Bucs RB Sean Tucker named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Headlining the team with 136 rushing yards, three receptions for 56 yards, and two total touchdowns was Bucs running back Sean Tucker.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers set a franchise record with 594 net yards of offense in Sunday’s 51-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

While the Saints’ defense posted a box score that showed three interceptions, they had no answer for the Bucs’ offensive attack. Headlining the team with 136 rushing yards, three receptions for 56 yards, and two total touchdowns was Bucs running back Sean Tucker, who has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 6.

Not only did the second-year running back gash the Saints defense, averaging a sweltering 9.7 yards per carry on 14 carries, but Tucker’s 192 yards from scrimmage were also the third-highest in a single game through six weeks of the 2024 NFL season, trailing only Derrick Henry’s 209-yard and Ja’Marr Chase’s 193-yard performances.

Following Tucker’s dominating performance, he entered elite company, becoming the fourth RB in Bucs franchise history (Doug Martin x2, Warrick Dunn x2, and James Wilder) to total 192+ yards from scrimmage.

Adding further to the impressive resume that Tucker built in Week 6, this becomes the first Offensive Player of the Week award that a Bucs running back has won since Leonard Fournette against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12 of 2021.

Warrick Dunn is still giving new homes to single moms

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back is still making a huge impact in the local community

For years, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Warrick Dunn has been giving back to the local community in a big way by giving new homes to single mothers.

He’s still at it, most recently giving over the keys to multiple families in the Sarasota area (via WFLA News Channel 8).

Kudos to Dunn for continuing to make an even bigger impact off the field after his impressive NFL career.

Florida State announces plans to retire Jameis Winston’s college jersey

Florida State announced plans to retire Jameis Winston’s college jersey at Saturday’s game versus North Alabama:

Now this is cool: Florida State announced plans to retire Jameis Winston’s college jersey at Saturday’s game versus North Alabama, recognizing the New Orleans Saints quarterback for his accomplishments in Tallahassee. Winston led the school to a 14-0 record and a Rose Bowl win back in 2013, setting the stage for a College Football Playoff run in his 2014 sophomore season.

Winston only played two years at Florida State, but he left with the fourth-most career passing yards (7,964) and second-most touchdown passes (65) in school history, plus a 26-1 record.

And now, a decade since he turned pro, Winston will see the jersey he wore honored in an exclusive group. He’s just the eleventh player to earn this recognition at Florida State, joining the likes of Fred Biletnikoff, Derrick Brooks, Terrell Buckley, Warrick Dunn, Marvin Jones, Deion Sanders, Ron Sellers, Ron Simmons, Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke.

Good for him. Winston’s jersey will be retired in a ceremony at the end of the first quarter in Saturday’s home game at Doak S. Campbell Stadium. It’s also senior night, and kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT with television coverage on The CW network.

27 Days, 27 Picks: RB Warrick Dunn

The Bucs had two first-round picks in 1997, and our next player in the 27 Days, 27 Picks series is the first one:

In 27 Days, 27 Picks, Bucs Wire will analyze the last 27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round draft picks, one for each day leading up to the 2023 NFL draft. We’ll take a look at the player’s college stats, their pre-draft numbers (either via the NFL Combine or their Pro Day), their NFL stats, some player footage and analysis at the end on whether the pick itself was a good one.

We go to the 1997 draft now — a landmark year where the Bucs changed their uniforms and had two first-round picks. The first of those was a running back who ran rampant for 12 years, but only half of them were with the Bucs.

Here’s a look at [autotag]Warrick Dunn[/autotag]’s draft profile below:

Texans QB Deshaun Watson wins BET Faith in Action award, thanks former Buccaneers RB Warrick Dunn

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was named as BET’s Faith in Action Award winner.

Who says Deshaun Watson can’t win in February?

The Houston Texans three-time Pro Bowl quarterback has demonstrated his victorious nature, not just on the football field, but in the game of life. For these reasons, he collected the BET Faith in Action award Saturday night.

The presentation of the award was made by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn, who famously gave Watson and his mother a home on behalf of Habitat for Humanity back in the mid-2000s when Dunn was with the Falcons.

“First, I want to say thank you to Warrick Dunn for your kind words,” said Watson. “Thank you for blessing me and my family when I was a little boy and inspiring me to fulfill my dreams and do the things that I want to do. And just really being a blessing around the country. So, thank you, man.”

Watson wasn’t finished with his thank yous, and he also declared what it mean to him and his family to be named the honoree.

Said Watson: “I want to say thank you to Super Bowl Gospel. Thank you to BET. Thank you to the NFL for this awesome award. This is one of my favorite awards that I’ve been able to receive in my lifetime. My mom, she definitely enjoyed it because this is what we live about. This is what she raised all of her kids on is having that faith in action and standing tall for what we believe in and helping people around in the community.

“So, I just want to say thank you everyone. This is definitely one that we’re going to celebrate and really enjoy and put this one the stand in the front. This is what we live about. So, thank you everyone and God bless.”

Watson won the NFL passing title in 2020 with 4,823 yards, setting the new Texans single-season mark in the process. The former 2017 first-round pick from Clemson also set the new Texans single-season passing touchdown mark with 33 scoring throws.

Watch: Emotional Warrick Dunn welcomed to Falcons’ Ring of Honor

The Atlanta Falcons are welcoming Warrick Dunn into their Ring of Honor

Warrick Dunn is one of the good guys. And that isn’t restricted to football or sports.

The former NFL running back has a huge heart and has spent much of his life making the world better for others.

On his 46th birthday, Dunn had a meeting with Atlanta Falcons team owner Arthur Blank.

And Blank delivered special news. Warrick Dunn is going into the team’s Ring of Honor.

Dunn split his 12-year NFL career between the Bucs and the Falcons. With Atlanta, he rushed for 5,981 yards and 30 TDs.

Off the field, his foundation has furnished 169 homes, provided over $800,000 in down-payment assistance, and served over 457 single parents and children.

Deshaun Watson vows to help Houston families evicted due to COVID hardships

Deshaun Watson and his family once received a home from Warrick Dunn’s foundation. Now, Watson wants to help others in need.

Through August 31, the federal government had assistance for those unable to pay their rents and mortgages through the CARES Act. Sadly, once that ended, evictions started. CNN recently aired a story in which police knocked on several doors of the homes of residents whose evictions had been ordered. Per the report, as many as 40 million people now face the threat of eviction due to financial uncertainty as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

It’s a heartbreaking story that will increase in volume unless the government steps in to help again, and the Houston-based hardships did not escape the notice of Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who wants to help.

Watson knows what it’s like to get help for your family when you’re in a bad spot. Former Buccaneers and Falcons running back Warrick Dunn has been providing single-parent families with home furnishing assistance and help with down payments for years, and when Watson was nine years old, he and his family received a note from Habitat for Humanity indicating how families could take steps to home ownership. Watson’s mother Deann volunteered over 300 hours of her time helping to build homes for other families, which led to the best surprise of the Watson family’s lives.

Several replies in Watson’s Twitter thread were from people who were trying to connect Watson to the people in need of help in Houston, so hopefully, Watson is able to pay it forward as he wants to do.
