The Vols have the fifth-rated class in the Southeastern Conference, highlighted by several key players. Many of these players have been in action and are wrapping up their high school football seasons in the playoffs, however, some are in the midst of the regular season or are not playing due to COVID-19.

A few of these commits have had their high school football seasons delayed or canceled due to COVID-19, but many were in action last weekend as they near the end of their regular season or begins the playoffs.

Walker Merrill has big game in season opener for Brentwood

NOLENSVILLE — University of Tennessee football commitment Walker Merrill helped Brentwood High School notch a big road victory Friday night to open the 2020 high school football season.

Merrill, who committed to play for the Volunteers in March, had seven receptions and scored a touchdown in the Bruins’ 47-12 victory over Nolensville in the rain.

Merrill committed to Tennessee on March 31. At the time, he was the No. 11 prospect in the state and ranked No. 61 in the nation.

The three-star recruit also had offers from South Carolina, Vanderbilt, LSU, Duke, Wake Forest and Ole Miss.

Merrill posted his stellar performance despite battling cramps on a night when rain and storms played havoc with the high school schedule throughout the state.

BRENTWOOD — Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt has landed another in-state commitment for the 2021 recruiting class.

Walker Merrill a 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver, announced via Twitter that he had committed to the Volunteers on Tuesday.

Merrill, a junior at Brentwood High School, is a three-star prospect, is ranked as the 371st prospect in the country and the No. 11 prospect in the Volunteer State.

He chose the Vols after considering offers from South Carolina, Penn State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, LSU and several other schools.

The future Vol had narrowed his choice Tennessee, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.
