BREAKING: LSU flips five-star offensive tackle Weston Davis from Texas A&M

Weston Davis committed to the Aggies over the Tigers in June, but LSU won out in the end.

LSU pulled off a major recruiting coup on Thursday night, flipping five-star offensive tackle [autotag]Weston Davis[/autotag] from Texas A&M.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Beaumont (Tex.) United product committed to the Aggies over the Tigers on June 26 following an official visit to Baton Rouge, but coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] landed him in the end.

Davis ranks as a four-star prospect according to both the On3 and 247Sports industry rankings, but On3 itself ranks him as a five-star and the No. 18 player (No. 3 offensive tackle) in the nation.

Recruiting offensive tackles certainly hasn’t been a problem for LSU under Kelly, who has landed [autotag]Will Campbell[/autotag], [autotag]Emery Jones[/autotag], [autotag]Lance Heard[/autotag]cmt and now Davis.

With Davis’ addition, LSU’s 2024 class moves into the top-10 nationally and now ranks No. 7 in the country. He’s the third offensive tackle to join the 2024 class alongside [autotag]Ethan Calloway[/autotag] and [autotag]Ory Williams[/autotag].

2024 5-Star OL and Aggie commit Weston Davis cancelled his weekend visit to future SEC program

2024 5-star OL and Aggie commit Weston Davis reportedly cancelled his visit to rival Texas last weekend.

While all of us were focusing on Texas A&M’s SEC opening 27-10 win over Auburn on Saturday afternoon, a key piece of recruiting information regarding one of the Aggies’ top 2024 commits who, despite his commitment, is still taking visits to weigh his options.

2024 five-star offensive lineman Weston Davis committed to the Aggies in late June, being the first elite prospect to start the recruiting momentum train, leading to Texas A&M’s now 5th-ranked, 21-player deep 2024 cycle.

According to On3, Davis is currently positioned as the 18th player in the class, the 3rd-ranked offensive tackle, and the 4th-ranked player in Texas, already in the thick of his 2023 senior season at Beaumont (TX).

Offered by the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 3, Davis was expected to take an official visit to Austin next weekend, and, to the surprise of many, Davis tweeted that he had canceled his visit, seemingly further solidifying his commitment to the Maroon and White. Before committing to the Aggies, Davis had taken OVs to Oklahoma, Alabama, and LSU.

Multiple 2024 Aggie commits rise in On3’s updated On300 rankings

Two 2024 Texas A&M commits, including five-star WR Cam Coleman and five-star OT Weston Davis, have risen in On3’s updated On300 rankings.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is borderline elite from a talent perspective, and even though several of the committed prospects possess the pedigree to represent the class, five-star wide receiver Cameron “Cam” Coleman and now five-star rated offensive tackle Weston Davis look to contribute on offense as soon as they step on campus in 2024.

Already excelling in their respective senior high school seasons, both players have now risen in On3’s newest On300 rankings, starting with Cameron Coleman’s notable rise from the No.12 spot to his current 5th-ranking as second-ranked wide receiver prospect in the cycle behind Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith and the No.1-ranked player in Alabama.

Weston Davis’ meteoric rise has got to be exciting for Jimbo Fisher and his staff, soaring 75 spots from his previous 93 ranking to 18th in the class, ranked as the No.3 offensive tackle prospect, and the fourth-ranked player in Texas.

These rankings are fluid and will likely change again before National Signing Day in February, but let me make one thing clear regarding Coleman and Davis’s trajectory to sign the dotted line with the Maroon and White: Texas A&M’s 2023 offense, which has so far been one of the more productive units in the country behind sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman, and to keep Coleman and Davis excited to join the party eventually, success on the field must reach a state of consistency.

Texas A&M will host the Auburn Tigers at Kyle Field on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11:00 a.m., where it will air on ESPN.

Several 2024 Texas A&M Football commits rise in On3’s newest player rankings

Texas A&M’s 2024 class is loaded with talent, and several commits have received huge boosts in the newest On3, On300 player rankings.

On Monday afternoon, several members of Texas A&M’s Top 10-ranked 2024 recruiting class received significant boosts in On3’s On300 player rankings, while the Aggies’ Team rankings also rose from 9th to 7th, as just two weeks remain before the recruiting dead period ends on Tuesday, July 25.

New Jersey quarterback Miles O’Neill, who committed to the program on June 14, catapulted from being unranked in the Top 300 to his current position at 58th in the country, the most significant rise of any previously unranked prospect in the 2024 cycle, while receiving a four-star designation as well. O’Neill skyrocketing the recruiting ranks is no surprise; his live arm and sneaky duel-threat ability are hard to ignore in a quarterback-rich class.

Five-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman committed to the Maroon and White excitingly on Tuesday, July 4, and ever since that day, his recruiting profile has garnered attention. Rising seven spots from 13th to 6th in the rankings, while it’s hard to imagine him not making his way within the Top 5 by the end of his senior season at Phenix City High School, he is poised to be his most productive yet.

Other 2024 Aggie commits to saw an increase in their rankings include four-star OT Weston Davis (20th from 102nd), four-star IOL Coen Enchols (222nd from 375th), and four-star Tight end Eric Karner (288th from 375th), and now four-star Edge Gabriel Reliford’s meteoric rise from 441st to 121st.

Interestingly, multiple commits saw significant dips in the rankings, including four-star DE Dealyn Evans (67th to 138th), four-star S Jordan Pride (128th to 168th), and most surprisingly, dynamic four-star WR Drelon Millers’ drop from 82nd to 175th. Well, when it comes to rankings by any outlet, they should always be taken with a grain of salt, but as things stand, Jimbo Fisher and his staff are very close to landing a top 5 2024 recruiting class when it’s all said and done.

Twitter reacts to Texas A&M landing 2024 4-star OT Weston Davis, beating out LSU

After Texas A&M landed 2024 4-star OT Weston Davis on Monday, Players and media members reacted accordingly on Twitter.

Texas A&M football recruiting has reached the stage of en fuego, as the program has landed four 2024 prospects since last Thursday, with the most recent coming in the form of four-star offensive tackle and Beaumont, Texas native Weston Davis.

According to On3, Davis is currently positioned as the 23rd-ranked player, 3rd-ranked offensive tackle, and 5th-ranked player in Texas, Davis’ athleticism and massive frame, combined with his elite footwork, are some of the many reasons why this may be Texas A&M’s biggest coup in the 2024 cycle.

Beating out the LSU Tigers, who many thought held a clear advantage over any final contender leading up to his announcement, Texas A&M and Head Coach Jimbo Fisher aren’t slowing down anytime soon, already taking a massive leap in the team recruiting rankings for 247Sports (24th) and On3 (14th), several high priority 2024 prospects including three-star Edge Gabriel Reliford, four-star wide receiver Drelon Miller, and four-star wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby are set to commit later this week.

Due to Weston Davis’s extremely high ceiling, many Texas A&M players, recruits, and media members sounded off on Twitter in what will remain one of the biggest recruiting wins for the Aggies this cycle. Here are the best reactions on the night!

2024 4-star OT Weston Davis has committed to Texas A&M

Texas A&M has landed 2024 4-star offensive tackle Weston Davis, beating out the LSU Tigers on Monday night.

BOOM! Texas A&M has gained their eleventh player in the 2024 recruiting class, reeling another blue-chip prospect as four-star Beaumont, Texas offensive tackle Weston Davis, who was predicted to land with rival LSU, has committed to the Maroon and White!

Weston Davis’s recruiting saga has most Aggies fans worried going into the summer, but as we at Aggies Wire have continued to remind everyone willing to listen, continuing to trust Jimbo Fisher’s recruiting acumen after developing a close relationship with Davis over the last couple of months has led up to today’s announcement, and even though his commitment is a surprise to some analysts (2.3% chance to land with the Aggies according to On3), Texas A&M has been near the finish line the entire time.

Currently positioned as the 23rd-ranked player, 3rd-ranked offensive tackle, and 5th-ranked player in Texas, Davis’ high-end athleticism and massive frame, combined with his elite footwork, are some of the many reasons why this may be Texas A&M’s biggest coup in the 2024 cycle.

With his commitment, Texas A&M now ranks 14th according to On3’s Team Rankings, as Davis joins four-star OT Ashton Funk and three-star IOL Coen Echols as the three trench signees in class. Congratulations, Weston! Gig ’em!

Oklahoma Sooners to host a number of big names June 8-11

Oklahoma will look to turn up the heat on their 2024 recruiting as they host a number of prospects for official visits this weekend.

Recruiting has hit its zenith as the June has rolled around, and prospects across the 2024 class can take official visits. Oklahoma has a number of prospects expected to visit during the month, and the program’s signature ChampU BBQ is the headline event.

While this weekend’s official visitors will be a week early, June recruiting visits are where teams begin to separate themselves. Oklahoma will aim to start the recruiting month by knocking this first weekend of officials out of the park. Here is who is expected in Norman in this weekend.

  • Four-star OL [autotag]Grant Brix[/autotag]

  • Four-star OL [autotag]Jason Zandamela[/autotag]

  • Four-star OL [autotag]Eddy Pierre-Louis[/autotag]

  • Four-star OL [autotag]Weston Davis[/autotag]

  • Four-star DB [autotag]Marcelles Williams[/autotag]

  • Five-star DL [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag]
  • Five-Star CB [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag]
  • Four-star CB [autotag]Eli Bowen[/autotag]
  • Three-star Edge [autotag]Caleb Redd[/autotag]

  • Four-star OL [autotag]Eugene Brooks[/autotag]
  • Four-star WR [autotag]Zion Ragins[/autotag]
  • Four-star QB [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] (committed)

There’s a great deal of talent coming to Norman this weekend, headlined by five-star prospects Williams Nwaneri and Kobe Black. The Sooners have been the projected leader for Nwaneri, who hails from the Kansas City area, but this is a huge weekend for Brent Venables and his staff to close the deal. Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee and Missouri are serious names to watch.

Black’s recruitment is more contentious at this point, but given the success Jay Valai has had over the last two recruiting cycles, I wouldn’t count out the Sooners.

The Sooners also welcome fellow blue-chip defensive backs Eli Bowen and Marcelles Williams. Oklahoma leads for Bowen based on recruiting projections. The Sooners are hoping to pry Williams from West Coast schools USC and UCLA.

Oklahoma’s also is hosting five offensive linemen over the weekend, which provides them a good opportunity to spend time with the staff, namely Bill Bedenbaugh, but also each other. Chemistry is a huge factor in offensive line play. Spending time with offensive linemen on campus and those the Sooners are pursuing could create a further comfort level with Oklahoma.

This is a big weekend to kick start Oklahoma’s June recruiting efforts.

LSU makes the cut for 4-star Texas OT

The Tigers made the cut for one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2024 class.

The Tigers are making a push for one of the top offensive linemen available in the 2024 class, and they made the top six for Beaumont (Tex.) Beaumont United offensive tackle [autotag]Weston Davis[/autotag].

Davis, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound prospect, is unrated by the 247Sports Composite but ranks No. 114 nationally per the On3 industry consensus rankings, as well as being the No. 7 offensive tackle. He recently trimmed his list down to four teams: Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, TCU and LSU.

There are currently no Crystal Ball predictions for Davis, but Alabama is a 66.8% favorite to land him, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. LSU has the next highest percentage at 66.8%.

Davis was on campus this fall for the win over Southern, and he had positive things to say about his trip and meetings with the coaching staff, especially offensive line coach [autotag]Brad Davis[/autotag]. The Tigers will hope to add another talented prospect to their second-ranked 2024 class.
