Louisville vs Kentucky How To Watch

Date: Saturday, November 26
Game Time: 3:00 ET
Venue: Kroger Field, Lexington, KY
How To Watch: SEC Network
Record: Louisville (7-4), Kentucky (6-5)
Sign up and live stream college football on ESPN+

Why Louisville Will Win

The Kentucky offense just sort of stopped.

It wasn’t exactly ripping through everyone in the 4-0 start, but at least it was effective. Now it’s struggling behind a leaky offensive line, the ground attack has been brutally inconsistent, and QB Will Levis has been beaten, battered, and bruised.

And Louisville’s defense is there for all of it. It leads the nation in sacks, it’s great at generating tackles for loss, and only WKU comes up with more takeaways.

Shock of shocks, when the UK offense comes up with a ton of yards, it wins. It’s 4-0 when gaining 350 yards or more and 2-5 when it doesn’t.

Louisville allows 347 yards per game.

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Kentucky Will Win

Is Malik Cunningham playing?

He’s hoping he can and thinks he might after suffering a concussion against Clemson and missing the NC State game, but no matter what he’s hardly 100%.

Brock Domann stepped in last week and wasn’t awful in the win over NC State, but the running game did most of the work. No matter who’s under center, the Kentucky pass defense should shine.

The run D has been a bit hit-or-miss – it struggled against Vanderbilt and wasn’t great against Georgia – but the D hasn’t allowed 200 passing yards in any of the last three games.

Louisville’s defense might be terrific at coming up with takeaways, but Kentucky can do that, too. It forced two in each of the last three games and is solid on third downs.

Overall, the D has the ability to keep the Louisville ground attack in check, but …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Louisville has been balanced enough to find ways to keep things moving, and the defense is taking care of the rest with all the takeaways.

This is where the Cardinal defensive front has to shine. Will Levis might be good enough to overcome a slew of problems, and he’s used to dealing with a pass rush, but he’s going to get hit a bit too often.

The Kentucky deliberate style won’t be enough to overcome a great day from the Cardinal defense.

Notre Dame vs USC How To Watch

Game Time: 7:30 ET
Venue: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
How To Watch: ABC
Record: Notre Dame (8-3), USC (10-1)
Sign up and live stream college football on ESPN+

Why Notre Dame Will Win

The Irish are going to run the ball.

It’s been easy to dismiss the season because of the 0-2 start and loss to Marshall, and the inexplicable loss to Stanford always gets brought up, but the team is 8-1 in the last nine game for a reason.

The running game has found it.

The passing attack hasn’t been consistent enough, but the offensive line has kicked it in, the trio of backs and QB Drew Pyne are producing, and it’s getting stronger and stronger with 220 rushing yards or more in four of the last five games.

Notre Dame is 6-0 when it runs for 200 yards or more. UCLA just powered away for over 200 in the thrilling 48-45 USC win, but it’s more than just that.

The Trojan D gives up 4.6 yards per carry, but most teams abandon the ground game to start throwing in an attempt to keep up the pace. The Irish have to keep running no matter what until the O breaks through.

They’re 8-0 when running 38 times or more, and Stanford is the only team to run that many times – 45 in the 41-28 loss – against the Trojans.

But …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why USC Will Win

Caleb Williams is just that good.

He had the performance he needed to have against UCLA – 75% for 470 yards and two scores and 33 rushing yards and a touchdown – and now the Heisman might be his for the taking with one more monster game when everyone is watching.

But USC is more than 13.

Even without Travis Dye the running game kept on rolling last week – the Trojans average 5.3 yards per carry – the line gives Williams a ton of time to work, and it all meshes with a relentless style that will be impossible for Notre Dame to match.

Only Tennessee averages more yards per game, no one is better in turnover margin, and only Washington is more effective on third downs.

Again, the turnover margin. Notre Dame has forced multiple takeaways in three of the last four games, but USC has only given it away four times. So …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

USC might turn it over once, but it won’t turn it over two or more times that Notre Dame will need.

USC will give up 450 yards, but it won’t give up the 500 Notre Dame will need.

Williams will struggle in the first half, find his groove in the second half, and then it’ll come down to the USC defense and its second takeaway of the game to seal the thriller.

UCF vs USF How To Watch

Game Time: 7:00 ET
Venue: ESPN2
How To Watch: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL
Record: UCF (8-3), USF (1-10)
Sign up and live stream college football on ESPN+

Why UCF Will Win

Just win and let it all go from there.

The Tulane-Cincinnati winner will host the American Athletic Conference championship, and UCF can get there with a win and a Tulsa win over Houston, or by breaking through all the crazy tie-breaking scenarios. For the moment, though, beat USF.

Just run. QB John Rhys Plumlee is banged up with a shoulder injury – he’s questionable – but the ground game should be just fine with the backs able to take over right from the start.

Even though Navy was able to stuff the Knights last week, don’t think that’s going to happen again.

The Knights are 6-0 when running for over 250 yards and 8-1 when rumbling for 160 or more. USF only held two teams to fewer than 160 yards, and that’s because East Carolina and Houston bombed away at will with the passing game.

But …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why USF Will Win

The losses keep on piling up, but the offense is a whole lot of fun.

The defense is the big problem – it’s dead last in the nation allowing 514 yards per game – but the O rips up rushing yards in chunks and should push for 400 yards in this.

It’s the end of a lost season, there aren’t any wins over FBS teams, and things are about to change in the offseason, but it’s still a rivalry game that often defies all logic and reason. And that’s why …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

There will be lots and lots and lots of offense.

Last year was a 17-13 UCF win. That might be the first quarter.

58-46 UCF in 2020. 49-42 UCF in 2017. 48-31 USF in 2016. That’s what this might be with both attacks going off.

UCF’s running game will be too much. It’ll blast for well over 300 yards, and it’ll need all of them before finally pulling away.

How To Watch: Pac-12 Network
Record: Utah (8-3), Colorado (1-10)

Why Utah Will Win

The Utes will be doing a little scoreboard watching.

They need Oregon to lose to Oregon State – that starts about 90 minutes before this starts – and then it gets potentially weird if Washington beats Washington State later that night.

First, Utah has to take care of business and roll through a Colorado team about to put a merciful end to its season.

The Buffs are dead last in the nation against the run. That’s a big, BIG problem against the Utah offensive line.

The Utes average over 200 yards per game on the ground and are 6-1 when averaging over 4.5 yards per carry – the one loss coming in the final seconds against Florida.

Colorado allowed 4.5 yards per carry or more in every game but two. It’s about to get hammered on hard, but …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Colorado Will Win

Utah struggles on the road.

It’s been a disastrous season, and it would be a heavy lift to get past a team good enough to potentially play for the Pac-12 Championship, but there’s Salt Lake City Utah and there’s everywhere else Utah.

Salt Lake City Utah is 6-0, beat USC, and totally destroyed everyone else. Everywhere else Utah is 2-3 and had to fight to get past Washington State.

For Colorado, it starts with not turning the ball over. The offense might struggle to move the chains, but the multiple turnovers every game are the killer.

The offensive line hasn’t been awful. It has to keep the Utes out of the backfield, the running game has to be decent, and …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Dead last in the nation in scoring defense. Dead last in the nation in sacks. Dead last in the nation against the run. Dead last in the nation in third down defense. Second-to-last in the nation in total defense.

It’s been a rough run for Colorado. It’s about to add to that total of 232.5 rushing yards per game allowed as Utah starts running, keeps running, and doesn’t stop.

BYU vs Stanford How To Watch

Venue: Stanford Stadium, Palo Alto, CA
How To Watch: FS1
Record: BYU (6-5), Stanford (3-8)

Why BYU Will Win

The passing game has kicked it back in.

Rolling for 455 yards against Utah Tech was no big deal, but that came off a 377-yard, three touchdown day against Boise State. Jaren Hall has thrown for two or more touchdowns in nine straight games and ten of the last 11, and even better are the downfield throws.

BYU has a ground attack – it’s 5-2 when running for over 115 yards – but it’s better when it’s cranking up the downfield plays. Stanford can’t stop the run – going 0-7 when giving up 160 yards or more – but in this, BYU will grind to set up the big throws from Hall. But …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Stanford Will Win

BYU’s defense has been struggling, too.

It got the job done against the terrific Boise State running attack, but it’s about to get tested after allowing over 200 yards on the ground in five straight games before that.

Stanford’s passing attack has to keep things moving, but it can’t abandon the running game that couldn’t get going against the better Pac-12 defenses but should have a little success here.

It has to establish the run early, hit a few third down plays, and it has to keep BYU from consistently moving the chains – it’s the best in the Pac-12 at coming up with third down stops.

There aren’t going to be a lot of turnovers or penalties, and …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Stanford just doesn’t score enough.

It’s possible the defense rises up in the final game of the year, but the three wins came when allowing 14 points or fewer and allowed 27 or more against everyone else.

BYU is 0-4 when scoring fewer than 26 points and 6-1 when scoring that many or more. The BYU offense will struggle to get past 26 points, but it’ll do it.

Game Time: 7:00 ET
Venue: Kyle Field, College Station, TX
How To Watch: ESPN
Record: LSU (9-2), Texas A&M (4-7)

Why LSU Will Win

Can LSU crank its game up a few notches even though this doesn’t matter that much?

Of course it matters. It’s an SEC game against Texas A&M, and winning is a must to stay in the national title chase, but whether it’s by one or 41, beating Georgia next week in the SEC Championship is everything to the College Football Playoff chase.

First, the Tigers have to roll through an A&M team that’s struggling way too much to get the offense going.

Yeah, the weather wasn’t great, but 20 points against UMass wasn’t anything special for A&M in last week’s win.

The passing attack is painfully inconsistent and not sharp enough, it’s awful on third downs, and worst of all considering the team’s style under Jimbo Fisher, the O isn’t controlling the clock.

However …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Texas A&M Will Win

The pressure is all on the other side of the field.

LSU does need to win this and it does need to be relatively impressive. The College Football Playoff thing might be a media discussion, but this team knows what’s at stake.

It knows it might just have a shot to play in the tournament if it can win next week, and … that’s next week. This week it gets a Texas A&M team that’s going to pull out all the stops in its final game of the season.

The LSU offensive line is struggling against anyone with a pass rush. Texas A&M struggles up front, but it should have its moments.

LSU lost to Florida State away from Baton Rouge. It was in a fight until the final few minutes at Florida. It couldn’t throw in the 13-10 win over Arkansas, and it struggled in the 21-17 at Auburn. Granted, LSU won three true road games against okay-to-mediocre SEC teams, but all were tough to get through.

Again, this is where the Texas A&M defensive line has to rise up. LSU is 9-0 when it runs for over 175 and 0-2 when it doesn’t. Texas A&M has allowed more than 175 rushing yards six times and all four wins came when it gave up fewer than five yards per carry.

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Texas A&M is going to make this very, very scary for LSU.

The home side has won the last five games in the series, and the Aggies are going to play like this is everything for the program. Win, and it’ll make the next nine months a whole lot easier – and promising.

But the offense just isn’t there.

A&M will fight the good fight, but LSU will push through late with the scoring drives it needed to get to Atlanta with the CFP dreams still alive.

Why Pitt Will Win

The balance of the Pitt offense might be too much for the Miami defense.

The Panthers might not be cranking up the production, and they might not be all that explosive, but they’ve been steady, the run defense has been a rock, and the pass rush should live behind the Hurricane line.

The Miami offensive front is struggling for the running game, the Pitt pass rush is the third best in America, and it all feeds into a slight tweak of styles overall compared to the last few years.

That balanced offense is dominating the clock. Miami has to win the time of possession battle, and it won’t. However …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Miami Will Win

Miami has to keep the Pitt ground game from taking over.

The Canes are 0-4 when allowing more than 130 yards on the ground and 2-5 when giving up more than 95. Load up against the Panther running game, get the pass rush working, and takeaways, takeaways, takeaways.

The defense forced seven over the last two games and two or more six times. The offense isn’t doing enough consistently well to produce without a little bit of help, and that might come from the Pitt offense that’s had its moments giving it away.

The three turnovers were a killer in the loss to Georgia Tech, the four were a disaster in the loss to Louisville, and …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

The Miami defensive front might come up with two takeaways, but it won’t be strong enough against the run.

Pitt has only failed to hit 100 rushing yards once this year – a win over West Virginia – and it’ll get the ground attack moving early on in this. The other side will come up with at least five sacks to stall too many promising Miami drives.

The Canes are 0-7 when allowing more than 14 points. Pitt only scored fewer than 19 in the 24-10 loss to Louisville.

Why Tennessee Will Win

The Vol offense is still going to be explosive.

Everything went wrong in the blowout loss to South Carolina. The College Football Playoff dream is gone, and worse yet, star QB Hendon Hooker suffered a torn ACL.

Backup Joe Milton isn’t Hooker, but he has all the tools and skills to bomb away deep, and the running game is there to take over to keep the pressure off the new guy under center.

Tennessee is known for it’s high-flying fun show down the field, but it also ran for 200 yards or more six times – it’s 8-0 when it gets past 152 rushing yards.

Vanderbilt gives up 154 rushing yards per game, but …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Can the Commodores really go bowling?

They managed to shock Kentucky and Florida over the last two weeks to make this for six wins and bowl eligibility. How?

The defense is giving up big plays, but not a slew of little ones – if that makes any sense.

Florida’s Anthony Richardson bombed away for 400 yards, but he only hit 58% of his throws and there wasn’t any running game. Kentucky’s passing attack didn’t do anything – Will Levis didn’t have any time – but the ground attack worked. Vanderbilt managed to win both games because of …

Completion percentage.

Vandy is 4-0 when teams hit fewer than 60% of their passes, and 1-6 when allowing more than that.

Joe Milton has a lot of positives. Being accurate isn’t one of them, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Can Tennessee pick itself up off the mat?

The running game will do most of the heavy lifting and the defense will be good enough. Vanderbilt will throw well, but it won’t take over on the ground like it’ll need to.

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The Blue Devil pass defense is about to have a bad day.

It’s been okay for the most part all year, but it allows 255 yards per game and doesn’t generate enough third down stops. Now it has to deal with the steady Wake Forest air show.

There might have been issues over the last month with three straight losses before finally getting back on track with a win over Syracuse, but even when things weren’t going right Sam Hartman and the passing attack rolled for over 300 yards.

Duke is used to giving up big yards through the air, but it’s the completion percentage that should be a problem. Duke is 0-3 against teams that hit 65% or more of their passes. Hartman should be able to do that, which is why …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Duke Will Win

Duke has to come up with multiple takeaways.

It’s been able to do it in four of the last five games, and that’s usually the antidote for the Demon Deacon attack. Wake Forest doesn’t normally have giveaway issues, but the eight against Louisville and three against NC State were a killer.

Duke is one of the best teams in the country in turnover margin. It’s not going to be able to hang yard-for-yard, but as long as it comes up with a few big plays here and there the offense should be able to crank up its own offense and keep up.

It’s not like Wallace Wade is Death Valley or anything, but Duke has been fantastic at home and struggled on the road. However, it hasn’t beaten anyone  anywhere who’s going bowling – this would be the team’s best win of the season by far.

The Demon Deacon offense will be a bit steadier and more explosive. It’ll be dominant on third downs to go along with the big downfield shots.

Why Iowa State Will Win

The defense is good enough to make this a fight.

There hasn’t been a lick of luck – or help – on the offensive side, but the Cyclone defense has been able to keep just about every game close with six of the seven losses by seven points or fewer.

TCU might have a high-powered offense that always finds ways to come though in the clutch, but the Cyclone D is brilliant on third downs, allows just 277 yards per game, and is a rock against the run.

Baylor was able to grind the game down a bit last week and own the time of possession battle, holding the ball for close to 34 minutes. It might be tilted worse than that against the Big 12’s leader at controlling the clock.

Iowa State is 4-1 when allowing fewer than 100 rushing yards per game, and it’s going to sell out to stop the Horned Frogs from getting on the move. But …

Why TCU Will Win

Iowa State isn’t going to hold TCU to fewer than 100 yards on the ground.

The offense is too balanced, too explosive down the field, and too good at mixing things up. It was held to a season-low 115 yards on the ground against Baylor, but it made up for it with 327 yards through the air.

TCU is amazing at being able to figure it out. Iowa State’s offense isn’t.

The Cyclones might be last in the Big 12 in total offense, but it’s able to move the ball – the Big 12 is a bit out of whack with amazing attacks. However, they’re AWFUL at putting the biscuit in the basket – it’s one of the worst offenses in the nation in the red zone.

What’s Going To Happen

TCU once again will pull it off.

Iowa State will throw a major scare into the Horned Frogs, but it’ll come up just short as it fails to come through when it has its chances. That’s what it does.

TCU will get to the Big 12 Championship at 12-0 by going on the scoring march it absolutely has to have. That’s what it does.
