Vanderbilt at Tennessee odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Vanderbilt Commodores at Tennessee Volunteers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks.

The Vanderbilt Commodores (3-8) make the trek east to the banks of the Tennessee River to take on the Tennessee Volunteers (6-5) in a Saturday afternoon contest at Neyland Stadium kicking off at 4 p.m. ET. We analyze the Vanderbilt-Tennessee odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Vanderbilt at Tennessee: Three things you need to know

1. Tennessee comes in having won four in a row for the first time since 2016. The Volunteers sport a robust defense allowing just 5.1 yards per play and 22.7 points per game. With the benefit of 14 interceptions, UT is plus-1 in the turnover margin. Finishing on the plus side would be a first for UT since 2015.

2. The Vanderbilt offense has struggled away from Nashville. The Commodores have averaged just 268 yards per game of total offense on the road. Vandy is 0-4 against the spread on the road.

3. Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano was let loose in UT’s last game (24-20 win at Missouri Nov. 23). Guarantano attempted 40 passes (more than double his per game average) and racked up 415 passing yards against the Tigers. Vanderbilt’s pass defense, however, has been solid. The Commodores have struggled in stopping the run, but the run game is not a UT strength.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Vandy’s scoring woes do not extend to recent meetings in this intrastate rivalry. The Commodores have won three straight against the Volunteers, and they’ve averaged 41.7 PPG in the process.

The Commodores are 1-7 ATS over their last eight games on natural grass; they are 7-15 ATS over their last 22 contests as an underdog. Tennessee is 4-1 ATS over its last five games at Neyland Stadium. Back TENNESSEE (-21.5, +105). Play a smaller wager than normal and then double back on any line change to -21 or lower.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 5-1 over UT’s last six games. It’s 5-2 over Vandy’s last seven. Those results and the playing styles are certainly regarded in the low figure here — UNDER 45.5 (-110). The Under is the lean, but it likely yields a pass unless the number hits 47.

Vols have ‘good week of practice’ ahead of Vanderbilt game

2019 Tennessee football: Week 14

KNOXVILLE – Tennessee will conclude its regular season schedule Saturday against Vanderbilt.

The Vols are coming off a 24-20 road victory over Missouri – a win that made Tennessee bowl eligible.

Ahead of the in-state contest with the Commodores, Jeremy Pruitt said his team had a good week of practice.

“We’ve had another really good week of practice here,” Pruitt said. “Our guys continue to work hard to improve. We definitely, this past week, had a physical game, so we’ve got some guys that are banged up. It’s been a great opportunity for other guys to get more reps. They’ve done a nice job of that.

“It’s the last home game for these 13 seniors and I can’t say enough good things about them and the way they’ve represented the university, this program, this team, themselves, their families. We’ve had a fantastic atmosphere the entire year with our fanbase, from the Vol Walk, running through the T, the crowd experience has been great. I just want to ask everybody, I know it’s Thanksgiving weekend, but this group of seniors have really bought in to what we’re trying to get done here at Tennessee, we want to send them out the right way. I know we’ll do that.”

Tennessee and Vanderbilt will kickoff at 4 p.m. ET and will be televised by the SEC Network.
