Two Big Ten teams remain in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Only two Big Ten teams remained in the last USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll before the NCAA Tournament:

After falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament, the Wisconsin Badgers remained soundly outside the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll on Sunday afternoon.

Northwestern dropped from its spot at No. 25 to unranked after the Wildcats were upset by Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal. The Nittany Lions also surprised Indiana in the semifinal, which caused the Hoosiers to fall from No. 17 to No. 19 in the latest poll.

The USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll top 10 for this week is Virginia(10), Gonzaga(9), Arizona(8), Texas(7), UCLA(6), Kansas(5), Marquette(4), Purdue(3), Alabama(2) and Houston(1).

While the NCAA Tournament will be underway on Thursday, the Wisconsin Badgers will return to action against Bradley in the NIT on Tuesday night.

PHOTOS: Wisconsin falls to Ohio State 65-57 in the Big Ten Tournament

Photos from Wisconsin basketball’s disappointing first-round exit to the Big Ten Tournament against the Ohio State Buckeyes:

Despite a substantial second-half comeback led by forward Tyler Wahl, the Wisconsin Badgers could not pull out the victory and fell 65-57 to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Wisconsin struggled to find the basket in the first half and the Buckeyes’ lead eventually grew to 27 points with 15 minutes left in the game. Wahl’s game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds helped the Badgers to cut the lead to as little as five before Ohio State closed out in the final minute.

This loss was a huge hit to Wisconsin’s NCAA Tournament hopes, and they will have to wait until Sunday to find out if they are able to sneak into the field.

How to watch the Wisconsin Badgers against Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday night:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday night, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Badgers are entering the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament with urgency, as they will need to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since early January to keep themselves in the NCAA Tournament picture. Luckily, the Buckeyes have struggled tremendously in the Big Ten this year including losing to Wisconsin at home in February.

The Badgers will likely look to their frontcourt of Steven Crowl and Tyler Wahl, who scored 42 of Wisconsin’s 71 points against Minnesota. It was great to see both of Wisconsin’s bigs on the same page, and, hopefully, they can continue to carry that momentum into the postseason.

It should be an exciting game to watch as the Badgers will battle not only to move on in the Big Ten Tournament but for their NCAA Tournament hopes.

Is Wisconsin on the wrong side of the bubble according to ESPN bracketology?

Wisconsin enters Big Ten tournament play firmly on the bubble, a place they have been over the past month.

The Badgers have an up-and-down resume, filled with a few impressive wins and a number of close losses.

Wisconsin enters Big Ten tournament play at 17-13 overall and 9-11 in the conference after a needed win at Minnesota.

The Badgers still have work to do, and ESPN’s latest bracket is further proof of that. According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, Wisconsin is currently one of the first four teams out of the field. The Badgers are joined by Arizona State, Oklahoma State, and North Carolina on the wrong side of the bubble. Rutgers is among the last four teams in.

Northwestern climbs back into the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Northwestern climbs into the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after Maryland loses two-straight games:

The Wisconsin Badgers went 1-1 again this week, although they nearly beat the No. 3-ranked Purdue Boilermakers in a nailbiter on Thursday night. The close loss and victory over Minnesota on Sunday were not enough to bring the Badgers into the latest USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

The saga between Northwestern and Maryland in the poll continued this week as the Wildcats climbed back into the poll at No. 25, while the Terrapins went from No. 24 to unranked. Maryland has lost their last two games to Penn State and Ohio State.

The USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll for this week includes Baylor(10), Arizona(9), Gonzaga(8), Texas(7), Marquette(6), Alabama(5), Kansas(4), Purdue(3), UCLA(2) and Houston(1).

It should be interesting to see how the Big Ten shakes out come Selection Sunday, especially with the Big Ten Tournament beginning on Wednesday.

How to watch the Wisconsin Badgers on the road against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday night:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday night, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Badgers are coming into this game fighting for their postseason hopes and are desperate for a win over the Golden Gophers. Wisconsin got the better of Minnesota in their first matchup at the Kohl Center earlier this season; however, the Golden Gophers are coming off of an insane comeback victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The Badgers will likely rely on guard Max Klesmit, who has been red-hot over the last few games. Klesmit’s scoring in the second half against Purdue helped to keep them in the game, and his defense has been vital in containing opposing backcourts.

Wisconsin needs a victory in this game to remain in the NCAA Tournament picture, so it should be exciting to watch as the border rivals face off.

PHOTOS: Wisconsin basketball loses back-and-forth game to Purdue 63-61

Photos from Wisconsin basketball’s heartbreaking 63-61 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday night:

Despite their best effort, the Wisconsin Badgers were unable to pull off the upset against the No. 5-ranked Purdue Boilermakers and fell in a heartbreaking 63-61 loss at the Kohl Center.

Wisconsin played extremely well throughout this game, spurred by a phenomenal second half from guard Max Klesmit. He finished with a game-high 19 points and three steals that kept the Badgers neck and neck with the Boilermakers. It was unfortunately not enough to hold off one of the top teams in the country, and Purdue was able to close out the game in the final minute.

The Badgers head on the road to play their final regular season matchup on Sunday night against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Connor Essegian has a message for Wisconsin fans tonight

Connor Essegian has a message for Wisconsin fans tonight

The Badgers have their biggest game of the season looming as Purdue visits the Kohl Center on Thursday night.

Wisconsin currently sits at 8-10 in the Big Ten and firmly on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. Purdue is the top team in the conference at 13-5 as they look to clinch an outright regular-season title.

Wisconsin guard Connor Essegian had a simple message for a Kohl Center crowd that is already sold out. It should go without saying, but the freshman from Indiana had to make it clear. The Kohl Center crowd needs to be absolutely on fire tonight. An NCAA Tournament bid is likely at stake.

Wisconsin vs. Purdue: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Thursday

How to watch the Wisconsin Badgers against the No. 5-ranked Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday night:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday night, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Boilermakers will be a difficult task for Wisconsin even at the Kohl Center since they are one of the top teams in the country this season led by talented center Zach Edey. Although Edey has been solid for Purdue the last few years, this season has been different as he has averaged 22 points and nearly 13 rebounds per game. It will take a combined effort from Tyler Wahl and Steven Crowl in Wisconsin’s frontcourt to stop Purdue’s 7-foot-4 leading scorer.

On offense, Wisconsin will need another big night from freshman guard Connor Essegian. This will be especially true if the Badgers are without point guard Chucky Hepburn, who is listed as day-to-day with a knee injury that sidelined him for the second half of Sunday’s game against Michigan.

It should be an exciting game to watch, as Wisconsin will try to upset one of the top teams in the country and improve its resume ahead of the NCAA Tournament.
