Ohio State’s basketball game against UT Martin up in air Tuesday based on further COVID-19 testing

We’ll know shortly whether the Ohio State basketball team can resume activities and play the next scheduled game on Tuesday. #GoBucks

By now you know the Ohio State basketball team is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak within the program. A flurry of positive tests resulted in the cancellation of the Buckeyes’ game against Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic Saturday and shut down team activities.

We’ve seen a lot of athletic events canceled both in college and the professional ranks as of late because of the surging COVID-19 cases here as of late, and this is just another example. We don’t know how long OSU will be out of pocket as it deals with getting in a more healthy state to resume activities and games, and that means the next basketball game against UT Martin on Tuesday is also still up in the air.

According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Ohio State will be undergoing another set of COVID-19 tests to see if it can play the game against the Skyhawks.

If Ohio State can’t play on Tuesday, it has a week break before the next scheduled game on the following Tuesday, December 28 vs. the University of New Orleans at home.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Recapping Lady Vols’ win over UT Martin Thursday

An eight-run fourth inning helped the Tennessee softball team overcome an early deficit and make short work of UT Martin Thursday night at Sherri Lee Parker Stadium.

No. 23 Tennessee defeated the Sky Hawks, 10-1, in five innings, however it was UT Martin that struck first as Kaitlyn Kelley hit a solo home run to give the Sky Hawks (5-2) a 1-0 lead.

It would not take the Lady Vols long to answer as Cailin Hannon hit an RBI triple that plated Kiki Milloy with the tying run.

In the third inning, Amanda Ayala homered to give UT (9-1) a 2-1 advantage.

Ayala added a two-run shot in the fourth to help the Lady Vols blow things open. Milloy also had a 2-1 blast in the frame. Madison Webber drove in another run with a sacrifice fly and Ally Shipman had a two-run single.

In the circle, Ashley Rogers was dominant after surrendering Kelley’s homer.
