Wisconsin football social media reacts to an ugly home loss to Iowa

Wisconsin loses ugly at Camp Randall…

It was a disastrous offense performance on Saturday as Wisconsin fell 15-6 to Iowa and with it fell out of the Big Ten West drivers seat.

The Badger offense dealt with a right arm injury to Tanner Mordecai that knocked him out late in the first half, and struggled no matter if it was Mordecai or freshman Braedyn Locke leading the offense.

Iowa capitalized on an 82-yard run by LeShon Williams in the first half, the outstanding punting of Tory Taylor, and a defense that was as good as advertised to take the lead in a Big Ten West that lacks a dominant team.

Here is how Wisconsin football Twitter reacted to the loss:

BadgersWire Staff Predictions: Homecoming for Wisconsin against Rutgers

The Badgers return home to take on Rutgers

The Badgers return home to the friendly confines of Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Rutgers visits Madison for a Big Ten battle.

Wisconsin opened up their conference account with a win at Purdue, while the Scarlet Knights sit at 1-1 in Big Ten play after a season-opening win over Northwestern and a loss at Michigan.

The Scarlet Knights have been largely impressive in the early going this season, relying on a unique offensive structure and stout defense to build a 4-1 record through five games. Here is how our BadgersWire staff sees Saturday going for Wisconsin:

Five takeaways from Wisconsin’s 38-17 win at Purdue

The Badgers come away with a win in their Big Ten opener

The Badgers started fast and it proved to be enough off of a cushion to keep Purdue at bay late as Wisconsin won their first Big Ten contest 38-17 under new head coach Luke Fickell.

The Badgers improved to 3-1 (1-0 BIG) behind Tanner Mordecai’s miraculous first quarter where the Wisconsin quarterback rushed for a pair of scores, caught a pass, and had everything clicking.

Leading 21-3 at halftime, Wisconsin was in cruise control before the Boilermakers scored 14 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 27-17.

The fourth quarter was smooth sailing for the Badgers, who clinched the game on a strange fumble by Hudson Card midway through the fourth. The night was marred with the loss of running back Chez Mellusi, who went down in the fourth quarter with what looks like a very serious leg injury.

Here are five takeaways from Wisconsin’s win at Purdue:

Wisconsin fans react to Tanner Mordecai’s unbelievable first quarter at Purdue

Tanner Mordecai just had his best quarter in a Badger uniform

It doesn’t get better than what Tanner Mordecai just did in the first quarter at Purdue. To put it into perspective, at the end of the first fifteen minutes the Badger quarterback was the leading passer, rusher, and receiver for Wisconsin’s offense. Yes, receiver.

Mordecai finished the first quarter with a pair of rushing touchdowns to give Wisconsin a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. It was a Heisman-like quarter from number eight, who also caught a pass on a wild double toss that resulted in a 19-yard completion.

BadgersWire Staff Predictions: A tougher test for the Badgers at Washington State

It gets tougher in Week 2 as Wisconsin travels to Pullman

It’s redemption week for a Wisconsin football team that fell to Washington State at Camp Randall just a year ago.

The Cougars won a 17-14 barnburner at Camp Randall a year ago, but that was a very different Wisconsin team. Since then, there has been a head coaching change, a quarterback change, and a new-look defense that will look to get their revenge on a very solid Cougars team.

Both teams took care of their Week 1 opponents relatively easily, with Wisconsin overcoming early struggles to take down Buffalo 38-17 and the Cougars dropping 50 points on Colorado State in a route.

Here is what our BadgersWire staff thinks of Saturday night’s matchup:

WATCH: Chimere Dike is mic’d up at practice

The Badger captain wears the mic in practice

Wisconsin’s “(Wi)red” series comes with a bit of added juice this week because there is a football game to be played on Saturday.

This week, the Badgers put the mic on a recently selected captain in veteran wide receiver Chimere Dike. From Will Pauling’s socks that looked like they were fresh out of YMCA soccer to a number of grabs in practice, there were some good moments from Dike’s segment.

Alongside a new-look wide receiver room, Dike and the Badgers will be in action on Saturday against Buffalo. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT from Camp Randall Stadium.

WATCH: Luke Fickell’s opening speech to the team during game week

The Badgers head coach addresses the squad on Monday

It’s Week 1. The first game week of the new era of Wisconsin football is officially here as the Badgers prepare to take on Buffalo on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

Wisconsin’s new head coach Luke Fickell and a new-look staff and roster have spent the summer readying for this moment, and the Badger coach addressed his team at the start of Monday morning.

The message? It’s about us. It’s not about what anybody else is doing or who Wisconsin is playing week in and week out. It’s about what the Badgers can do to be the best version of themselves individually and collectively. Here is a look at the first-year Wisconsin head coach addressing the squad:

WATCH: Another preseason sack for rookie Nick Herbig

WATCH: Another preseason sack for rookie Nick Herbig

Nick Herbig has arguably looked like the early steal of the NFL Draft as preseason has gone on. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a gem from Wisconsin, something they are used to, when they took Herbig in the fourth round of the 2023 draft.

Through his first two games, he tallied a total of 22 pass-rush snaps. In that time heโ€™s registered four pressures, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

He added to those totals tonight as the Steelers blasted the Atlanta Falcons 24-0 in their third preseason matchup. Herbig had yet another sack, and continues to catch the attention of NFL media. Here is a look at his latest masterclass on the line:

The Badgers are coming off yet another bowl win as they took down Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Will Ohio State and Michigan, or neither, get back to the College Football Playoff in 2023?

In all, Athlon Sports has nine Big Ten teams ending up in a bowl game. Here is where they are in the preseason projections:

Wisconsin offers 6-foot-8 2025 offensive tackle

Wisconsin offers a 6-foot-8 offensive tackle

The Badgers added to their 2025 offer sheet last week when Wisconsin extended an offer to offensive lineman Eidan Buchanan.

The three-star offensive tackle stands 6 feet, 8 inches and 310 pounds according to his 247Sports profile. Buchanan is a Maryland native who plays his high school football for Good Counsel High School.

The 2025 offensive lineman has offers from Maryland, Boston College, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and USF along with the Badgers.

The Badgers have one early commit in the 2025 class. Quarterback Landyn Locke, the younger brother of current Wisconsin quarterback Braedyn Locke, committed to the Badgers last month.
