Will Anderson Jr. to participate in some on-field work at combine

Alabama’s Will Anderson to participate in some NFL scouting combine workouts

After an incredible career with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Will Anderson Jr is doing all of the work necessary to get ready for the 2023 NFL draft. In just three years in Tuscaloosa, Anderson cemented himself as one of the best defensive players of the Saban era and was a part of the 2020 National Championship team.

There isn’t much Anderson can do to improve his expected draft position as he is widely regarded as a lock to be a top-five pick and the best defensive player. Especially when the EDGE position is such a special commodity in the NFL due to the importance of rushing the passer.

Even though his stock is soaring, Anderson announced that he will be doing some on-field work at the NFL combine this week. Anderson will be with the linebacker group that works out on Thursday and will likely go through the extensive interview process, but his athleticism and abilities on the field are already well-documented.

Aaron Lewis placed in elite company

Aaron Lewis has had an impressive season for Rutgers footballand recently received special recognition from PFF

So far, this season has been full of ups and downs for Rutgers football. However, one player who has been a bright spot is Aaron Lewis. The sophomore defensive lineman has 34 tackles and was placed in elite company by Pro Football Focus College.

According to the data and analytics company, Lewis is one of the only two edge rushers with an 80-plus pass and rush grade this season. Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr. was the only other player to receive a grade in that range.

While Lewis has seen his stock rise, he is in the midst of his best season at Rutgers. The Williamstown, N.J. native has a career-high 34 total tackles, including 16 solo tackles. He also has added one sack to his resume. His impressive play continued last weekend.

On Saturday, the Scarlet Knights faced the Golden Gophers in a Big Ten matchup that ended 31-0 in favor of the Golden Gophers. As the Rutgers defense struggled, Lewis had nine tackles, the fourth most on the team. He also had one for a loss.

With only four games left in the regular season, Lewis is preparing to put an impressive 2022 campaign in the books. He has never appeared in more than 12 games in a season but is poised to break that mark, assuming he stays healthy. Over the last few months, he has created excitement for what 2023 will bring.

LOOK: Tennessee OL trash talks Alabama’s Will Anderson via social media

A current Tennessee OL had some words to say about Alabama LB Will Anderson via Instagram on Monday.

After the Tennessee Volunteers defeated Alabama for the first time in 15 years, one player took to social media to speak out. Tennessee offensive tackle Gerald Mincey responded to a post on Instagram regarding Will Anderson and the Crimson Tide playing with anxiety.

“Naw fam you (Will Anderson) just suck..,” he said.

Those are strong words pointed toward a potential first-overall pick. Although Anderson didn’t play particularly well in the Week 7 loss, it doesn’t change the fact that he will likely be a top-five pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Mincey and the Volunteers’ offensive line were able to minimize the Alabama pass rush. Alabama’s defense was only able to get one sack on Hendon Hooker. It will be interesting to see if the two meet again for the SEC Championship in Atlanta. For that to happen, both teams will likely have to win out.

If the two are able to collide with the College Football Playoff on the line, it would be interesting to see the matchup between Anderson and Mincey.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to provide the latest Alabama football news.

Key Lawrence added to the Lott IMPACT Trophy 2022 watch list

After a tremendous finish to the 2021 season, Oklahoma safety Key Lawrence is primed for a big 2022 and was placed on the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch list.

Key Lawrence had a bit of a slow start to his career for the Oklahoma Sooners, but when he began to see the field regularly due to injuries, the Sooners couldn’t take him off the field. He spent time at cornerback and safety and was an important piece to the Sooners secondary down the stretch.

With [autotag]Delarrin Turner-Yell[/autotag] off to the NFL and [autotag]Patrick Fields[/autotag] to Stanford, Lawrence figures to be in for a key role in Brent Venables’ defense. With a starter’s complement of snaps, the sky’s the limit for the Tennessee product.

In anticipation of what will likely be a big season for Lawrence, he’s been named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy 2022 watch list.

Named after former NFL Hall of Fame star Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy annually goes to the Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year, a player who has had the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field.  IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity, all characteristics exhibited by Lott during his illustrious playing career.

Lawrence is one of 42 players the voting panel will be keeping their eye on heading into 2022 and one of 14 defensive backs.

Other nominees for the award include [autotag]Will Anderson Jr[/autotag]. of Alabama. Anderson finished fifth in the Heisman voting in 2021. Lawrence joins [autotag]Felix Anudike-Uzomah[/autotag] as the only players from the Big 12 to be considered on the preseason watch list.

In 2021, Lawrence registered 47 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and three forced fumbles while playing just the 10th-most snaps on the team last season.
