Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton was named the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award nominee for 2024.

The Denver Broncos nominated linebacker Alex Singleton for the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide, the team announced Thursday.

“Considered the NFLā€™s most prestigious honor, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year recognizes a player for his outstanding leadership both on the field and in the community,” said the Broncos in a press release.

Singleton’s work off the field is something close to his heart; work with the Special Olympics. “Singletonā€™s older sister, Ashley, has been a Special Olympics athlete for more than 20 years, inspiring him to become an advocate for the organization,” said the statement. Singleton’s sister helped announce his nomination, wearing a shirt that read, “My brother is the Broncos’ Walter Payton Man of the Year.”

Singleton has experienced a roller coaster of a season, being voted a captain before the year began, and then tearing his ACL in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite playing all 57 snaps during the game.

You can watch Singleton’s reaction to his nomination below.

“Previous Broncos nominees for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award include tackleĀ Garett BollesĀ (2023), guardĀ Dalton RisnerĀ (2022), safetyĀ Justin SimmonsĀ (2019-21), outside linebackerĀ Von MillerĀ (2018) and cornerbackĀ Chris Harris Jr.Ā (2017).Ā John Elway (1992) is the only Broncos nominee to win the national award, which was first given in 1970 and renamed after the Chicago Bears’ Pro Football Hall of Fame running back in 1999,” said the release.

Former Wisconsin Badgers fullback Alec Ingold was named the Miami Dolphins’ 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee on Thursday.

Ingold joins 31 athletes representing every NFL franchise for the league’s most prestigious honor. Since 1970, the award has annually recognized a player’s commitment to philanthropy, positive community influence and ability to impact individuals outside the gridiron.

This is the third time Ingold has been nominated for the award in his six-year NFL career. He earned previous nominations in 2020 with the Las Vegas Raiders and in 2023 with the Dolphins.

All 32 nominees will be recognized for their achievements during the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The winner will be announced during the NFL Honors on Feb. 6. UW legends Russell Wilson and J.J. Watt won the award in 2020 and 2017, respectively.

Former Notre Dame running back is Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee

Congrats, Kyren!

Former Notre Dame running back [autotag]Kyren Williams[/autotag] has done well in his three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. He made the Pro Bowl last year and is closing in on his second straight 1,000-yard season.

But Williams also has given a lot back to the community since he joined the NFL, and the Rams decided it was time for him to be recognized for that. Specifically, he has been selected as their 2024 nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year.

The Rams chose to reveal this news to Williams in a very personal way. They invited team legend Steven Jackson to do the honors during a team meeting. The screen at the front of the room showed a photo of a younger Williams posing with Jackson while the team was based in St. Louis, where Williams grew up. Jackson felt it appropriate to gift his fellow running back with a pair of cleats.

Here’s how it all went down:

Congratulations to Williams, and here’s hoping he can add to his trophy case.

Seahawks nominate Uchenna Nwosu for Walter Payton Man of the Year

Seahawks nominate Uchenna Nwosu for Walter Payton Man of the Year

The most prestigious honor in all of football is not the Most Valuable Player, or which All-Pro team one qualifies for. The best award a player can end the year with is the illustrious Walter Payton Man of the Year award, highlighting a player’s excellence on and off the field as an upstanding member of his community.

Nominees for all 32 teams in the league have been announced, including the Seattle Seahawks. Representing the Hawks, the 12th Man and the City of Seattle is none other than linebacker Uchenna Nwosu.

This is the second time Nwosu has been nominated for Man of the Year honors, the first being his second season in the league. Now, he once again is up for the biggest award in football. Nwosu founded the Uchenna Nwosu Foundation in 2023, and the impact is evident. Recently, Nwosu traveled to his father’s home village in Nigeria to restore electricity and rebuild roads. His donations also helped pay for an athletic trainer at his former high school.

To date, there have been only two Seahawks to win the Walter Payton Man of the Year award: Steve Largent in 1988 and Russell Wilson in 2020. Should Nwosu take home these honors, he will forever wear a Walter Payton silhouette patch on his jersey, no matter the team he plays for.

Nwosu has not been able to make much of an impact on the field this year due to unfortunate injuries, but that has clearly not prevented him from making an impact off it.

Commanders’ Bobby Wagner named Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee

Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wager is a nominee for the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner has long been known for his ability to sniff out a play and stop it wherever it is on the field. He’s a force to be reckoned with, one that most offenses dread seeing across from them. A Super Bowl Champion, nine-time Pro Bowl selection, a 10-time All-Pro Selection, and three-time NFL tackles leader, Wagner has made himself a nuisance for offenses since he joined the league in 2012.

But Wagner isn’t just an excellent football player, he’s also a huge advocate for mental health and social justice reform. His work in these fields has led him to be the Commanders’ nomination for the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

“I’ve always felt strongly about the importance of giving back, and I never take for granted the opportunity and resources to contribute to our community in every way I can,” said Commanderā€™s linebacker Bobby Wagner. “While I normally donā€™t seek recognition for my work, it is truly humbling to have my efforts acknowledged through this prestigious nomination. My goal has always been to inspire others on and off the field through my work and this recognition reminds me of the many people that still inspire me every day.”

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award is given annually to a player who exhibits excellence on the field and demonstrates a commitment to creating a positive impact off the field. It is the most revered award in the league. Every nominee will wear a helmet decal beginning in Week 14 and the winner will be announced on February 6 during NFL Honors on FOX and NFL Network.

Watch: Steven Jackson surprises Kyren Williams with Walter Payton Award nomination

It was a full-circle moment for Steven Jackson and Kyren Williams in this wholesome video

Kyren Williams grew up in St. Louis, so he was unsurprisingly a Rams fan as a kid. He even got the chance to meet Steven Jackson when he was younger, taking a photo with the Rams legend at the Edwards Jones Dome that heā€™ll never forget.

Thatā€™s what made this full-circle moment so special for both running backs.

Jackson surprised Williams during a team meeting recently to share the news that he is the Ramsā€™ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Williams, a player whoā€™s always giving back to the community, is following in Jacksonā€™s footsteps in that regard.

So when Jackson shared the news of Williamsā€™ nomination, it made for an awesome moment between the two running backs. Jackson gave Williams a pair of gold cleats, too, which was a special touch for the Rams star.

ā€œThese shoes went over my head when I was a kid when you threw them up in the stands and some dude grabbed them from me. My momā€™s going to cry when she sees these,ā€ Williams said.

Check out the full video below, which will probably bring a tear to your eye.

Here’s a closer look at the gold cleats Jackson gifted Williams.

Texans announce their nominee for 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

The Houston Texans have found their Walter Payton Man of the Year honoree for the 2024 season.

Ask anyone inside the Houston Texans locker room how they feel about Jalen Pitre in one word and you can expect to hear a few crossovers and correlations.

Leader comes to mind.

So does “Captain.”

Hard-working, dedicated, and unrelenting are a few that also fit the mold surrounding the third-year defensive back.

But Man of the Year honoree? That’s a title that must be earned among peers and coaches.

Consider the mission accomplished as of Thursday morning.

Pitre was named theĀ Texansā€™Ā nominee for the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.Ā  The award recognizes players who excel on and off the field through their involvement in the community.

This is the first time Pitre has been nominated for the award, which comes on the heels of a breakout season with the AFC South franchise. His dedication to the on-field craft has carried over to his work in the Great Houston community.

A Stafford graduate just outside downtown Houston, Ptire is an advocate for Kidsā€™ Meals Inc., a local nonprofit organization that delivers free, healthy meals to children in need to try to end the widespread problem of childhood hunger.

Last season, he teamed up with Kids’ Meals to lead the “Feed 5 More” campaign that continues today. Through $5 incremental, crowd-sourced donations, his goal is to raise funds to feed 55,555 kids.

“Jalen Pitre is a shining example of an exceptional leader on and off the field,” Houston Texans Chair and CEO Cal McNair said. “As a hometown player, we’re so proud of the impact he’s had in our community and look forward to his continued commitment to H-Town for many years to come. Jalen is incredibly deserving of this honor and we know how much this means to him.”

Pitre also serves as a sponsor in the Texans’ Community Huddle Ticket Program this season, which gives people who may not otherwise have a chance to attend an NFL game with a unique experience.Ā  Every home game, the Stafford Cobras, the youth football team Pitre played on growing up, are treated to tickets, food vouchers and parking passes at NRG Stadium.

“My parents always taught me that if anyone was in need and we had the means that we should lend a helping hand,” Pitre said. “I’m blessed to be in this position now, and it’s my duty to help and shed light on others who need it. I have a ton of gratitude and appreciation that I was chosen as a nominee for this award. I hope I can continue to inspire and encourage people to help others as much as they can.”

While most people will speak of Pitre’s work off the field, his on-field play has been superb. In 12 games, he’s totaled 44 solo tackles, an interception, two sacks and a career-high eight passes defended.

Last month, Pitre suffered a partial tear to his pectoral muscle against the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 24. While he’s not expected to miss the remainder of the season, there’s no timetable on when he’ll return to the lineup.

Fans can vote for Pitre on the NFLā€™s official website and through social media with the hashtag #WPMOYChallenge.

Each of the leagueā€™s 32 nominees will receive up to a $55,000 donation in their name to a charity of their choice courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide Foundation. The winner will be announced at the NFL Honors show on Feb. 6, and all 32 nominees will be recognized during Super Bowl week in New Orleans.

Cowboys nominate Zack Martin for 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

From @ToddBrock24f7: The decorated guard was surprised this week with news that he’ll be the team’s nominee for the league’s most prestigious individual honor.

As a nine-time Pro Bowler and a seven-time first-All-Pro guard, there aren’t may individual accolades left for Zack Martin to win.

But the Cowboys managed to find another line item to add to the 11-year veteran’s rĆ©sumĆ©, naming him their 2024 nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

The team surprised Martin with the news this week. What started out as a holiday photo shoot with the Martin family sitting around the Christmas tree turned into Zack, wife Morgan, and their three children opening customized jerseys that revealed his nomination for the league’s most prestigious individual honor.

Each of the NFL’s 32 teams nominate one player each season for the award that seeks to recognize commitment to philanthropy and community service as well as excellence on gameday. Among the other nominees this year are Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, Lions quarterback Jared Goff, Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner, and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Martin, 34, has long been active with organizations like the Salvation Army, the National Medal of Honor Museum, and various causes benefiting first responders, local families in need, and hospitalized children.

A panel of judges that includes Commissioner Roger Goodell, 2023 winner Cameron Heyward, and former NFL players will select this year’s recipient. The announcement will be made at NFL Honors on Feb. 6.

Quarterback Dak Prescott won the award in 2022. He was the fourth Cowboys player to be so honored, joining tight end Jason Witten (2012), quarterback Troy Aikman (1997), and quarterback Roger Staubach (1978).

Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence was last year’s Cowboys nominee.

Martin and the league’s other 31 nominees for this year will wear honorary helmet decals for the remainder of the 2024 season. The winner is traditionally recognized on the field during a pregame ceremony at the Super Bowl; he’ll receive a $250,000 donation in his name to the charity of his choosing and will wear a special uniform patch for the rest of his playing career.
