Jayden Daniels wins Walter Camp National Player of the Year Award

Jayden Daniels was also named the Davey O’Brien Award winner on Friday night.

[autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] continued to add to his list of hardware on Friday night, receiving the 2023 Walter Camp National Player of the Year Award.

Daniels also won the Davey O’Brien Award as the top quarterback in the country, and he’s a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, which is given to the best player in college football. He was also a finalist for the Maxwell Award, but that was ultimately given to Washington’s Michael Penix.

Jayden Daniels leads the nation in total yards per game and touchdowns, as well as quarterback rating. He’s the betting favorite to win the Heisman, and he’s now viewed by some as a possible top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Follow along as we wait to see if Daniels wins the ultimate prize on Saturday night.

Jayden Daniels named a finalist for Walter Camp Player of the Year Award

Jayden Daniels could receive quite a few honors next month.

LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] has been named a finalist for the Walter Camp Foundation Player of the Year Award, given to the best player in college football, regardless of position.

Daniels could collect quite a bit of hardware during award season as he is also a finalist for the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards. There’s also a decent chance he will find himself as a Heisman finalist, but he will have to find out next weekend whether that will be the case.

He’s pacing the nation right now in quite a few offensive stats including touchdowns, of which he has 50. Daniels appears to be neck-and-neck with Bo Nix in the Heisman race.

The winner of the Walter Camp Award will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 10.

Jayden Daniels a semifinalist for Walter Camp Award

Jayden Daniels is one of the 10 semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] has been named a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. He’s one of 10 semifinalists for the award, which is given to the best player in college football, regardless of position.

The three finalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 28 with the winner being announced at the College Football Awards on Dec. 8.

Daniels has had a phenomenal season and finds himself squarely in the Heisman race as he leads FBS quarterbacks in most offensive categories except for passing yards per game, in which he ranks second. He’s coming off an eight-touchdown game in which he matched Joe Burrow’s single-game SEC record.

Daniels has one more chance to add to his award resume as LSU hosts Texas A&M to close out the regular season on Saturday morning.

Triple-(Howard)Cross: Notre Dame’s defensive tackle get’s two more national awards

Thrice as nice for Cross this week

It was quite a weekend for [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] defensive tackle [autotag]Howard Cross[/autotag], as he terrorized the Duke offense on Saturday night.

The senior was dominant, racking up 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, a sack and two forced fumbles, which already earned him the Reese’s Senior Bowl defensive player of the week.

It didn’t end there for Cross, as on Tuesday we found out that two more outlets named him as their defensive player of the week.

The [autotag]Chuck Bednarik Award[/autotag] also named Cross their top defensive player from the past week making it two big time collegiate awards giving the Irish defense tackle some recognition.

It didn’t end there, however, as Cross was also named the [autotag]Walter Camp Award[/autotag] defensive player of the week.

It was a week that Cross won’t forget and hopefully the start of a huge finish to his Notre Dame football career.

Clemson LB, Trotter Jr., named to Walter Camp Watchlist

Junior linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has been named to the Walter Camp Award watchlist, which goes to the best overall College Football Player.

Junior linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has been named to the Walter Camp Award watchlist for the best overall College Football Player.

Trotter is now part of a list of 44 players, including six defensive players. Other Atlantic Coast Conference players on the list are Verse, Jordan Travis from Florida State, and Drake Maye from North Carolina.

Last season, Trotter was a second-team All-American and played a vital role in Clemson’s formidable defense. He topped the team in tackles, tackles for loss, and was tied for the most sacks. Trotter has been named to three preseason watchlists: the Bronko Nagurski, Butkus, and this latest one. Trotter’s father, Jeremiah Trotter Sr., is an NFL legend who played for 11 seasons and earned four All-Pro selections.

Since 1967, no player from Clemson has won the Walter Camp Award. Deshaun Watson was a finalist in 2016, and Trevor Lawerence was a finalist in 2020.

Notre Dame has two players on Walter Camp Award preseason watch list

The Irish place two on the preseason watch list for one of the most prestigious awards

The [autotag]Walter Camp Award[/autotag] is given annually to the best football player in college and [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] had two of their stars named to the preseason watch list.

It should come as no surprise which two members of the Irish squad were on the list, offensive tackle [autotag]Joe Alt[/autotag] and quarterback [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag]. An argument can be made for running back [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] to be on the list as well, but as the website states, being on the watch list is not a requirement to win the award.

The last time a member of the Notre Dame football team took home the Walter Camp Award was in 2012 when linebacker [autotag]Manti Te’o[/autotag] was the winner.

Ohio State with four players named to Walter Camp Award watch list

Just four?!? That’s a lot of scarlet and gray on the list. #GoBucks

It’s safe to say that the [autotag]Walter Camp Award[/autotag] is extremely high on [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] players entering the 2023 season.

Why is that? Well, it announced its preseason watch list of 45 total players, and the Buckeyes have four of those, the most for any one school in the country.

If you didn’t know, the award is given annually to the best player in the country as judged by the Walter Camp Foundation. Last year USC quarterback [autotag]Caleb Williams[/autotag] took home the honors. The last Ohio State player to win the Walter Camp Award was quarterback [autotag]Troy Smith[/autotag] in 2006, who also took home the Heisman also.

Find out below which four Buckeyes made their preseason watch list.

Jayden Daniels, Harold Perkins named to Walter Camp Award watch list

LSU is anchored by a pair of talented players in 2023.

Entering the 2023 season, LSU appears to be anchored by a pair of budding superstars on each side of the ball in [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag].

Both were named to the preseason watch list for the Walter Camp Award — given annually to the national player of the year in college football — on Friday.

Daniels is entering his second year at LSU after transferring in from Arizona State. He had a huge first season as a starter, especially on the ground, and he’ll look to take another step forward as a passer this fall.

Perkins, meanwhile, was an impactful player as a talented but raw freshman edge rusher, and now his role has expanded as he’s working at inside linebacker and will likely play off the ball quite a bit.

These two players are key to LSU’s expectations for the season, which include repeating as champions of the SEC West and competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Notre Dame players named to preseason award watch lists

Will anyone win this year?

It’s the time of year when we start seeing award watch lists come out in anticipation of the college football season. With Notre Dame expected to be highly ranked once again, there are plenty of players who are ripe for watching. Whether or not any of them actually take home any of this hardware is anyone’s guess right now, but they’re at least on the radar of those who know college football best.

In some cases, more than one Notre Dame player is on the watch list for the same award. Also, as different award watch lists come on different days, it can be difficult to keep track of them all. Rest assured, we will be doing just that as these lists continue to come out.

At season’s end, we’ll find out if any of them or maybe somebody different becomes the first national award winner for the Irish since [autotag]Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah[/autotag] won the Butkus Award in 2020:
