Walker Merrill has big game in season opener for Brentwood

A recap of Tennessee commitment Walker Merrill’s performance for Brentwood High against Nolensville.

NOLENSVILLE — University of Tennessee football commitment Walker Merrill helped Brentwood High School notch a big road victory Friday night to open the 2020 high school football season.

Merrill, who committed to play for the Volunteers in March, had seven receptions and scored a touchdown in the Bruins’ 47-12 victory over Nolensville in the rain.

Merrill committed to Tennessee on March 31. At the time, he was the No. 11 prospect in the state and ranked No. 61 in the nation.

The three-star recruit also had offers from South Carolina, Vanderbilt, LSU, Duke, Wake Forest and Ole Miss.

Merrill posted his stellar performance despite battling cramps on a night when rain and storms played havoc with the high school schedule throughout the state.
