UFC Fight Night 243 results: William Gomis gets nod over Joanderson Brito in Paris

Was this UFC Paris decision between William Gomis and Joanderson Brito the right call or home cooking?

[autotag]William Gomis[/autotag] walked away with the victory Saturday in front of his home country crowd, though many viewers disagreed with the decision.

On the UFC Fight Night 243 main card, Gomis (13-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) defeated an aggressive [autotag]Joanderson Brito[/autotag] (17-4-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) in their featherweight bout at Accor Arena in Paris (via X):

Brito was highly aggressive particularly in the first half of the fight. He winged punches with massive heat behind them as Gomis largely tried to avoid the blows. Brito nearly pulled off a successful guillotine choke but the end-of-first-round bell blocked it.

Brito continued his aggression in the second with his cardio holding up well. Gomis found success in Round 3, and ultimately it was enough to sway the judges’ scorecards in his favor.

The decision was debated online with the majority of fans and media scoring the fight 29-28 for Brito, according to MMA Decisions. At the time of publication, 10 of 13 media members submitted scorecards for Brito while 90 percent of fans also had it for the Brazilian.

Gomis maintains his perfect UFC resume that also includes wins over Jarno Errens, Francis Marshall, and Yanis Ghemmouri.

Brito, meanwhile, has a five-fight winning streak snapped.

UFC Fight Night 243: William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 243 odds for William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito, with MMA picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

In a 3-round featherweight bout on the main card, William Gomis and Joanderson Brito meet at UFC Fight Night 243 Saturday at Accor Arena in Paris, France. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s UFC odds around the UFC Fight Night 243: Gomis vs. Brito odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The prelims begin at noon ET on ESPN+, and the main card begins at 3 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Records: Gomis (13-2-0) | Brito (17-3-1)

Gomis is a perfect 3-for-3 since arriving at the UFC level. He has a pair of decision victories, and he had a KO/TKO in Round 3 against Yanis Ghemmouri last time out on Sept. 2, 2023.

The Frenchman will be making his 3rd appearance in as many events in his native France. In addition to the win over Ghemmouri, Gomis topped Jarno Errens via unanimous decision in Paris on Sept. 3, 2022.

Brito — nicknamed “Tubarao” — looks to extend his win streak to 6 straight bouts since losing via unanimous decision against Bill Algeo in January 2022. That win streak includes a TKO — doctor’s stoppage against Jack Shore at UFC 301 last time out on May 4. The 29-year-old has 5 straight finishes, including 3 wins in round 1.

The southpaw Gomis has a 1-inch reach advantage, but Brito has a 3.35-to-2.62 lead, while he also has a 60.15% significant strikes accuracy percentage to just 52.63% for the Frenchman. Brito has a 3.11 takedown average, and 76.92% takedown accuracy percentage, although Gomis has a slight 0.71-to-0.62 lead in submission average.

UFC Fight Night 243: Gomis vs. Brito picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Brito (-350) will set you back 3½ times the potential return if you want to play him straight up. That’s way too much risk for not enough reward.

While Gomis (+260) is fighting in his native France, it is too risky to bet on him. While he has a slight reach advantage, nearly all other stats go in favor of the Brazilian.

For a better value, look to the 5-way line in “Method of Victory”, taking BRITO BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+100) at even-money for a much better value.

Over/Under (O/U)

Go with NO (-135): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? if you’re a little more conservative. If you’re a bit more adventurous, take a chance on UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+100) at even-money.

You could also get a little fancy, and go with round betting, and take the favorite in a 2-round block. Go with BRITO IN ROUND 2 (+400) and BRITO IN ROUND 3 (+600) for the win. Sure, you’ll lose 1 of the ends, even if he wins in rounds 2-3. But, if he doesn’t get the finish in 1 of the final 2 rounds, you’ll still be well ahead, too.

Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 243

Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle is an interesting welterweight attraction at UFC Paris.

[autotag]Kevin Jousset[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryan Battle[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 243 at Accor Arena in Paris. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 3-2
UFC main cards, 2024: 79-68-3

Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle UFC Paris preview

Jousset (10-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) enters UFC Paris looking for his third consecutive win to open his UFC tenure after beating Kiefer Crosbie and Kenan Song in 2023. This fight marks his first of the year. … Battle (10-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) was none too pleased after his last fight that ended in a no contest, accusing Ange Loosa of milking an accidental eye poke. Prior to that, “The Ultimate Fighter 29” winner had won back-to-back bouts and hopes to regain momentum.

Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle UFC Paris expert pick, prediction

Although you could argue that Battle is due for some bigger names, Jousset is a well-trained fighter who brings a solid game to the table.

Not only does Jousset have the grappling ability that you would assume with his judo roots, but the City Kickboxing representative also demonstrates the savvy jabs, feints and leg kicks that you would associate with his more well-known stablemates.

However, aside from the fact that Battle also has some judo roots of his own, “The Ultimate Fighter” winner also looks like he can keep pace with the Frenchman’s output.

This isn’t a fight I’m super confident forecasting, but I’ll side with Battle to get the nod from the judges for the more impactful offense.

Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle UFC Paris odds

The oddsmakers and the public are favoring the American fighter, listing Battle -172 and Jousset +140 via FanDuel.

Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle UFC Paris start time, how to watch

Jousset and Battle are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET (10:15 p.m. locally in Paris). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 243

William Gomis and Joanderson Brito both enter UFC Paris on winning streaks. Whose will come to an end?

[autotag]William Gomis[/autotag] and [autotag]Joanderson Brito[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 243 at Accor Arena in Paris. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 3-2
UFC main cards, 2024: 79-68-3

William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito UFC Paris preview

Gomis (13-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will look for a win in front of his hometown crowd to also keep his early UFC career perfect as he’s opened with three consecutive wins by majority decision, split decision, and most recently TKO. This will be his first fight of 2024. … Brito (17-3-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) has been on a tear since losing his UFC debut in January 2022 as he’ll enter on a five-fight winning streak.

William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito UFC Paris expert pick, prediction

I can understand why Gomis is on this card, but I have no clue why Brito isn’t getting booked against bigger names after accruing wins over the likes of Jack Shore and Diego Lopes.

Either the matchmakers hate or over-hype Gomis given their recent booking attempts, because I’m not seeing it regarding the MMA Factory product. Aside from Gomis’ lone stoppage victory in the UFC coming by way of a low blow, he hasn’t had any convincing performances in his first three swings at bat.

Whereas Brito – a walking destroyer of men – is riding an impressive 5-fighting winning streak by stopping everyone who has stood in his way.

The pick is for Brito to take Gomis down and smash him into submission in Round 1.

William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito UFC Paris odds

The oddsmakers and the public are favoring the Brazilian fighter, listing Brito -310 and Nelson +240 via FanDuel.

William Gomis vs. Jean Silva scrapped from UFC 301 in Brazil

UFC 301 has lost a preliminary card bout after one fighter’s scary pre-fight weigh-in.

In a bizarre circumstance, a fight has been scrapped from UFC 301 – after a fighter successfully made weight.

[autotag]William Gomis[/autotag] (13-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) struggled to make the walk to the scale Friday in Rio de Janeiro for his featherweight fight on the prelims against [autotag]Jean Silva[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC). Wearing a T-shirt and shorts, he got on the scale and was 143 pounds – a full 3 pounds under the non-title featherweight limit.

He needed to be helped off the scale and behind the stage, though, and it was reported that he vomited just prior to coming to the scale. His condition was deemed bad enough that the fight was canceled not long after the official weigh-ins.

MMA Junkie confirmed the news with a person with knowledge of the situation in Brazil. The UFC has not yet made a formal announcement after the news first was reported by French outlet LaSueur.

UFC 301 (Pay-per-view/ESPN/ESPN+) takes place Saturday at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Gomis has not lost since 2016. He has wins in his first three UFC fights, including a third-round body kick knockout of Yanis Ghemmouri this past September. He was supposed to return in February, but pulled out of a fight against Melsik Baghdasaryan, and now will miss another assignment.

It is not yet known if the UFC will try to keep the fight with Silva intact. Silva was set to fight in front of his home fans in Brazil for the first time in the UFC.
