Texas eliminates Lady Vols from the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

No. 2 seed Texas (24-5, 13-1 Big 12) defeated No. 3 Tennessee (26-5, 15-3 SEC), 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 16-14, Thursday in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, California.

Thursday’s loss ended Tennessee’s season.

Graduate student Morgaahn Fingall totaled 24 kills and six blocks, while Jenaisya Moore recorded 13 kills and 11 digs for Tennessee.

Redshirt freshman Caroline Kerr was Tennessee’s leading passer, recording a career-high 56 assists. The match represented the fifth time she totaled at least 50 assists this season.

Libero Makenzie Plante recorded a career-high 15 digs, while Raeven Chase totaled 12 kills and two blocks for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee advanced to the regional semifinals for the first time since 2005 and hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011.

Morgahn Fingall named AVCA Southeast Region Player of the Year

Tennessee graduate student and right side player Morgahn Fingall was named American Volleyball Coaches Association Southeast Region Player of the Year.

Fingall is the first Lady Vols’ player to earn regional player of the year honors. She was one of four Tennessee players named to the AVCA Southeast Region Team, joined by redshirt freshman setter Caroline Kerr, graduate student and outside hitter Jenaisya Moore.

Graduate student and libero Yelianiz Torres earned All-Region honorable mention.

Fingall is averaging 4.98 points, 4.29 kills, 1.85 digs, 0.77 blocks and 0.30 aces per set this season. She also has a .326 hitting percentage.

Kerr is averaging 11.77 assists, 1.98 digs, 0.65 kills, 0.38 blocks and 0.31 aces per set this season.

Moore recorded double-digit kills in 22 matches this season. She had a career-high 23 kills and 16 digs against Florida.

Torres was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week thee times in 2023. She is averaging a team-high 3.96 digs per set. Torres is also averaging 1.01 assists and 0.30 aces per set this season.

No. 3 Tennessee (26-4, 15-3 SEC) defeated Western Kentucky (30-5, 16-0 CUSA), 25-20, 25-16, 26-24, in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at Food City Center.

The Lady Vols, who are competing in the Stanford quarter of the tournament bracket, hit .302 against the Hilltoppers and held Western Kentucky to a .221 hitting percentage.

Jenaisya Moore led the Lady Vols’ hitting attack, totaling 19 kills. She also recorded six digs.

Tennessee graduate student and right side player Morgahn Fingall recorded 11 kills, six blocks and one ace, while Keondreya Granberry had six kills and six blocks.

Caroline Kerr was the Lady Vols’ leading passer, recording 37 assists. Erykah Lovett finished the match with eight digs, two aces and one assist and Yelianiz Torres posted seven digs and two assists.

Morgahn Fingall named to SEC Community Service Team

Tennessee’s Morgahn Fingall named to the SEC Community Service Team.

Tennessee volleyball player Morgahn Fingall was named to the SEC Community Service Team.

During her five-year career with the Lady Vols, Fingall, a graduate student and right side player, has performed 60 hours of community service in addition to her success in the classroom and on the court. She volunteers at Lonsdale Elementary School, helping teach physical education classes.

She has also assisted with UT athletics department’s annual VOLoween night, which includes trick-or-treating at Tennessee’s athletic department complex, face painting and children’s games. Fingall was also a member of UT’s VOLeaders Academy, going on a service trip to Rwanda in 2022.

For two consecutive years, Fingall has been recognized as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is also a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Tennessee graduate student and right side player Morgahn Fingall was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week when the conference announced its weekly awards Monday.

Fingall was named the league’s offensive player of the week for the fourth time this season. The Lady Vols, who enter this week’s NCAA Tournament following one of its best regular-seasons in program history, had six players honored with a total of 23 SEC weekly awards.

Last week, Fingall finished with 6.50 points and 6.00 kills per set, leading the SEC in both categories. She also posted a .522 hitting percentage as she totaled more than twice as many attacks of any SEC player.

Fingall opened the week by totaling 20 kills against Mississippi State and posted her fifth double-double against of the season against the Bulldogs.

In the season finale at South Carolina, Fingall hit .467 and finished the match with 16 kills, four digs and two blocks.

The Lady Vols, a No. 3 seed in the Stanford quarter of the bracket, will open tournament play against High Point (14-0 Big South) Friday at 6:30 p.m. EST at Food City Center.

Tennessee is making its 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and is hosting tournament competition for the first time since 2011.

Tennessee is the No. 10 national seed in the tournament field.

The winner between the Lady Vols and Panthers, who won the Big South Conference championship, will advance to play the winner of the Western Kentucky-Coastal Carolina match, which will be contested Friday at 4:30 p.m. EST Friday at Food City Center.

Tennessee’s No. 3 seed represents the highest in program history. The Lady Vols earned a No. 11 seed in 2011. Tennessee will make its third consecutive tournament appearance and fourth under head coach Eve Rackham Watt. She was named SEC Coach of the Year Sunday.

South Carolina (11-16, 5-13 SEC) defeated No. 8 Tennessee (24-4, 15-3 SEC), 25-23, 26-24, 255-22, Saturday in the regular-season finale for both schools at Carolina Volleyball Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

The loss ended Tennessee’s eight-match winning streak.

Right side player and graduate student Morgahn Fingall totaled 16 kills, four digs and two blocks for the Lady Vols. She also posted a .467 hitting percentage in the match.

Jenaisya Moore recorded nine kills and two blocks and Raeven Chase finished the match with eight kills.

Caroline Kerr was the Lady Vols’ leading passer, as she accumulated 39 assists. She also recorded three kills and one ace. Mackenzie Plante totaled seven digs, two aces and one assist.
