Eagles schedule: 5 predictions for Philadelphia’s 2023 slate

We’re looking at five bold predictions for the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 NFL Schedule

The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2023 schedule was released along with the rest of the NFL slate last Thursday, with the season kicking off on Thursday, Sept. 7, as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

After improving the talent on the roster by acquiring D’Andre Swift and drafting two more Georgia defenders in Round 1, the Eagles have the NFL’s best roster and a top two quarterback.

A disadvantage stems from it being Year 3 of the new 17-game schedule, with NFC teams receiving the extra road game, meaning the Eagles will have nine games away from Lincoln Financial Field this season.

With the matchups locked in, here are five early, bold predictions for the 2023 slate of games.

4 quirks of Eagles’ 2023 regular season schedule

We’re looking at three quirks or odd things to notice about the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 regular season schedule

The NFL schedule construction is a unique process that’s become even more difficult over the years thanks to increased parity, spread out star power and several dominant teams vying for a Super Bowl every year.

Philadelphia is the defending NFC Champions after going 14-3 last season, and they’ll enter 2023 with an ever higher profile after signing quarterback Jalen Hurts to a massive five-year, $255 million deal.

The Eagles have the NFL’s toughest schedule, and four quirks that could add to the difficult 17 game jaunt.

Eagles’ over/under win total among highest in NFL for 2023

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the highest predicted win totals for 2023 with 11.5

The NFL schedule has been released and the Eagles already know that they’ll have the tough slate of games in 2023.

According to DraftKings, the Eagles’ over/under win total has been set at 11.5 games.

That’s among the highest in the NFL, where only the Chiefs and Bengals have similar odds. San Francisco and Buffalo are in the next tier with 10.5 win odds.

Philadelphia’s toughest matchups will come at Lincoln Financial Field, with six of their eight games coming against teams that made the playoffs last year (Cowboys, Giants, Bills, 49ers, Dolphins and Vikings).

Washington stopped the Eagles nine game winning streak last season, meaning seven of the eight home games will come against teams that finished last season with with a record of .500 or better.

One statistic that summarizes the utter futility of the Daniel Snyder era

If you want to summarize the utter futility of the Daniel Snyder era, there’s one statistic that does it better than most.

The Washington Redskins/Football Team/Commanders under owner Daniel Snyder had quite the string of futility from 1999, when Snyder took ownership, through 2022, Snyder’s last season as owner before he was finally and mercifully bought out.

Snyders announce agreement to sell Commanders to Josh Harris-led group

The NFL franchise in the nation’s capital compiled a 164-220-2 record throughout Snyder’s tenure, and the .427 win percentage was the sixth-worst in the NFL over that period of time, ahead of only the Houston Texans, Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, and Cleveland Browns. No amount of Snyder’s money could overcome the toxic environment he created, and his constant need to meddle in personnel affairs continued to limit his team’s prospects.

Perhaps the most damning Snyder statistic is this: Through his time as team owner, Washington’s football franchise had three different names (Redskins/Football Team/Commanders)… and just two playoff wins. There was the 27-13 wild-card win over the Detroit Lions in the 1999 season, and the 17-10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2005 season.

That’s it.

Meanwhile, Snyder finally dropped the “Redskins” name in 2020 after insisting for years that he wouldn’t, changing it to the “Football Team” (how original) for a couple years, and then flipping it to “Commanders” in time for last season.

One thing’s for sure — the new ownership group, led by Josh Harris, has a low bar to clear.
