This will be the USMNT’s 5th game since a thrilling World Cup run. In the previous 4 matches, the U.S. has drawn Columbia, lost to Serbia and defeated El Salvador and Grenada.

As for this matchup, it will be the inaugural Allstate Continental Clasico. While the USA will have a slew of young, fresh talent, players like D Sergino Dest and D Walker Zimmerman will be at this camp.

Mexico didn’t get to the knockout stage in the World Cup, scoring 4 points in 3 games. Since then, it has tied Jamaica 2-2 and beaten Suriname 2-0, both matches as part of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Mexico is bringing 2 forwards, neither of which have had a cap with the national team. Its 3 goalkeepers combine for just 5 caps as well, so inexperience is a very serious concern.

The USMNT has also won 3 of the last 4 matches between the 2 sides and has won the last 3 in a row in the United States. Considering its experience and recent success, back USA (+165).

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN UNDER 2.5 (-165).

All the experience for both teams comes from the backline. D Jesus Gallardo has 82 caps and D Nestor Araujo has 64. That will be the most experienced group for the road side, as it will be for the home side.

The USMNT won’t have many familiar faces as this call-up roster seems more primed to showcase the next group of talent for the USA. The USMNT played Wednesday and lost 2-1 to Serbia, striking first on a goal by F Brandon Vazquez, who was making his first cap for USA. They did have 9 more shots yet had 1 fewer strike on goal. USMNT dominated possession with 62%.

Colombia, on the other hand, missed the 2022 World Cup. Their last competition was March 29, a 1-0 win over Venezuela. While this also won’t be Colombia’s A team, they do have talent with Columbus Crew F Cucho Hernandez, who scored 9 goals in 16 matches and completed changed the Crew’s season last year. They will also be the far fresher side as the USMNT played Wednesday.

Prediction

USA 2, Colombia 2

LEAN DRAW (+225).

The USMNT showed a better-than-expected ability to get into the Serbian back line and get shots, but they struggled to finish. With so many players new to the roster, that should be expected. However, with 20 shots, they should be able to convert more against Colombia. Also, F Jesus Ferreira, who didn’t play Wednesday, should see time.

Colombia will have talent on their roster with Hernandez and talented LAFC F Chicho Arango. Both sides should be able to push forward, and with Colombia sitting 17th in the world rankings, they should present a challenge for the USMNT.

I expect to see some more of the USMNT more talented players like Ferreira, and at this value, a DRAW (+225) is how I’d play the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (+115).

The USMNT started D Walker Zimmerman Wednesday, and he is their best defender. They may opt to give D Sam Rogers more time along with potentially seeing M Paxten Aaronson. Players like Aaronson and Ferreira should bring pace while Colombia is going to have its own talented attackers.

Arango had 16 goals in 28 starts last season for LAFC. He can get into the final third with ease, and the combination of Arango and Hernandez could be trouble. Considering the talent that should be on display, back the OVER 2.5 (+115).

This will be the 1st action for the USMNT since it lost to the Netherlands in the Round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.

The Serbian national team didn’t escape the group sage of the World Cup, but they did make the 32-team tournament which says enough about their quality. They only managed 1 point in their 3 games, a 3-3 draw with Cameroon. Serbia sits 21st in the world according to FIFA’s worl rankings while the USA is 13th.

USA vs. Serbia picks and predictions

USA 1, Serbia 0

The value isn’t necessarily here to make this a full-unit play, but the USMNT is bringing some talented players to take on what should be Serbia’s 2nd-string team. Both countries will feature young, promising talent.

The USMNT will feature some consistent names though, especially in the defensive side with M Kellyn Acosta and D Walker Zimmerman at camp. With several forwards likely getting time and making their first start, especially the highly-anticipated first cap for Zendejas, the forwards could struggle to find much comradery.

Nonetheless, there isn’t much impressive about this Serbian roster, and I’d back the USMNT here to hold them without a goal.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-122).

Given the turnover from the World Cup rosters for both teams, it doesn’t make much sense to use those performances to justify betting the Under.

At the same time, that helps justify it as the USMNT has 13 players making their 1st cap which could bode poorly for stringing together qualify attacking sets. The drama surrounding the USMNT and management could also bring unneeded distractions to the club.

None of Serbia’s players were on their World Cup roster with 3 MLS players highlighting the roster. The talent won’t be there to consistently get through what should be a strong USMNT defense.

Considering all the new talent being put together on short notice, back the UNDER 2.5 (-122).
