Studs and duds for the Seahawks from the last game of 2023 season

Here’s our final studs and duds list for the season.

The Seahawks pulled off another dramatic come-from-behind win in the fourth quarter today, this time against the division rival Cardinals. Geno Smith’s late touchdown pass and two-point conversion to Tyler Lockett gave them a 21-20 win, with a little help from a miss by Matt Prater as time expired. While it wasn’t enough to make the playoffs, Seattle does end the 2023 season on a high note.

Here’s our final studs and duds list for the season.

First half highlights: Seahawks lead Cards 13-6

First half highlights: Seahawks lead Cards 13-6

The Seattle Seahawks are locked in another tough fight to close out the regular season finale. The Seahawks currently lead the Arizona Cardinals 13-6 in the Valley of the Sun.

Seattle took an early lead with their opening drive, following an Arizona punt. The offense did stall in the red zone, but they did manage to get a field goal out of it. The Cardinals answered with two possessions later with a field goal of their own, following this explosive run from quarterback Kyler Murray.

Thankfully, the Seahawks were able to answer immediately on their following drive, retaking the lead. Geno Smith found Will Dissly on a 19-yard touchdown strike to get in the end zone for the first time today. It was Dissly’s first score of the year.

The Seahawks were able to get points on the board with a field goal right before half to make it a full one-score game.

In other news, there is plenty of scoreboard watching from 12’s everywhere. Specifically one scoreboard: between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Seattle needs Chicago to pull off an upset to have a shot at the playoffs, and so far the Bears are giving the Packers a fight.

Green Bay leads 7-6 at half, but they blew a crucial opportunity for more points. The clock ran out on them thanks to a heads up play from a rookie defender.

The Seahawks will get the ball to start the second half. Be sure to follow @TheSeahawksWire on Twitter for live updates and highlights during the game.

Seahawks tight ends preaching patience, per Will Dissly

Seahawks tight ends preaching patience, per Will Dissly

The Seattle Seahawks’ offense has been incredibly frustrating as of late. What makes it especially frustrating is how deeply talented this unit is, and the fact said talent is being underutilized.

It is not just the receivers who are being underutilized – like rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba – but Seattle’s tight end group. I have long been an advocate for using Noah Fant more, but it is not just him. Between Fant, Will Dissly and Coly Parkinson, this position group has not been used to their full potential. As such, not one Seahawks tight end has caught a touchdown this season.

Let me repeat: not one Seahawks tight end has caught a touchdown this season.

As frustrating as that is, the good news is the Seattle tight ends seem to be handling it well. Dissly himself took to the media to explain the group is patient.

Simply put, the Seahawks need to get more creative on offense. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron needs to start figuring out how to incorporate his plethora of weapons and calling plays to get them far more involved.

DK Metcalf and Will Dissly fined by NFL for infractions from Week 6

Will Dissly’s fine was announced on Saturday afternoon, as well as another one for wide receiver DK Metcalf.

He’s an unrepentant thug and an eyesore for the Seahawks organization. We’re talking of course about veteran tight end Will Dissly, whose game is so devious that he’s been fined by the NFL for an unnecessary roughness penalty that wasn’t even flagged during last week’s loss to the Bengals.

Dissly’s fine was announced on Saturday afternoon, as well as another one for wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Dissly and Metcalf aren’t the only Seattle players who earned a fine last week, either. Strong safety Jamal Adams has been fined $50,000 by the league for another confrontation with a concussion official.

Apparently Adams berated the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant in Cincinnati and made physical contact as the doctor was evaluating wide receiver Jake Bobo for a concussion. Adams also got into it with the UNC who ruled him out for the Monday night game against the Giants after Adams was concussed just nine snaps in.

The Seahawks might just have a strong and deep edge rotation after all.

The Seahawks might just have a strong and deep edge rotation after all. Saturday night’s preseason win over the Cowboys featured several high-quality performances from the team’s young group of mostly unproven outside linebackers. Tyreke Smith, Boye Mafe and Derick Hall have been getting most of the attention. However, according to PFF, the best of them was undrafted rookie Levi Bell out of Texas State. He posted the highest player rating for Seattle this week, earning an 89.5 overall grade.

Ranking the top 25 tight ends in the NFL going into 2023

Today we’ll count down the top 25 tight ends.

Rankings season is in full swing with a month to go before the preseason starts. Here at Seahawks Wire we have been going through our own lists going into the 2023 season, beginning with a ranking of all 32 head coaches around the league. Then we ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks, followed by the league’s top 23 running backs and most-recently the NFL’s top 33 wide receivers. Today we’ll count down the top 25 tight ends.

For the Seahawks we cheated by combining the efforts of Will Dissly, Noah Fant and Colby Parkinson into a single ranking. Together, they combined for 109 catches, 1,157 yards and nine touchdowns last season. That was good enough to land them at No. 12 on our list.

Here is the full top 25.

Seahawks expect tight end Will Dissly to be ready to go by training camp

After suffering a rare injury to the bone on the outside of his knee, Seattle Seahawks TE Will Dissly should be ready to go by training camp.

Seattle Seahawks tight end Will Dissly suffered an unusual injury last year against the Kansas City Chiefs which cut his season short.

“He damaged a bone on the outside of his knee,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters this week from the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. “It’s really a rare injury that we haven’t seen before, so that’s why it took some time to figure out how he was going to return. It naturally seemed to heal well.”

Good news for the tight end, who very well could have been headed to the operating table if there had been a different outcome.

“He’s doing really well and making progress,” Carroll continued. “There was a time here when we were relooking to determine whether we need surgery or whether he would recover without it, and it seems that he’s able to do that, so that would be a real positive.”

Carroll even believes Dissly could be able to return in time for the start of training camp this summer.

“I think so,” Carroll said. “I think he will be, yeah.”
