Seahawks have no limitations on wide receiver Josh Gordon

Although new to the squad, veteran wide receiver Josh Gordon will continue to factor into the Seattle Seahawks game plan.

The Seahawks recently added to their wide receiver corps when they claimed former New England Patriot Josh Gordon off waivers. Seattle didn’t waste any time putting Gordon to the test.

Active against the 49ers in Week 10, Gordon played 23 of Seattle’s 73 offensive snaps. While he only logged two receptions for 27 total yards, both catches were clutch for the Seahawks, each coming on critical third downs.

Gordon might not yet have a full grasp of the playbook, but coach Pete Carroll won’t hesitate to turn him loose when needed.

“I don’t think anything is going to hold him back in terms of his learning,” Carroll said Monday. “He has no problem at all. He did fine in the game and if we keep moving forward with it. I don’t think we would load him up to play every play or anything like that, we would still use our rotations and all – but he has no limitations.”

Seattle hopes Gordon will prove to be an extra weapon for Russell Wilson in the passing game as the team continues its run for the playoffs.

Gordon and the rest of the squad resume practice Wednesday as they prepare to face the Eagles in Week 12.

Deshaun Watson: Texans WR Keke Coutee is going to ‘help us out as we make this run’

Houston Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee is going to help the team out in their playoff run, says quarterback Deshaun Watson.

[jwplayer wumZ56w5-ThvAeFxT]

After a two-week hiatus as a healthy scratch, Keke Coutee found his way back to the Houston Texans’ lineup in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Red Raider played 72% (44) of offensive snaps in Week 11, recording three catches for 25 yards.

While coaches haven’t explained directly why Coutee did not play in Weeks 8 and 9, they did allude to a lack of attention to detail as a reason being his removal from the offense.

Coutee’s quarterback, Deshaun Watson, is elated for the return of the second-year wide receiver.

“It’s always good to get Keke back out there and get his confidence up,” said Watson on Tuesday. “He’s a great help for this team, he’s a great football player, great teammate, just a great person, a brother.”

In theory, Coutee is supposed to be the quarterback’s slot sidekick. Though he briefly fell out of favor at the position, there remains hope that he can develop into a reliable, speedy weapon in Houston’s offense.

“You just kind of make sure that he’s staying along, staying encouraged and that’s what we’ve been doing,” continued Watson. “He’s definitely going to help us out as we make this run.”

Coutee has 16 receptions for 179 yards in seven games for the Texans in 2019. In 2018, he recorded 28 for 287 yards and a touchdown. His specialist, as a rookie, was dicing up the Indianapolis Colts.

In two games against the Colts in 2018 (including playoffs), Coutee recorded 22 receptions for 219 yards and a touchdown. His momentum against the Colts took a halting stop in Week 7 when he dropped a pass; resulting in a game-losing interception.

On Thursday, Coutee will get an opportunity for redemption. The Texans host the Colts on the short week. With a job within Houston’s offense in his name, Coutee can either prove he is the “Colt Killer” or that his success against them in 2018 was a fluke.

WATCH: Tyreek Hill to have MRI on right hamstring after MNF injury

Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is set to have an MRI on his right hamstring “in the next day or so,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is set to have an MRI on his right hamstring “in the next day or so,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

Hill suffered a hamstring injury on the last play of the first drive of Kansas City’s 24-17 win against the Chargers Monday night at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The 25-year-old left the field and was worked on by the medical staff on the sideline before heading to the locker room. Hill returned to the sideline but never re-entered the game Monday.

Hill missed four games this season (Week 2 through Week 5) with a sternum injury. He averages 16.5 yards per catch on 33 receptions for 543 yards in seven games this season. Hill has scored 5 touchdowns this year.

The Chiefs (7-4) lead the AFC West and are now in their bye week for Week 12.

Seahawks planning on Tyler Lockett playing Sunday against Eagles

After recovering from a leg contusion over the bye week, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett could be ready to face the Eagles.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett left the Monday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers with a leg contusion and was unable to fly home with the team after the win.

Lockett spent two nights in a Bay Area hospital for evaluation before returning to Seattle.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided an update on Lockett’s status during his press conference Monday afternoon.

“They took great care of him and all that,” Carroll explained. “Everything worked out fine. Now, he’s just on the road back. We’re optimistic about it, but he’s still going to have to do it. The extra days absolutely are helping us here, so we’ll take full advantage of that.”

The Seahawks, who just resumed practice after their bye week, were able to enjoy some much needed time to relax and recover. The additional days off could mean Lockett won’t have to miss a game due to his injury.

“He’s doing better, he’s doing better,” Carroll said. “We’ll know later in the week his status. We’re hoping and planning on him being able to play, but yet, he has to show it to us. So, we’ll see.”

Seattle has an off day Tuesday before returning to the practice field on Wednesday to prep to face the Eagles on the road.

Kenny Stills: Texans need to move on from 41-7 loss to Ravens

After losing 41-7 to the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans wide receiver Kenny Stills says the team needs to be professional and move on.

The Houston Texans disappointed on Sunday. By losing 41-7 to the Baltimore Ravens, they watched their winning streak, top AFC South ranking and excitement vanish.

However, dwelling on the blowout loss won’t help anything. The Texans have to face the rival Indianapolis Colts on Thursday. As wide receiver Kenny Stills said, the team needs to move on.

“It is tough, but we are all professionals,” said Stills on Sunday. “At the end of the day, we have to continue to go out and do our job. Keep trying to execute. We have to put this one behind us and get ready for Thursday night.”

Stills recorded four receptions for 27 yards on Sunday. He, like the entirety of the team, did not perform as expected. The best way to rebound? Execute and put all their focus on beating the Colts.

Stills knows that. The question is, do the rest of the Texans?

49ers CB Richard Sherman fined for hit on Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett

Although no flag was thrown, 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has been fined for his hit on Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett Week 10.

The Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious against the San Franciso 49ers and former teammate Richard Sherman last Monday night in Santa Clara.

The NFC West matchup came down to the wire in overtime, when Seahawks kicker Jason Myers was finally able to seal the deal with the game-winning field goal at the buzzer.

Good sportsmanship prevailed as Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and Sherman exchanged jerseys on the field after the contest.

On Saturday, however, the NFL announced Sherman has been fined for his hit on Seahawks wide receiver, Tyler Lockett.

“49ers CB Richard Sherman was fined $28,075 for unnecessary roughness for lowering his head to initiate contact on his big hit of Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett in the second quarter,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted. “No flag was thrown.”

Here’s a closer look at the play in question – you be the judge.

The Seahawks have a bye this weekend but reconvene Monday for a bonus practice ahead of the Eagles Week 12.

Texans WR Keke Coutee has good week of practice before Ravens matchup

Heading into their Week 11 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee had a good week of practice.

Keke Coutee may be clawing his way out of the dog house. After a good week of practice, the Houston Texans wide receiver may not be a healthy scratch in his third straight week.

“He did a good job. Yeah, he did a good job,” said coach Bill O’Brien on Friday on Coutee’s practice, “it was a good week.”

Before Houston’s Week 10 bye, coaches alluded to Coutee’s lack of attention to detail being a catalyst for his recent inactive status. Since dropping a critical pass in a Week 7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the second-year slot specialist has not played a snap.

Coutee has recorded 13 receptions for 154 yards on the year. In 2018, as a rookie, he amassed 28 catches for 287 yards and a touchdown.

The Texans’ coaching staff has not indicated whether or not Coutee will play on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. However, with a good week of practice behind him, his chances of doing so are rising.

Broncos make 2 roster moves

The Broncos activated wide receiver Tim Patrick (hand) to the 53-man roster and placed cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot) on injured reserve.

The Denver Broncos will activate wide receiver Tim Patrick (hand) from injured reserve to the 53-man roster, coach Vic Fangio announced Friday. Patrick is now eligible to play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

To make room for Patrick on the active roster, Denver will place cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season. It’s been a dissapointing year for Callahan, who hasn’t been able to fully recover from a foot injury that he suffered while playing for the Chicago Bears in 2018.

Callahan (5-9, 188 pounds) signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Broncos in March but didn’t play in any games season. If he is able to get healthy this offseason, the 28-year-old cornerback could still emerge as one of the team’s top cornerbacks in 2020. Callahan has totaled 123 tackles, four sacks and four interceptions since 2015.

Patrick (6-5, 212 pounds) broke his hand in Week 1 and missed the last eight games while on IR. It’s safe to say quarterback Brandon Allen is excited about the wide receiver’s return to the 53-man roster.

“He’s great,” Allen said Wednesday. “In the short time I’ve been with him he’s been great, obviously knows the offense. He’s been here and he’s a big, physical target. Any time you have two of those guys like Courtland [Sutton] and him it’s going to be a mismatch for a lot of defenses, and I think he’ll bring another element to our offense.”

Sutton (6-3, 218 pounds) is also excited about Patrick’s return.

“It’s exciting to have him back because he does so much,” Sutton said Wednesday. “He can run plays from the slot because he’s shifty. He can go make the big play on the sideline because he’s a big guy. He’s fast and he’s smart.

“Everything that you want out of receiver — [including] his size — he does it and he does it really, really well. It’s exciting to have him come back and I know everyone on our team is excited to have him back if he comes back this week.”

Denver’s 53-man roster and 10-man practice squad are now both full.
