Pac-12 resurgence, Wisconsin’s downfall and rank(ed) Kansas: Winners and losers from Week 5 of the college football season

Our impressions from a wild week that saw 10 ranked teams fall.

Week after week, the 2022 college football season has treated us to absolute mayhem.

Things have been rather chalky up at the top (despite Georgia’s best efforts), but otherwise, the middle class has been entirely unpredictable. Ten teams that entered Week 5 ranked in the AP Top 25 lost, resulting in a big shakeup in the polls as we enter Week 6.

In addition to all that movement, we also saw two more Power Five jobs open up on Sunday — one fairly surprising, the other not so much.

It’s hard to believe we’re already in the month of October and closing in on the halfway point of the season, but it just goes to show how important each and every game is, at least under the current postseason format.

Here are the winners and losers from Week 5:

Winners and losers from a quietly compelling Week 4 of the college football season

From James Madison to Oklahoma, here’s who impressed (and didn’t) in Week 4.

We’ve been treated to some absolute mayhem to begin the 2022 college football season.

By comparison, Week 4 wasn’t necessarily the most memorable. But if you look beyond the top five — all of which won, despite a couple of close calls — there were some wild results.

A pair of top-10 teams losing undefeated status, a couple of highly improbable comebacks and yet another Power Five job opening up headlined a week that featured plenty of intrigue once you get past the chalk of the elite tier.

Without further ado, here are the winners and losers from the fourth week of college football action.

The hot seat edition: Winners and losers from Week 3 of the college football season

Whether it was troubled coaches reversing the narrative or turning up the pressure even higher, the hot-seat discussion dominated our Week 3 winners and losers.

Week 3’s slate of college football matchups couldn’t quite live up to the upset-fest that was Week 2, but it was an eventful Saturday, nonetheless.

The defining theme this week was the hot seat. We saw the second coach firing of the season, as Arizona State fired Herm Edwards and became the latest Power Five program to go shopping for a head coach.

Some embattled coaches managed to reverse the narrative, while others all but sealed their fates. Regardless, Week 3 gave us a lot more clarity on a number of situations around the country. These storylines dominated a weekend that didn’t see many shakeups at the top of the sport, though it still featured some thrilling outcomes.

With that in mind, here are the winners and losers from the third week of the college football season.

Sun Belt triumph, Alabama’s close call and the downfall of Scott Frost: Winners and losers from a wild Week 2

Week 2 featured three top-10 teams falling and the first coach firing of the season.

What just happened?

Generally, the second week of the college football season is a bit of a slog compared to Week 1, and this week’s slate didn’t appear to be the strongest. How wrong we were.

In one of the wildest single weekends of college football in recent memory, three top-10 teams went down — two of which lost to opponents from the Sun Belt. Unranked Texas took No. 1 Alabama to the wire, and after yet another embarrassing one-score loss, Nebraska finally pulled the plug on the Scott Frost experiment.

Let’s try to make sense of the madness in Week 2 of the 2022 season, which is shaping up to be potentially bonkers.

Winners and losers from Week 1 of college football

Who stood out in Week 1 of the college football season?

College football is officially back in full swing. Fans were treated to an epic opening weekend with no storage of excitement.

No. 3 Georgia made a huge statement in its dominant 49-3 victory over No. 11 Oregon. The defending champs have reloaded and are ready to defend their title.

No. 2 Ohio State outlasted No. 5 Notre Dame in a bit of a defensive battle at the Horseshoe. The Buckeyes pulled away late to win 21-10 despite an impressive effort from the Irish.

Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson was one of the most dynamic players in the country over the weekend. He led his Gators to a thrilling 29-26 upset over No. 7 Utah.

LSU and Florida State got together on Sunday in what turned out to be a chaotic affair. LSU scored what looked to be a game-tying touchdown after some questionable coaching decisions on both sides and proceeded to have the PAT blocked. The Seminoles escaped with the 24-23 win after the roller coaster of a game.

Here is a look at some of the winners and losers from Week 1 of the 2022 college football season.

Billy Napier, Brian Kelly and Pac-12 despair: Winners and losers from Week 1 of the college football season

Who is feeling good (and who isn’t) after a wild Week 1?

The first full weekend of the college football season is in the books, and though it wasn’t the most loaded Week 1 slate in recent memory, fans were still treated to all the craziness they could have asked for.

To sum things up: Florida stunned No. 7 Utah in the Swamp to kick off the Billy Napier era, a Georgia team filled with new faces absolutely crushed Oregon and a second-half comeback allowed a shorthanded Ohio State to survive at the Horseshoe in a top-five matchup against Notre Dame and new coach Marcus Freeman.

Oh, and to top it all off, we had whatever transpired between LSU and Florida State in the Superdome on Sunday night.

Some teams are riding high after the first game while others are licking their wounds following a rough opener. We’ll cover the whole range of emotions as we look at the winners and losers from Week 1.

Backup QB competitors, secondary depth among winners, losers for Cowboys vs Seahawks

Dallas has some strong performances in their exhibition win over the Seattle Seahawks. Here’s who made a lasting impression, both good and bad. | From @BenGrimaldi

The Dallas Cowboys ended their exhibition season with a thrilling win over the Seattle Seahawks, 27-26. The outcome of the game was much less important than the performance of the guys fighting for their place on the depth chart or earning a roster spot.

With only three preseason games this year, this was the last chance to make the best impression. The Cowboys played it safe and didn’t put many of their most important players in harm’s way as the regular season is just around the corner. The Cowboys got solid performances from players on the roster bubble. With cutdowns right around the corner, the Cowboys will have some difficult decisions to make.

Here are some of the winners and losers from Friday night’s exciting action.

Winners and losers after first week of Bears training camp

The Chicago Bears have already completed over a week of training camp and a few players are standing out, both positively and negatively.

The Chicago Bears have already completed over one week of training camp at Halas Hall and a few players are standing out, both positively and negatively.

There’s still a long way to go until the final roster is set and preseason games have yet to get underway, but here are the winners and losers at this point during camp for the Bears.

LSU’s quarterbacks deemed a loser from Day 1 of SEC Media Days by Tennessean

Brian Kelly remained uncommitted about the starting quarterback.

LSU’s [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] got things started at SEC Media Days in Atlanta on Monday, becoming the first coach to take to the podium in what was his first time participating in a media days event since he was at Cincinnati in 2009.

Kelly discussed a wide variety of topics and gave us some insight into his thought processes heading into fall camp, but it wasn’t the most illuminating press conference. One question Kelly didn’t provide much of an answer for is likely the one LSU fans are most interested in: Who will be this team’s starting quarterback?

The first-year Tigers coach offered praise for all four of the players competing — [autotag]Myles Brennan[/autotag], [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] and [autotag]Walker Howard[/autotag] — and praised the depth, though he said the spring was more about installing the offense than determining a starter.

Because of his non-committal answer, the quarterback group was labeled a “loser” from Day 1 by the Nashville Tennessean’s Derrian Carter.

Brian Kelly remained uncommitted about naming LSU’s starter.

“We’re really going to have to set the offensive structure and its installation to the skill set of the particular players,” Kelly said. “No. 1, they’ve got to take care of the football. No. 2, they have to get the ball to playmakers. … No. 3, they’ve got to make plays.

“The ultimate decision-making on who that quarterback is, he’ll have to hit those three notes.”

While it could be potentially concerning that none of the quarterbacks managed to separate during the spring, each has their strengths, and it’s hard to believe LSU won’t be able to find success with one of them lining up under center.

It was highly unlikely Kelly was going to announce the starter on Monday, and the competition will almost certainly carry into fall camp and potentially even into the season. It’s important to identify your guy and move forward with him, but the Tigers still have time to figure that out before it becomes a cause for worry.

Highlighting the winners and losers for the Packers following the 2022 NFL draft. Why is Aaron Rodgers a winner?

The Green Bay Packers reshaped their roster and added young talent to the foundation of the franchise by making 11 picks during the 2022 NFL draft.

As is the case after every draft, there are winners and losers. Some players get a vote of confidence, others are put on immediate notice. Some get opportunity, some lose it. Some are helped, others hurt.

With the draft and rookie minicamp now in the rear-view mirror, here are the biggest winners and biggest losers coming out of the draft for the Packers:
