The Lions sign OT Will Holden to active roster, bring OL Tommy Kraemer back to the practice squad

Kraemer was on the 53-man roster last week, and now he switches places with Holden on the practice squad

The personnel shuffling on the Detroit Lions offensive line continued on Thursday with a couple of moves.

The Lions signed tackle Will Holden to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. Holden joined the Lions a week ago in the wake of the injury to left tackle Taylor Decker. Now the fifth-year pro moves up to the 53-man roster to help deal with the injury crunch. He effectively replaces Tommy Kraemer on the active roster.

Kraemer was waived earlier this week, but the undrafted rookie from Notre Dame never left town. He’s back on the Lions practice squad after being inactive in Week 1. Kraemer’s ability to play guard or tackle provided some flexibility, and he’s still got the long-term potential to stick around the active roster the next time he’s signed up.

Colts waive OT Will Holden

Colts waive OT Will Holden.

The Indianapolis Colts waived offensive tackle Will Holden ahead of the roster-cut deadline on Tuesday, per Jim Ayello of The Indianapolis Star.

Holden signed with the Colts back in December off of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad and spent the offseason, training camp and preseason battling for the backup left tackle role. However, it seems the team is officially going with Julién Davenport with Holden waived and Sam Tevi on the injured reserve list.

The Colts will have to lean on Davenport until starter Eric Fisher returns from the reserve/COVID-19 list. After that, he will resume his rehab work from a torn Achilles.

There is a chance the Colts look to bring Holden back to the practice squad when the initial 53-man roster is set, especially given their lack of depth at the offensive tackle spot.

This may also give rookie seventh-round pick Will Fries a better chance to win a roster spot given his versatility on the offensive line.

If Holden clears waivers, he will be free to join any team as a free agent.

The Indianapolis Colts are preparing for a physical two days of joint training camp practices with the Carolina Panthers at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.

Though these practices won’t be the final evaluation for players, it will be a big chance for some to show some juice against live competition for the first time before the season arrives.

The Colts will host the Panthers for 4:00 p.m. practices on Thursday and Friday before their preseason opener at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

Here are seven Colts to watch during the joint training camp practices with the Panthers.

Colts rule out 3 players vs. Jaguars in Week 17

Colts rule out 3 players.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich ruled out three players on Friday ahead of the Week 17 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Among those ruled out include safety Khari Willis (concussion), cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (concussion) and offensive tackle Will Holden (ankle).

Neither of the three players were able to practice this week. Willis suffered his concussion during the Week 16 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The same goes for Holden while Ya-Sin emerged from the game fine but then presented with concussion symptoms and has been in the protocol all week.

Reich did say that defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday, will be good to go for the regular-season finale.

The Colts will reveal their final injury report with designations so we will get a better idea of the injury situations entering the weekend.

Colts sign OT Will Holden from Ravens practice squad

Colts add a tackle.

The Indianapolis Colts signed offensive tackle Will Holden to the active roster from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, the team announced Thursday.

With Le’Raven Clark on the injured reserve list and Anthony Castonzo still working through an MCL sprain, the Colts had to add another body to the offensive line.

Though Castonzo returned to practice for the first time on Thursday, there is still a chance he misses out on Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Even though Holden wasn’t one of the players the Colts worked out this week at the position, they are bringing him in provide some depth behind Castonzo and Chaz Green.

The hope is that Castonzo will be able to play on Sunday against the Raiders, but Holder will be joining the active roster just for depth purposes.

Ravens activate Mark Andrews, Matthew Judon, Will Holden off Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Baltimore Ravens got back two Pro Bowl players in Mark Andrews and Matthew Judon, activating the players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Baltimore Ravens are set to get back two more Pro Bowl players after activating tight end Mark Andrews, outside linebacker Matthew Judon, and offensive lineman Will Holden from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, per the team’s Twitter account.

While it’s unclear if Judon and Andrews will be able to play in Monday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, being activated so early gives hope. The Ravens saw the return of quarterback Lamar Jackson and fullback Patrick Ricard for Tuesday’s game despite being activated just one day prior. If Andrews and Judon are able to get some practice time in, it seems likely they’ll be able to suit up for this critical AFC North showdown on Monday night.

Baltimore was hit hard by an outbreak of COVID-19 over the last two weeks, putting 23 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list from the Monday following Week 11’s game against the Tennessee Titans all the way up to Week 12’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The coronavirus outbreak caused Week 12’s game against the Steelers to be rescheduled three times and Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys to be moved twice. The Ravens went 1-1 in those two games, putting up valiant efforts in both matchups despite missing so many impact players.

Ravens place 6 more players on Reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, including D.J. Fluker

The Ravens added six more players to the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, including D.J. Fluker, making the offensive line even thinner

The Baltimore Ravens have not had a single day without a player and/or staff member testing positive for COVID-19. That trend continued on Saturday, marking the sixth consecutive day of the Ravens’ COVID-19 outbreak growing. According to the team’s Twitter account, they’ve placed the following six players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list:

  • OLB Jaylon Ferguson
  • OL D.J. Fluker
  • OL Will Holden
  • DT Broderick Washington Jr.
  • CB Tavon Young
  • CB Khalil Dorsey

Baltimore placed four more players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, bringing the total to 14 total players on the list prior to these latest additions.

Though players like Dorsey and Young were on injured reserve already, negating some of the impact it’ll have on the team immediately, that’s not the case with everyone. With Fluker and Holden going on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, Baltimore is really thin along an offensive line that is already dealing with two starters on injured reserve.

The NFL has already postponed Baltimore’s Week 12 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers twice and moved its Week 13 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys as well. With the Ravens continuing to see people test positive for COVID-19, it creates some doubt about Tuesday’s game against the Steelers.

Players who test positive for COVID-19 are held out a minimum of 10 days per the NFL’s protocols. Those that are considered a close contact during the league’s contact tracing following a positive test are held out a minimum of five days. Since the Ravens have been battling this outbreak all week, there’s the potential some players added early in the week could be eligible to play Tuesday against Pittsburgh. However, positive tests would not only miss Tuesday’s game but potentially miss Week 13’s game against Dallas as well.

Ravens OL Will Holden tests positive for COVID-19 Friday

The Baltimore Ravens have had someone test positive for COVID-19 for the fifth consecutive day after another player tested positive Friday.

For the fifth consecutive day, the Baltimore Ravens have had someone test positive for COVID-19. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, offensive lineman Will Holden tested positive on Friday.

The Ravens officially have 14 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list already and are expected to add more in the coming days as the dust settles. With this additional positive test, 13 total players have either tested positive for COVID-19 themselves or were labeled a “close contact” this week alone. With the addition of cornerback Iman Marshall and quarterback Trace McSorley, who tested positive over the last two weeks, Baltimore will have 16 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

It’s unclear who the latest player to test positive is but Baltimore has already been hit hard on the starting lineup. Among those that have tested positive this week is defensive end Calais Campbell, running backs J.K. Dobbins and Mark Ingram, centers Matt Skura and Patrick Mekari, and quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The NFL has already pushed this game back, moving it from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. While the league hasn’t yet budged from the latest schedule, the Ravens continuing to have positive tests all week has to be putting some pressure on the NFL to find a backup plan. The Steelers canceled Friday’s practice as they await more information from the league and a decision about Sunday’s game. NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala said league officials are meeting later Friday to discuss the situation and that a decision could be coming in the coming days.

Ravens elevate WR Dez Bryant, 2 others from practice squad for Week 11

The Baltimore Ravens are going to see what wide receiver Dez Bryant can do for them against the Tennessee Titans in Week 11.

The Baltimore Ravens could use a little help in Week 11. They’re set to face off against the Tennessee Titans today and have looked to their practice squad for the necessary bodies to build the best gameday roster possible.

Per the transaction report, the Ravens have elevated wide receiver Dez Bryant, offensive lineman Will Holden, and tight end Luke Wilson.

This is the second time Baltimore has brought Bryant up from the practice squad for gameday. Per the NFL’s rules, players are eligible to be elevated from the practice squad just twice, meaning if the Ravens want to see Bryant on the field after this week, they’ll need to make room for him on the 53-man roster.

With the wide receivers struggling to get open and the passing offense stagnate because of it, there’s hope Bryant will be a bit of a savior as an outside possession receiver. Bryant was active in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts but played just two offensive snaps in that game, seeing no targets.

Wilson was just signed to the practice squad following Nick Boyle heading to injured reserve. It’s unclear just how big of a role he’ll have this week but with only Mark Andrews on the 53-man roster now and no other tight ends elevated from the practice squad for this game, it seems as though Wilson will play an integral part this week.
