Chiefs nominate DB Trent McDuffie for Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award

The Kansas City Chiefs selected DB Trent McDuffie to be their nominee for the prestigious Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs nominated second-year star defensive back Trent McDuffie for the 2023 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award on Wednesday ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

McDuffie has been a leader on Kansas City’s defense all season, rising to stardom as a lynchpin of the team’s budding young secondary.

According to the statement issued by the Chiefs on Twitter, the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award “is presented each year to a player who demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship — including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.”

The Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award was first won by Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald in 2014. The winner for the 2022 season was Calais Campbell, who was nominated by the Baltimore Ravens.

McDuffie certainly seems like a great fit to win the prestigious award but will have to beat out 31 other nominees from other teams around the NFL.

Expect to hear more about the promising young defender’s candidacy later in the 2023 season.

James Winchester named Chiefs’ Salute to Service Award nominee

Long snapper James Winchester was named the #Chiefs’ Salute to Service Award nominee for the 2023 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs named long snapper James Winchester as their Salute to Service Award nominee on Wednesday, opening the door for the long-tenured special teamer to add another accolade to his impressive resume.

The two-time Super Bowl champion has become a fan-favorite since signing with Kansas City back in 2015 and has been a key contributor to special teams coordinator Dave Toub’s game plans for the better part of a decade.

According to the NFL, the Salute to Service Award, which is presented by USAA, “recognizes NFL players, coaches, staff and alumni with proven commitment to honoring and supporting military and veteran communities, as nominated by NFL clubs.”

Winchester’s participation in community service with the Chiefs is well-documented, and his affinity for working with veterans makes him an ideal fit for nomination for such a prestigious award.

Fans are encouraged to vote for the veteran long-snapper to increase his chances of winning the coveted decoration.

The Seattle Seahawks have announced quarterback Russell Wilson as the team’s nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

The Seattle Seahawks made a very important announcement Thursday morning, nominating quarterback Russell Wilson as the team’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.

The prestigious honor recognizes an NFL player for “outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field.”

Each team around the league can nominate one player for the award.

Wilson is widely known for his philanthropic and charitable efforts, especially through his Why Not You Foundation and weekly visits to Seattle Children’s Hospital.

“It’s been really important for Ciara and me, especially with everything that’s happened in 2020, to step up and try to make a difference in areas like racism, social injustice, and food insecurity and to be able to impact a family that is facing tough challenges,” Wilson said via the press release.

“Since I got here in 2012, I understood there was an opportunity to use my platform to love, serve, and give back,” Wilson continued. “That’s been one of the core principles of life that my parents taught me. It’s a principle that Ciara and I want to be able to teach not only our kids, but their kids one day.”

New Orleans Saints running back Latavius Murray was chosen as the team’s nominee for this year’s Salute to Service Award presented by USAA, the NFL announced this week.

Murray’s nomination owes to his continued appreciation for the American military, informed by the experience of his fiancée and childhood friend Shauntay, a 13-year U.S. Navy veteran, and which he’s shown through volunteerism and fundraising to support service members and their families.

Here’s some details about Murray’s nomination, from an NFL press release:

“Murray said he’s been able to see characteristics that help military members accomplish their jobs overlap with elements that help in football. The up-close view of commitment, sacrifice and unselfishness has inspired Murray to do more to support military members and their families. He has participated in a USO Tour to visit troops serving in Germany and Italy. Additionally, Murray become the second NFL player to ever serve as an ambassador for the United Heroes League. United Heroes League provides sports registration fees and equipment for children in military families. Murray said his goals for the ambassador position are to increase awareness, help raise funds and show that the people that are actually involved truly care.”

Finalists for the tenth annual Salute to Service Award will be announced in January, with the winner decided at the upcoming NFL Honors celebration prior to Super Bowl LV. So stay tuned to see if

Notre Dame Football: Tight End U Product Up for Man of the Year Award

But it’s something much bigger than football that has Kyle Rudolph in the headlines this week.

Kyle Rudolph was one of many Notre Dame tight ends in recent memory to go from playing under the golden dome to playing on Sunday.

Since his NFL career began in 2011 he’s caught more than 420 balls for over 4000 yards and 47 touchdowns. He’s been a mainstay with the Minnesota Vikings for almost a decade now and will be headed to the playoffs this January for the fourth time in his career.

But it’s something much bigger than football that has Kyle Rudolph in the headlines this week.

As successful of career as he’s had, snagging first down and touchdown receptions like they’re going out of style, Rudolph may very-well go down being remembered more for his contributions off the field, which is saying something because he’s one helluva football player, too.

Rudolph was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for the third time in his career this past Thursday.

I have no doubt if we were to examine the nominees from all 32 teams we would find 32 inspiring stories worthy of praise.

But since this websites name is Fighting Irish Wire, why don’t we take a look at exactly what Rudolph has done to again earn a nominee.

Here is the video the Vikings came up with last season. Honestly if he didn’t win it after this I don’t know how he ever will but it’s that good so take the seven or so minutes and watch this:

Then here is the video they used this year – clearly an incredible job using his platform to better the cause for the less fortunate.

Every nominee will receive up to $50,000 for a charity of their choice will the eventual winner will receive $250,000 to go to their desired charity.

For information on all 32 nominees you can check out the NFL website who has compiled all of the information.

The winner will be announced at the NFL Awards Show on the eve of Super Bowl LIV.
