4-star OL Waltclaire Flynn Jr. announces commitment date

Four-star Grayson High School standout Waltclaire Flynn Jr. plans to commit on July 2. Who is in the mix for the Peach State OL?

The Georgia Bulldogs are hot on the recruiting trail. Kirby Smart and Georgia just added a commitment from five-star class of 2024 quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Now, Georgia is looking to add more pieces to the class of 2024. There are a lot of quality recruits in the Peach State in the 2024 cycle. One of the top in-state recruits is four-star offensive line prospect Waltclaire Flynn Jr.

Flynn Jr. plays high school football for Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. The four-star is the No. 245 recruit in the class of 2024. Waltclaire Flynn Jr. is the No. 15 player at his position and the No. 33 recruit in Georgia.

The Grayson standout plays against a high level of competition. Flynn Jr. plans to play in the 2024 All American Bowl on NBC.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound offensive lineman has taken recent visits to Penn State, UCF, Tennessee, and Georgia. Flynn Jr. is also strongly considering Texas A&M.

The talented offensive guard recruit announced his commitment date of July 2 via Twitter:

2024 4-star OL Waltclaire Flynn Jr. will officially visit Texas A&M on June 16

Texas A&M has their calendars set for June 16th, as 2024 4-star OL Waltclaire Flynn Jr. is set to officially visit College Station this summer

Texas A&M’s focus in the trenches within the 2024 recruiting class is just plain smart, knowing that a number of upperclassmen on the 2023 roster on both the offensive and defensive line will experience attrition the following season, so preparing for the future is vital, to say the least.

With a focus on the interior of the offensive line, head coach Jimbo Fisher offered the versatile 2024 4-star OL Waltclaire Flynn Jr. back on March 5, and after taking an unofficial visit to College Station just a day prior on March 4, Flynn announced on Wednesday that he will be taking an official campus visit on Friday, June 16.

Flynn has set his commitment date for Thursday, Aug. 3rd, giving him plenty of time to take as many visits as possible in order to make the best decision concerning his collegiate future. From a rankings perspective, Flynn is presently ranked as the 14th interior offensive lineman, and the 29th-ranked player in Georiga, ahead of his final senior season at Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia.

Swinney Camp Notebook: Day 4, Morning Session

The Clemson Insider was back on hand for Day 4 of the Dabo Swinney Camp on Saturday, June 11. Here are our notes and observations from the morning session of Saturday’s Swinney Camp.

  • As expected, Woodland (Dorchester, S.C.) four-star tackle Kam Pringle was back on campus for an unofficial visit Saturday. Pringle didn’t participate in Saturday’s morning session. He camped at Clemson last summer and was among the first batch of rising juniors to pick up an offer when Clemson formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class.
  • Mountain View High School (Lawrenceville, Ga.) four-star defensive end Justin Greene — the nation’s No. 2 defensive lineman in the 2024 class, per 247Sports —impressed yet again. Greene will be here all three days and has certainly looked like the offer-worthy candidate we pinpointed him to be.
  • We were really impressed with the two marquee gunslinger prospects on campus: The Loomis Chaffee School’s (Windsor, CT.) Dante Reno and Hodgenville (Ky.) Larue County’s Cutter Boley.
  • Reno — a four-star class of 2024 recruit — has been on offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter’s radar for quite some time now. As has Boley — a class of 2025 recruit with offers from Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, West Virginia and others – who made an unofficial visit on April 8 and was back on campus Friday.
  • So, it came as no surprise to us when Streeter paid careful attention to every detail concerning Reno and Boley. Even with Clemson’s quarterback board shifting in the direction of Willis (Texas) five-star DJ Lagway and Providence Day School (Charlotte, N.C) five-star Jadyn Davis, that didn’t prevent Reno from throwing in front of Streeter and Swinney for the second consecutive summer.
  • It’s clear that Clemson is still high on the Fiskdale (MA.) native, who Rivals considers to be the No. 15 quarterback in his class.
  • We were also left impressed by what Grayson’s (Loganville, Ga.) four-star interior offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn, Jr. (pictured above) had to offer. Flynn isn’t the biggest prospect in terms of size, but his footwork, athleticism, smarts and instincts, immediately jump out. It’s no wonder that Rivals has him pegged as the No. 1 center prospect in the class of 2024.
  • Back out there for another day of work, Yulee (Fla.) three-star safety Landon Hale continues to look the part. All the tools are there and while his recruitment has seemingly heated it up, he would be one of the more sought-after safeties in the country, if he had another year of game film under his belt.
  • Before the start of Saturday’s Swinney Camp, Director of Special Teams Bill Spiers paid a lot of attention to Cornelius (N.C.) Hough 2024 kicker Nolan Hauser, who was back on campus today. Hauser’s coming off visits to North Carolina, Penn State and Tennessee, while Ohio State stopped by Hough at the end of last month. He’s quickly become one of the more high-profile kickers in the country and already has prior connections to the Clemson program.
  • TCI learned that both Troup County (Lagrange, Ga.) four-star edge rusher Qua Birdsong and four-star safety Noah Dixon will be on campus later this afternoon, Dixon reported an offer from the Tigers last week, while his teammate, Birdsong, is hopeful to add one as well.

Clemson will play host to big-time o-linemen this weekend

Clemson is set to host a few big-time offensive line prospects in the class of 2024 this weekend.

As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Woodland (Dorchester, S.C.) four-star Kam Pringle will be on campus this Saturday, March 12, and he confirmed that again via Twitter on Wednesday morning.

This will be a chance for Pringle to meet with Thomas Austin for the first time since the latter was named Clemson’s offensive line coach. Fortunately for Pringle, he has started to build a relationship with Austin, when he camped at Clemson this past summer.

“I definitely like Coach Austin a lot,” he said. “When I went up to camp, Coach Caldwell called the drills, he told people what to do, but, Coach Austin was the one coordinating everything. He made sure that he let Coach Austin get more up close with us than he did because I guess he already knew what he was planning on doing.

“Me and Coach Austin are definitely building a decent relationship. He’s definitely kind of Coach Caldwell-style. He played for Coach Caldwell, I think, and he’s coached under him. He knows how to put guys in the league and how to get O-linemen better.”

TCI also previously reported that Centennial (Roswell, Ga.)’s Daniel Calhoun will visit Clemson on March 12, and he confirmed that via Twitter on Wednesday morning as well.

Calhoun is rated as a five-star by Rivals, which considers him the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2024 class regardless of position.

Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) four-star Waltclaire Flynn Jr. also announced via Twitter on Wednesday morning that he’ll be at Clemson this weekend.

Flynn is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman and No. 50 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Elite Peach State OL recaps ‘really cool experience’ at Clemson

An elite prospect from the Peach State, who has a connection to Clemson, was back in Tiger Town this past weekend for another unofficial visit.

Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) 2024 four-star offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn, Jr. was in attendance for Clemson’s 30-20 win over Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Memorial Stadium.

Flynn recently caught up with The Clemson Insider as he returned to The Valley for the first time since he camped at the Dabo Swinney Camp this past summer.

“I was very excited to come to Clemson,” he told TCI. “The highlight of my visit was [Clemson’s] offensive linemen recognizing me and showing me love.”

The 6-foot-1, 290-pound Flynn is a high-priority recruit for the Tigers. 247Sports tabs him as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman and No. 51 overall prospect nationally in the 2024 class.

With that being said, what did Clemson’s coaches have to say when Flynn arrived back on campus?

“The coaches were just trying to catch up with me on some things and they told me they would love to have me back,” Flynn said.

As mentioned above, Flynn has been to Clemson before, but he’s never had a gameday experience quite like this one. He was a bit surprised to see 80,000 people come together in Death Valley, not because of Clemson’s record, but more so the size of the town.

“I was surprised at how many people came to support the Clemson Tigers in such a small town,” he said.

His connection to Clemson is through true freshman running back Phil Mafah, who also hails from Grayson High School. Flynn, along with three of his teammates from Grayson, got to see Mafah scamper for Clemson’s longest play from scrimmage this entire season — a 63-yard run.

“Clemson has always been one of my favorite schools, especially seeing how they treat Phil, my old teammate,” Flynn added.

Flynn certainly enjoyed his first game day in The Valley, but what was it that stood out to him about Clemson?

“Everything stood out to me on how they kept on fighting back against Florida State,” he said. “Having everybody on their feet, it was a really cool experience.”

Elite OL with Clemson connection has ‘very high’ interest in the Tigers

An elite prospect from the Peach State with a Clemson connection visited Tiger Town this summer and came away impressed by his experience on campus around the football coaching staff and players.

Standout class of 2024 offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn Jr. got a taste of Clemson’s family atmosphere when he participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp in June.

“What stands out to me at Clemson is their culture,” he told The Clemson Insider, “and they all have that family bond and they know how to take care of their players.”

Flynn attends Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.), the same school that recently produced Clemson true freshman running back Phil Mafah. The two have a tight relationship according to Flynn, who believes his friend will have a lot of success in his first year as a Tiger.

“Me and Phil are really close,” Flynn said, “and I feel like he’s gonna do really well this season.”

Flynn, a 6-foot-2, 275-pound sophomore, received positive feedback from Clemson’s coaches when he worked out at the Swinney Camp.

There is plenty of mutual interest between the Tigers and Flynn. While he doesn’t know exactly where things stand with Clemson this early in the process, he knows he is on the program’s radar and hopes to receive an offer from the Tigers down the road.

“They love the effort, energy I give off,” he said, “and I’m not too for sure where I stand in the recruiting process, I just know that they know me and have interest in me.”

“My interest level for them is very high,” he added, “and it’ll mean a lot to get an offer from them.”

Along with Clemson, Flynn visited Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Miami this summer. He already has offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Minnesota.

Flynn is ranked as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman and the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports. He was recently named a first-team preseason sophomore All-American by MaxPreps after helping Grayson win the Class 7A state title last year.

“How I would describe myself as an OL … I’m a nasty lineman, good listener, great finisher,” he said. “I shine best when I’m under pressure.”
