

Per 247sports, Kienholz is the No. 60 ranked quarterback prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and the top ranked player in the state of South Dakota. You can watch his highlights here

As a junior, the T.F. Riggs High School standout threw for 3,359 yards and 37 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He also ran for an additional 1,165 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

2023 three-star TE Zach Ortwerth locks in an official visit to Wisconsin

Wisconsin locks in an official visit from a top TE target in the 2023 recruiting class:

The Wisconsin Badgers have been red hot on the recruiting trail as of late, and have now locked in an official visit with one of their top tight end targets in the 2023 class.

Yesterday, three-star TE Zach Ortwerth out of Saint Louis, Missouri announced that he would be taking an official visit to Wisconsin from June 3-5.

Per the 247Sports Composite, Ortwerth is the No. 663 overall prospect in the 2023 class, the No. 33 TE in the country, and the No. 17 player in the state of Missouri.

Last season, the Saint Louis University High School standout caught 20 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, he registered 76 tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble on defense. You can watch his junior season highlights here.

Wisconsin basketball’s remaining big board in the 2023 recruiting class

After landing two commitments in the 2023 recruiting class, all attention pivots to these three prospects:

Greg Gard and the Wisconsin men’s basketball program are in a really good spot with the 2023 recruiting class as they enter the July evaluation period.

As it stands, UW has already received verbal commitments from three-star combo-guard John Blackwell, and four-star center Gus Yalden – giving coach Gard a really solid foundation to build on.

Typically speaking, July is when most of the under the radar prospects see their recruitment take off – making it increasingly difficult for a school like Wisconsin to stay in the mix once the blue bloods come knocking. So, having already sealed the deal on two priority recruits at this point in the cycle is rather impressive.

Wisconsin is expected to take three, possibly even four prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle. So, having two players already in the fold allows coach Gard the flexibility to put the full-court press on his remaining top of the board recruits.

Here are, in no particular order, the three recruits I expect coach Gard to prioritize in the 2023 recruiting class moving forward:

Wisconsin lands a commitment from 2023 three-star RB Nate White

Wisconsin lands their sixth commitment in the 2023 recruiting class:

Paul Chryst and company are red hot on the recruiting trail, securing their sixth commitment in the 2023 recruiting class from running back Nate White out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

White, the only in-state player with a scholarship offer in 2023, committed to Wisconsin over offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan.

Per the 247sports Composite, White is the No. 670 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 48 RB in the country, and the No. 1 player in the state of Wisconsin.

As a junior, the 6-foot, 175-pound RB ran for 1,163 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding an additional 132 yards receiving in just nine games. You can watch his highlights here.

On tape, the things that stand out are White’s speed (4.5 40-yard dash), his agility, and overall elusiveness. The three-star recruit has the makings of a one-cut back who can quickly change direction and be a big play threat for the Badgers.

White announced his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin via his Twitter account:

Wisconsin offers 2024 four-star CB Jaylen McClain:

The Seton Hall Prep standout currently holds offers from Boston College, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas A&M, and several other Power Five schools.

McClain is just the fifth CB to receive an offer from Wisconsin during the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Wisconsin offers 2024 four-star IOL Ian Moore

Wisconsin offers 2024 four-star IOL Ian Moore:

Earlier today, Paul Chryst and his coaching staff offered 2024 interior offensive lineman Ian Moore out of New Palestine, Indiana.

Per 247sports, Moore is the No. 89 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 5 IOL in the country, and the No. 2 player in the state of Indiana. You can watch his highlights here.

The New Palestine High School standout currently holds offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee, and a host of other Power Five schools.

Moore is just the second IOL to receive an offer from Wisconsin during the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Wisconsin offers 2025 TE Bear Tenney

Wisconsin offers 2025 TE Bear Tenney:

Yesterday, Paul Chryst and his coaching staff offered 2025 tight end Bear Tenney out of Chandler, Arizona.

Per Arizona Central Sports, Tenney is the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Arizona.

The 6-foot-5, 226-pound TE caught 4 passes for 54 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman this past season. You can watch his highlights here.

The Hamilton High School standout currently holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Louisville, Marshall, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, and Washington.

Bear, while just a freshman, appears to have all the tools to be ranked among the top players at TE in the 2025 recruiting class.

Tenney is just the sixth player to receive an offer from Wisconsin during the 2025 recruiting cycle.
