‘FIFA 22’ review: Spectacular soccer action, but is it truly next-gen?

Next-gen soccer is here, or is it?

With the release of next-gen consoles, it often happens that gaming enthusiasts expect sports video games to be the ones to prove their technical prowess. That’s partly why FIFA 22 has been so anticipated by fans.

EA Sports had already provided a solid update to last year’s iteration, showcasing next gen’s muscles for the very first time. However, now’s the time to take full advantage of that potential, not only for aesthetics but especially for what matters the most – gameplay.

The game has been on point when it comes to spectacular action for a while now, while missing the point of what soccer is all about. Did EA nail it this time? Let’s have a look in our FIFA 22 review.

FIFA 22’s biggest risers and fallers: Whose overall rating changed the most this year?

Cristiano lost a point.

Soccer. The ol’ gridiron. A good walk spoiled. There’s the version that happens inside stadiums, and another manifestation, just as real to us at the moment, that takes place on our OLEDs. A symphony of deft right stick waggles, perfectly weighted trigger presses, and furious cutscene skipping that’s kept us enthralled in FIFA’s ecosystem for decades. Anyway, listen, the new one’s nearly out.

And that means a fresh chance to scrutinize the overall ratings and use EA’s player database as a bellwether for the form of world soccer’s elite. Not to mention giving us an irresistible chance to complain that a beloved player from our own team who, hand on heart, we know isn’t better than a 79 has failed to attain a 90-plus. Shelvey not rated as highly as Mbappé? Insult. Get it right EA.

So, then: this game’s biggest OVR risers and fallers. We’re using FIFA’s official FIFA 22 and FIFA 21 databases, and taking the latest values from 21 – so although the likes of Lacroix jumped from 66 to a 79 based on his first appearance in FIFA 21, in actuality he’s currently a 78 in last year’s game so it’s only a one-point increase.

Claro? Claro. Bring out the players!

Watch: Hilarious ‘Halo Infinite’ glitch spawns hundreds of wet floor signs

Careful not to slip if you’re in the multiplayer beta.

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer beta is in full swing right now, and players discovered an absurd glitch where wet floor signs multiply out of thin air. Yup, wet floor signs — spawning by the hundreds whenever a grenade explodes nearby.

Over on r/halo, user natdog806 was among the first to point out that something is seriously wrong with Halo Infinite’s wet floor signs. For whatever reason, tossing grenades towards these signs causes them to replicate until everyone playing is practically drowning in yellow plastic. I’ll likely never be able to spot one of these signs in the real world again without smirking a bit.

Check out the wet floor sign glitch for yourself below.

So many floor signs from halo

It seems to be a common bug as well, considering Reddit user Rough-many-4308 encountered it as well. This clip gives you a more wide-angle shot of the absurdity.

Just got the funniest bug I’ve ever encountered, I missed Halo Infinite from halo

Anyone worried that this might be a sign of Halo Infinite’s technical polish or lack thereof needs to remember that betas exist so development teams can address bugs before a game’s final release. So, for now, enjoy the wet floor sign carnage. It likely won’t be around much longer. Unless, of course, developer 343 Industries wants everyone to know the dangers of slippery surfaces!

The best memes about Chris Pratt voicing Mario in Nintendo’s upcoming film

Mamma mia!

There’s nothing like a surprise movie casting to generate hype for your upcoming film. Unfortunately for Nintendo, the headliner for their animated Mario movie has many scratching their heads.

As a joint project between Nintendo and Illumination (the studio behind Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets), an animated Mario film will be gracing the silver screen in North America on December 21, 2022. During Thursday’s Nintendo Direct, the cast list was revealed for the upcoming movie and features… Chris Pratt as Mario?

Yep, you heard that right, Pratt will be voicing the titular character for Nintendo’s upcoming Mario film. This is not a joke.

The cast of the upcoming animated Mario movie also features some incredibly inspired casting, such as Charlie Day voicing Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. However, for many Nintendo fans, the choice to cast Pratt as Mario when original voice actor Charles Martinet or Italian-American Danny DeVito were right there has many… quite confused.

One Twitter user, on the other hand, seemingly predicted this outcome well over a year ago somehow.

Here’s how the internet reacted to the news that Pratt will be set to voice everyone’s favorite video game plumber.

10 best indie video games to play right now

We skipped Minecraft and Among Us on purpose.

It’s true that some games don’t need the production scale of big-shot companies to become well-known among players. Behind many beloved titles, there is the hard work and dedication of an indie company.

We’re going through an indie games boom right now, so picking the best of the best is a hard and inevitably controversial task. Each of the following games has made a splash in the gaming community, but there surely is a ton of great titles that didn’t make it to our list. We also decided to skip some top-of-mind and ‘former’ indies like Among Us and Minecraft to focus on some true hidden gems.

With these caveats in mind, let’s have a look at some of the best indie video games of recent history.

‘Call Of Duty: Vanguard’ looks rough on Xbox due to awful graphical bugs

Exploding pixels everywhere!

If you’re planning to spend some quality time with Call of Duty: Vanguard during its multiplayer beta this weekend, know that the Xbox versions look pretty messy. All sorts of bizarre graphical issues are plaguing players on the platform, GameSpot  reported Thursday

These visual glitches range from blurred, staticky particle effects to full-on explosions of pixels, rendering the game basically unplayable. Developer Sledgehammer Games is aware of the issues and believes playing the game at a refresh rate of 120Hz is causing the problems.

“We have confirmed that the Xbox graphical error is solely based on the 120hz setting regardless of resolution,” Sledgehammer said in a statement on Twitter. “Thank you for your reports.”

A fix for these problems has yet to go out just yet, with loads of players still reporting these ghastly glitches. Take a look at a few examples for yourself below.

Pretty nightmarish stuff. However, it’s important to remember that the whole point of a beta is to report bugs like this so the developers can squash them in time for the actual release date. With Call of Duty: Vanguard not hitting storefronts until Nov. 5, there’s plenty of time for Sledgehammer to iron these kinks out.

Sports games really show you why the Switch is the most versatile console out there.

‘Metal Gear Solid’ creator Hideo Kojima wants to play ‘Deathloop’ even if it makes him sick

Motion sickness can be a total pain.

Deathloop is the talk of the town right now, and even Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding fame couldn’t help jumping on the hype train. Though he’s a little concerned that it’ll, well, make him motion sick.

Deathloop, the latest shooter from developer Arkane Studios, is all about high-flying antics and time travel. It’s the kind of game that’ll surely test your noggin as well as any spatial awareness issues you might have. Kojima, who’s known for mind-bending games himself, is eager to give Deathloop a try. The trouble is, he’s not sure he can handle its first-person perspective.

Deathloop. It’s a time loop game with an interesting system,” Kojima said on Twitter. “I want to play it, but it’s an FPS, and I’ll probably get 3D-sick. Hmmm.”

He went on to claim that beyond FPS games, loads of activities make him sick: swings, theme park rides, and even riding at the front of buses!

Check out Kojima’s comments for yourself below.

Many of Kojima’s peers and fans shared similar sentiments or tips on how to not hurl while playing Deathloop. Or they chimed in with a cheeky joke

Oh, and the official Deathloop Twitter account had some advice for Kojima too.

Hopefully Kojima can find a way to play, without getting nauseous, of course!
