Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (8-28) and Tampa Bay Rays (19-18) wrap up a 3-game series Wednesday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: White Sox lead 3-2

The White Sox suffered a 5-1 loss Tuesday as the Under (7.5) cashed. Chicago has been outscored 13-3 in the 1st 2 games of this series after a surprising 3-game sweep of the Rays at U.S. Cellular Field from April 26-28.

The Rays are back over .500 for the 1st time since April 21 when they were 12-11. Tampa Bay has won a season-high 5 straight games. Its previous high was a 3-game win streak from April 9-12. The Over is 9-5-1 in the past 15 games for the Rays, while going 10-4 in the past 14 outings at Tropicana Field.

White Sox at Rays projected starters

RHP Chris Flexen vs. RHP Aaron Civale

Flexen (1-3, 4.85 ERA) makes his 6th start and 8th appearance. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 5.2 K/9 in 29 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 H (1 HR), 2 BB, 4 K in 10-5 home loss vs. Minnesota Twins last Wednesday
  • 2024 road splits: 0-1, 2.84 ERA, 12 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 8 H (2 HR), 3 BB, 8 K with .182 opponents’ batting average (OBA) and 0.87 WHIP in 4 starts
  • 2024 vs. Rays: Win, 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 K in 9-4 home win on April 26

Civale (2-2, 6.14 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 in 36 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 7 ER, 6 H (1 HR), 1 BB, 5 K in 10-8 home win vs. New York Mets Friday
  • 2024 home splits: 1-1, 4.76 ERA, 22 2/3 IP, 12 ER, 19 H (5 HR), 4 BB, 27 K with .226 OBA and 1.01 WHIP in 4 starts
  • 2024 vs. White Sox: No-decision, 4 1/3 IP, 6 ER, 8 H (1 HR), 0 BB, 3 K in 8-7 road loss in 10 innings on April 27

White Sox at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

White Sox 5, Rays 4

Moneyline

The WHITE SOX (+180) are a tempting play for the chance to nearly double up.

Flexen has already beaten Tampa Bay once this season. In fact, it’s the only team he has posted a win against. Meanwhile, Civale has really struggled for the Rays (-225), and there is no way you can consider backing Tampa Bay. He has allowed 5 or more runs in each of his past 3 games, and a total of 22 hits and 6 walks in the span.

The ChiSox already got him once, and confidence is low that he’ll suddenly piece things together.

Run line/Against the spread

If you’re a little more on the conservative side, and you cannot play Chicago straight up, consider the WHITE SOX +1.5 (-110) on the run line instead.

While Chicago is 0-2 on the run line as an underdog in this series, they’re a respectable 7-4 in the past 11 as a ‘dog, with 5 outright wins, including 3 against Tampa Bay, with one of those games started by Flexen.

Over/Under

OVER 8 (-115) is worth playing lightly in the series finale.

The Over holds a 4-3 edge in the past 7 games for the White Sox, while going 11-6 in the 17 games since April 20. Chicago pitching has allowed 5 or more runs in 3 of the past 4 games, and 4 or more runs in 14 of the previous 18 contests.

The Over is 4-2-1 in the past 7 games for Tampa Bay, while cashing at a 10-4 clip in the past 14 under the dome at Tropicana Field.

Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (8-26) and Tampa Bay Rays (17-18) open a 3-game series Monday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: White Sox lead 3-0

The White Sox took 2 of 3 games on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals, outscoring the NL side by an 11-9 margin. The Under cashed at a 2-1 pace.

Chicago posted a 3-game sweep of Tampa Bay from April 26-28 at U.S. Cellular Field, with the Over going 2-1 in the series. The White Sox have won 2 in a row on the road after losing 9 in a row away from home from April 10-May 3.

The Rays posted a 3-game sweep against the New York Mets over the weekend under the dome, outscoring the Mets 20-15, with the Over going 2-1. Tampa Bay has won 4 in a row on its home field.

White Sox at Rays projected starters

RHP Mike Soroka vs. RHP Tyler Alexander

Soroka (0-3, 6.48 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.62 WHIP, 5.1 BB/9 and 4.3 K/9 in 33 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 14 K in 2-1 home loss vs. St. Louis Cardinals last Tuesday
  • 2024 road splits: 0-2, 6.05 ERA, 19 1/3 IP, 13 ER, 20 H (5 HR), 8 BB, 9 K with .267 opponents’ batting average (OBA) and 1.45 WHIP in 4 starts

Alexander (1-1, 5.02 ERA) makes his 4th start and 7th appearance. He has a 1.40 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 in 28 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 8-2 road win vs. Milwaukee Brewers last Tuesday
  • 2024 home splits: 1-0, 5.40 ERA, 15 IP, 9 ER, 15 H (3 HR), 4 BB, 12 K with .254 OBA and 1.27 WHIP in 0 starts and 3 relief appearances

White Sox at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 6, White Sox 3

Moneyline

The Rays (-185) are a little too expensive to play in the series opener on Monday night, costing nearly 2 times your potential return. Even with Tampa Bay getting the White Sox (+150) on their home field with revenge on its mind, AVOID.

Chicago has just 8 wins in 34 tries, but 3 of those victories came in 3 outings against Tampa Bay on the South Side of Chicago. It was a shocking 3-game sweep, the only one for Chicago, and just the 2nd series win of the season, and only one against an American League opponent.

Run line/Against the spread

If you’re little more adventurous, consider the RAYS -1.5 (+115) on the run line.

This wager takes a little bit of a leap of faith, as the White Sox +1.5 (-140) swept the Rays April 26-28. However, Chicago is a bad team, and it is just 3-14 on the road with an MLB-worst minus-82 run differential. Roll with the Rays.

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 (+100) is a solid play at even-money.

The White Sox allowed just 9 total runs in the 3-game interleague series win in St. Louis over the weekend, cashing the Under in 2 of the past 3 games. The Under has a 4-3 edge in the past 7 outings, too. However, the Over is 6-3 in the past 9 games on the road for the Pale Hose.

The Over-Under is 3-3-1 in the past 7 games for the Rays, but the Over is 9-3 in the past 12 games at home for Tampa Bay.

Season series: Rays lead 2-0

The White Sox lost 4-3 to the Rays on Saturday, their 3rd consecutive loss. Chicago has only won 2 of its last 10 games and has lost 6 straight series.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

White Sox at Rays projected starters

RHP Lucas Giolito vs. RHP Zach Eflin

Giolito (1-1, 4.29 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 in 21 IP.

  • 1 start vs. Rays last year: 6 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K and the W in 6-5 Sox win in Tampa on June 5
  • Allowed no hits through 6 IP with 1 BB and 7 K in last start on Tuesday vs. the Philadelphia Phillies

Eflin (2-0, 3.27 ERA) makes his 3rd start. He has a 1.18 WHIP, 0.8 BB/9 and 9.8 K/9 through 11 IP.

  • First start since serving a 15-day stint on the injured list due to lower back tightness
  • Has allowed a combined 4 ER, 12 H, 1 BB, 12 K in 11 IP in his 1st 2 starts

White Sox at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 6, White Sox 3

Moneyline

With how these teams are performing recently, I’ll side with the RAYS (-150) to get the win at home and complete the series sweep. Tampa Bay is perfect  at home (12-0) while Chicago is 4-8 on the road.

Run line/Against the spread

RAYS -1.5 (+140) has solid value with Tampa Bay looking to get its 5th straight victory. The Rays should be able to get to Giolito and even if Eflin is limited in his 1st start off the IL, Tampa Bay’s bullpen is capable of holding down the fort.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 (-115) is the pick in this matchup despite Giolito’s most recent performance and Eflin’s early-season success. The Over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in Tampa Bay and 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings overall.

Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago White Sox (7-13) play the 2nd contest in a 3-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (17-3) Saturday. First pitch at Tropicana Field is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rays lead 1-0; White Sox won the regular-season series 4-2 in 2022.

The Rays picked up a wild 8-7 win over the White Sox Friday, their 3rd consecutive win. Tampa Bay has scored 8 or more runs in 3 in a row, and 4 of the past 5 outings. It leads MLB with 7.05 runs per game this season, a .905 OPS and 45 home runs. The Rays also lead the majors with a 2.80 ERA and are 2nd with a 1.10 team WHIP.

The White Sox have dropped 4 of the past 5 games overall. Their offense hasn’t been the issue, as they’ve averaged 4.5 runs per game across the past 6 games overall. However, the pitching staff has yielded 5 or more runs in 6 of the previous 7 outings.

The Chicago pitching staff has been horrendous to date, ranking 29th in the majors in both ERA (5.61) and WHIP (1.58).

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

White Sox at Rays projected starters

RHP Dylan Cease vs. LHP Shane McClanahan

Cease (2-0, 2.01 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.08 WHIP, 4.8 BB/9 and 11.7 K/9 through 22 1/3 IP.

  • Has posted a 1-0 record, 1.59 ERA and .119 opponent batting average (OBA) with 2 BB and 16 K across 11 1/3 IP in 2 road outings
  • Went 1-0 with a 0.87 ERA with 13 K and a .121 OBA across 10 1/3 IP in 2 starts vs. Tampa Bay in 2022

McClanahan (4-0, 1.57 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 through 23 IP.

  • Is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA with 15 K and a .158 OBA in 11 IP across 2 home starts
  • Enjoys daytime starts, going 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA and .203 OBA across 3 day outings this season

White Sox at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 3, White Sox 2

Moneyline

The Rays (-190) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s just a little bit over my personal limit for a singular moneyline play. Even if you tossed Tampa Bay into a multi-team parlay, it would suck all of the value from your ticket.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

The WHITE SOX +1.5 (-135) aren’t priced out of line if you’d like a little bit of insurance on the visitors.

Chicago covered the run line in Friday’s opener despite not winning, and it is a respectable 5-4 on the run line as an underdog in the past 9 games. The White Sox have their most effective and consistent pitcher going, making them worth the play. McClanahan has been equally effective for Tampa, so expect a close, low-scoring affair.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 7 (-105) is a strong play in the dome Saturday.

The Under is 3-1-1 in the past 5 games on the road, despite Friday’s over result. The Under is also 9-3 in the past 12 games against the AL Central for the Rays.

While all of that is well and good, it’s the pitching matchup of Cease and McClanahan which will keep the scores down.

Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago White Sox (7-12) and Tampa Bay Rays (16-3) open a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Tropicana Field is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: first meeting; the White Sox won the 2022 series 4-2.

Chicago lost 5-2 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies as a +104 home underdog Wednesday. The White Sox split a doubleheader on Tuesday en route to losing that series 2-1 and finishing a 6-game homestand with just 2 wins. Chicago leads the league with 190 strikeouts.

Tampa has been the hottest team in the MLB to start the season, including a 13-0 start that tied a modern-1900 record. The Rays won 8-0 as -252 home favorites Wednesday vs. the Cincinnati Reds. They also held the Reds off the board in a 10-0 victory Tuesday and won the series 2-1.

Tampa Bay ranks 1st in the league in batting average (.288), wins (16), home runs (42), ERA (2.57) and RBIs (130).

White Sox at Rays projected starters

RHP Michael Kopech vs. RHP Calvin Faucher

Kopech (0-2, 6.32 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.66 WHIP, 5.7 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 through 15 2/3 IP.

  • Allowed 1 R (0 ER) on 1 H and 2 BB with 5 K across 5 IP in a 3-2 win vs. Tampa on Apr. 16 last season
  • Went 3-4 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 49 K and 27 BB in 12 away starts in 2022

Faucher (0-0, 4.15 ERA) makes his 2nd start and 6th appearance. He has a 1.27 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 through 8 2/3 IP.

  • Allowed 0 earned runs on 2 hits and 0 walks with 0 strikeouts in a 1-inning relief appearance vs. Chicago on June 3 last year

White Sox at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 8, White Sox 4

Moneyline

BET RAYS (-160).

Tampa has been the best team in baseball and while their recent stretch of games hasn’t been as hot as their opening stretch, they are still the safer bet here. Tampa has big, consistent bats with a solid bullpen behind Faucher and they still have yet to lose at home.

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN RAYS -1.5 (+125).

Only 1 of the Rays’ 16 wins has been within 1 run, showing that when they win they usually do so by a comfortable margin. There is no reason to expect that to change here. The Rays won 2 of the last 4 meetings with the White Sox last year, but both were by at least 3 runs.

Figure out how much overall you want to wager on Tampa Bay — I suggest no more than 1½ units — and divvy it up between the moneyline and the run line plays with at least 1 full unit on the ML.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 8.5 (-115).

The Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Tampa Bay and 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall. The Over is also 5-0-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 6 games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400.

Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Chicago White Sox (72-52) and Tampa Bay Rays (76-48) play the finale of a three-game set Sunday at Tropicana Field with a 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze the lines around the White Sox vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

White Sox RHP Reynaldo Lopez (2-0, 1.08 ERA) makes his fourth start and 12th appearance. He has a 0.72 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 through 25 IP.

  • Allowed just 1 hit and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts across 5 scoreless innings in a win over the Oakland Athletics Tuesday.
  • Has posted a 1-0 record and a stellar 0.64 ERA with just 1 earned run and 6 hits allowed across 14 innings over two starts and three relief appearances in August.

Rays RHP Chris Archer (0-1, 6.23 ERA) makes his second start and his thirrd appearance. He has allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts through 4 1/3 innings.

  • Will be making his first appearance since April 10 after missing considerable time due to right lateral forearm tightness.
  • Allowed 3 earned runs, 1 hit and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts across 4 2/3 innings in his final minor-league rehab tune-up with Triple-A Durham against Jacksonville Tuesday.

Prediction

White Sox 5, Rays 2

Money line (ML)

The WHITE SOX (+100) came up short in Saturday’s middle game, but they’ll bounce back in the finale. Bettors who backed them yesterday have to have a short memory.

The Rays will struggle to make things happen against Lopez, who has been unflappable, and the long layoff might mean rust for Archer, who wasn’t terribly sharp in his final rehab outing. Facing the first-place ChiSox is a tough first game back.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Take WHITE SOX +1.5 (-205) if you want/need some insurance, although it’s a little too pricey for my tastes. I prefer them straight up against Archer, who isn’t likely to get very deep into the game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The best play on the board is UNDER 8.5 (+110) at plus-money.

The Over cashed in each of the first two games in this series with a combined total of 12 runs in each game. So, playing Under requires a leap of faith.

However, I don’t think the Rays get much off of Lopez. The concern is Archer, and his ability to throw strikes. He isn’t likely to go deep into the game after a lengthy layoff, and that’s a good thing. Tampa boasts the second-best bullpen ERA in the majors at 3.11.

White Sox LHP Dallas Keuchel (8-6, 4.48 ERA) makes his 24th start and 25th appearance. He has a 1.33 WHIP, 5.4 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 through 130 2/3 IP.

  • Won his most recent outing Monday against Oakland snapping a five-start winless skid which saw him go 0-3 from July 20-Aug. 10.

Prediction

White Sox 4, Rays 3

Money line (ML)

The play is the WHITE SOX (+115) as short road ‘dogs as the difference is on the mound. Keuchel dominated the Rays in his previous appearance this season while Patino has had trouble going deep into games, although he has been solid at home.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The best play is WHITE SOX +1.5 (-180) if you would like a little insurance and aren’t quite feeling the AL Central leaders on the road. While I prefer Chicago straight up this isn’t out of line if you’d like to take the run and a half.

Over/Under (O/U)

Roll with UNDER 9.5 (-130) as Patino has been strong at Tropicana Field this season.

While the Over connected in Friday’s game, the Under is 3-1-2 across the last six for the Pale Hose and 8-4-2 in their last 14 on the road.

The Over is a solid 4-0-1 in the last five for the Rays as a home favorite. However, the Under is 9-5 in their last 14 at home against teams with a winning overall mark.
