Date and time set for wild-card game between Seahawks and Eagles

The Seattle Seahawks will take on the NFC East champion Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday, January 5 at 1:40 p.m. PT in a wildcard battle.

The Seattle Seahawks lost a heartbreaker to their NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, 26-21, after a last second pass from Russell Wilson to Jacob Hollister fell just short of the end zone.

The loss not only cost Seattle the NFC West title, it also dropped them to the No. 5 seed and into a wildcard battle on the road against the No. 4 seeded Eagles of Philadelphia, who finished the season with a 9-7 record.

The game will be played at 1:40 p.m. PT on Sunday, January 5.

Seattle already played in Philadelphia this season, defeating them 19-7 in Week 12, but both teams have dealt with serious injuries since then, making this a very different matchup – even though we are barely six weeks removed from the last contest.

The Seahawks are 3-12 all-time in road playoff games, and they have struggled the second time playing opponents in the last two seasons, so Sunday’s battle could be a tricky one for a Seattle squad that struggled on both sides of the ball in the final two games of the 2019 regular season.

Bills to face Texans in Wild Card

The Buffalo Bills now know their opponent for their next game and it’s the Houston Texans.

The Buffalo Bills now know their opponent for their next game and it’s the Houston Texans.

At the same time the Bills’ backups were wrapping up a 13-6 loss to the New York Jets in Week 17, the Kansas City Chiefs were busy beating the Los Angeles Chargers, 31-21.

Because of that outcome, the Bills will travel to Houston next weekend in their Wild Card game.

Per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the game is “expected” to be played on Saturday afternoon. However, the NFL has yet to officially announce it.

The Texans are facing the Tennessee Titans in Week 17 at 4:30 p.m. and have yet to conclude their regular season.

PODCAST: Bills turn attention to Wild Card weekend post-Patriots loss

Buffalo Bills podcast following 24-17 loss to New England Patriots.

The Bills couldn’t get the job done against the New England Patriots. Poor execution on the offensive side, with an inability to extend drives, led to exhaustion and sloppy play on the defensive side of the ball. The Patriots experienced one of their better games of this back half of the season against Buffalo on both sides of the ball.

For the Bills, it’s not the end of the world, fortunately. While the idea that they were in the race for a home playoff game in Week 16 was enticing, they’re still in the postseason, and they still have a shot. The only ways that Buffalo would see the Patriots again is one of two situations.

First, both the Bills and whoever is the sixth seed win. Lowest remaining seed goes on to face Baltimore, and Buffalo would end up facing New England in the divisional round. Secondly, if both Buffalo or New England win out, and they meet in the AFC Championship.

That all sounds good and well, but one game at a time has to be the mentality, and right now, despite a meaningless Week 17 game against the Jets, Buffalo is slated to face either Houston or Kansas City come Wild Card Weekend.

Billswire podcast host ost Matt Johnson recaps the Bills-Patriots game and looks ahead to Wild Card weekend:

In a defensive outing between both teams, the Buffalo Bills offense did just enough to put them over the edge of victory to send them back to the post season for the second time in three years. It was a testament to coaching, discipline, and a winning culture that Sean McDermott has established in Buffalo.

The Bills sit at 10-4, are officially in, and could very easily loosen up a bit, but there is still another opportunity at stake, and that is to win the AFC East title for the first time in over 20 years. The chances are slim, but it is still a very reasonable feat, as they head to Foxborough to play the New England Patriots next Saturday. The Bills need to win out, and the Patriots need to lose not only to the Bills, but the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 as well.

Buffalo and Pittsburgh brought their hard nosed defenses to the table last night for Sunday Night Football, and both teams excelled in stopping drives, forcing punts and turnovers, and keeping the game close for their offenses. It was the Bills, fortunately, that made it all happen, behind Josh Allen, John Brown, and even tight end Tyler Kroft.

It was a great win for a team, in the national spotlight, that proved many doubters wrong in the process.

Podcast host Matt Johnson recaps the big Week 15 win, and a look ahead.

Seahawks clinch playoff spot, take lead in NFC West over 49ers

After Week 15, the Seattle Seahawks have officially clinched a playoff spot and re-taken the lead in the NFC West over the rival 49ers.

The Seattle Seahawks have officially clinched a spot in this year’s playoffs. Seattle not only beat the Panthers in Carolina, but the Cowboys took care of the Los Angeles Rams to seal the deal for the Seahawks.

There were four possible scenarios that could have occurred on Sunday for Seattle to have secured a spot.

  1. SEA win + LAR loss or tie OR
  2. SEA win + MIN loss OR
  3. SEA win + GB loss + MIN tie OR
  4. SEA tie + LAR loss

The Vikings beat the Chargers 39-10 and the Packers won out over the Bears to the tune of 21-13. In the end, it was the Cowboys who did Seattle the favor, ultimately prevailing over the Rams 44-21.

In addition to a guaranteed spot in the postseason, the Seahawks have also taken over control of the NFC West. The 49ers lost to the Falcons, who pulled out a miracle in the final seconds of the afternoon game.

With the Seahawks and 49ers now both at 11-3 on the season, Seattle has the tiebreaker having beaten San Francisco Week 10. It looks like Week 17 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting games of the year at CenturyLink Field.

Seattle faces Arizona next Sunday before the all-important 49ers matchup on Dec. 29.

Can the Broncos still make the playoffs?

The Broncos can still make the playoffs this season. Here’s how.

Despite starting the season with a 3-8 record, the Broncos still mathematically still have a chance to reach the 2019 NFL playoffs. Denver will need a lot of help from other teams, though.

Here’s what needs to happen, according to The Denver Post:

  • Broncos need to win out, finish 8-8 (possible).
  • Texans-Titans can’t end in a tie (probably won’t).
  • Loser of Texans-Titans must lose out (unlikely).
  • Steelers must lose out (unlikely).
  • Browns must lose at least one game (probable).
  • Colts must lose at least two games (possible).

The chances of all of that happening? Less than 1%, according to The New York Times. If those scenarios do happen, Denver would sneak into the playoffs as the AFC’s No. 6 seed with an 8-8 record.

As it stands now, that would give the Broncos a Wild Card meeting against the Chiefs. If Denver won that game, they would go on to face the Ravens in the Divisional round. If they won in Baltimore, the Broncos would then advance to the AFC Championship.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Denver needs to win on Sunday — and then get a lot of help — to stay in the playoff race.

Baltimore is coming off a tough matchup with San Francisco last Sunday with a 20-17 win at home while Buffalo went on the road to Dallas and knocked off the Cowboys 26-15. The real question is will the Buffalo Bills be one of the first teams to stop Lamar and the troops. We all know that the Ravens are going to run the ball and while averaging at least five yards per carry there is no reason why they wouldn’t continue the ground and pound running style.
The Buffalo Bills defense is not one to overlook and will look to stop Lamar and the Ravens with their potent offense. Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano will be ready to shadow Lamar and hope to show the world who the Buffalo Bills are.

Prediction: Analyst Ryan Brandenburger thinks the game will be close but isn’t sure that Buffalo’s defense can stop Lamar Jackson. If the Bills defense stops the Ravens the first few possessions then the Bills have a shot. Take the under 44 and the Ravens will cover the -6 spread in this contest with a 27-20 victory.
