Georgia football has the most NFL players nominated for sportsmanship award

The NFL recognized four former UGA football players on Thursday, the most of any other program.

Recently, the NFL announced the nominees for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, and four former Georgia football players made the cut.

Among the finalists were former Dawgs Nick Chubb (Browns), Matthew Stafford (Lions), Thomas Davis (Chargers), and Ben Jones (Titans). The award considers a players sportsmanship to opponents on the field as well as things like community service and impact.

The Dawgs had far and away the most candidates of any single college. In fact, the only other school that had multiple finalists was Alabama, as former players Julio Jones and Dalvin Tomlinson were finalists.

This recognition further proves the unparalleled level of activism and community reach that has been and continues to be preached in the Georgia program. Congrats to these Dawgs!

Georgia football injury report for UGA vs Auburn game

UGA football is banged up heading into the Georgia vs Auburn football game.

The No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs are coming off of a 27-0 smackdown of Missouri, as well as a massive win over Florida the week prior.  The Dawgs have been rolling with a three game win streak since the hiccup of South Carolina.

Approaching week 12 comes Georgia’s biggest game thus far, a chance to secure its 3rd straight trip to the SEC Championship.

Auburn is currently ranked No. 12 with a record of 7-2, 4-2 in SEC. Its two loss season is not to be overlooked as the Tigers lost close games at No. 10 Florida and No. 1 LSU.

Last weekend vs Missouri, Georgia won, but it came at cost. The Dawgs lost a few players to injuries throughout the game, but for the most part nothing looks too serious.

Here’s a look at the Dawgs injury report prior to the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

Probable: WR Lawrence Cager

Cager aggravated his shoulder last game and did not return.  The Dawgs leading receiver has been practicing this week and is expected to play on Saturday.  Having Cager against Auburn will be crucial, as he has become Fromm’s favorite target this season.

Probable: WR Tyler Simmons

Simmons’ shoulder has been bothering for a majority of the season but he should be good to go.

Probable: OL Cade Mays

Mays left the Missouri game with a hurt ankle but has indicated that he is fine.

Probable: CB Tyson Campbell

Campbell missed a significant chunk of the season with turf toe but played vs Missouri and said he felt great out there.

Former UGA football players predict score of Georgia vs Auburn

We asked former UGA football players for their score predictions for the Georgia vs Auburn game.

For No. 4 Georgia, it’s pretty simple. Win and you are in.

The Bulldogs face a tough challenge this Saturday against the No. 12 ranked Auburn Tigers, though.

This edition of The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry will be played in Auburn and will air on CBS.

Since 1892, the Dawgs and the Tigers have met 123 times, with 59-56-8.

With such a tough matchup ahead and so much on the line for Kirby Smart and his team, I wanted to hear from some former Dawgs who have played in the storied rivalry.

The Georgia Bulldogs are in Monkell Goodwine’s top eight schools. Goodwine is a four-star defensive end in the class of 2021. He plays at National Christian Academy and is from Fort Washington, Maryland.

Goodwine announced his top-eight a couple days ago via Twitter:

Georgia joins Maryland, Oklahoma, Penn State, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M in Goodwine’s top eight. The 2021 defensive end has a year plus to decide where he’ll attend college. Georgia offered Goodwine in January of this year.

Goodwine will potentially join Georgia’s three 2021 commitments. Kirby Smart and the coaching staff aren’t focusing on the 2021 class quite yet. They still have quite a bit of work left for the class of 2020. Georgia has sixteen commitments and several elite targets remaining.

This Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers will write another chapter in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry when they square off at 3:30 PM in Jordan Hare Stadium.

The Dawgs are coming off an expected trouncing of the Missouri Tigers, 27-0, while Auburn will be fresh off of a bye week.

This game figures to be won in the trenches, as the Dawgs have one of the nation’s best offensive lines and the Tigers have one of the elite defensive lines.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at how the teams stack up statistically.

Watch: Alabama football players react to finding out CFP rankings

Alabama football players were not thrilled with their position behind UGA football in the College Football Playoff rankings.

The College Football Playoff committee had a big decision to make in the latest edition of their rankings.

To value Georgia’s two good wins and one bad loss over Alabama’s no signature wins and one forgivable loss?

Ultimately, the committee placed Georgia at No. 4 in the rankings, meaning if the Playoffs were to begin today the Dawgs would be in.

Alabama checked in at No. 5. Some argue that the Tide should have been ranked at 4, some are fine with the committee’s decision and then there’s a decent sized portion of the college football community who actually think Nick Saban’s team is not even deserving of being the second highest ranked one-loss program.

Bama lost a close game to LSU, which is now No. 1 in the nation. The final score showed Alabama lost by five, but it really did not feel that tight throughout the full game.

Despite that, and the fact that Georgia has two top-25 wins to Alabama’s zero, Bama players were not pleased to find out they sit behind Georgia in the newest rankings.

Look: Chargers and Rams’ new stadium continues to take shape

The Chargers and Rams’ new stadium in Inglewood, California is really starting to come to life.

No, the Chargers will not be moving to London.

Owner Dean Spanos said Los Angeles is the team’s home, and they’re planning to be there for a long time.

It’s been almost three years since the Chargers moved to the L.A. area. The team has been playing in Dignity Health Sports Park, a 27,000-seat soccer stadium in Carson, as a temporary spot. But in 2020, they and the Rams will have their permanent home: SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

The $5 billion stadium complex is expected to be 3.5 times larger than Disneyland, and the stadium itself will seat 70,000 people. Spanos is hoping those seats will be filled with Chargers fans after failing to draw them to their current stadium, which has been overtaken by supporters of the visiting teams.

The crew that’s been hard at work to ensure that the Chargers and Rams have one of the best-looking stadiums in the league continues to make it all come to life before the grand opening in 2020.

Bye week drops Texans in Week 11 USA TODAY NFL power rankings

The Houston Texans dropped a couple spots over the bye week in the USA TODAY NFL power rankings for Week 11.

The Houston Texans took Week 10 off as they recovered from their trip to London to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 26-3 and also gear up for the last seven games of the season. As such, it had an impact in the power rankings.

According to Nate Davis of USA TODAY, the Texans dropped from No. 5 to No. 8 overall over their bye week.

If Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson can replicate fireworks from their 2016 college showdown, then Houston-Baltimore will be game of the week.

Compared to the rest of the AFC South, there are no other teams near the top-10. The Indianapolis Colts are at No. 14 after their loss to the Miami Dolphins, and the Tennessee Titans rose from a previous ranking of 24 up to 18 thanks to their 35-32 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jaguars saw no change as they still hold No. 20.

The Texans travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens at 12:00 p.m. CT from M&T Bank Stadium.

This week the Dawgs take on twelfth ranked Auburn in what should be a defensive battle. Barring a collapse, Georgia is heading to the SEC Championship Game to play Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers.

The full top-ten looks like:

10. Oklahoma

This Saturday when Georgia takes on Auburn, it will be No. 4 vs No. 12 on the Plains.

To date, Georgia has two signature wins over Florida and Notre Dame and will look to add a third this weekend, which would also clinch the SEC East for the third consecutive season for the Dawgs.

Florida ranked No. 11 while Notre Dame is sitting at No. 16

With Alabama losing to LSU, the big question was whether or not the committee valued Bama’s combo of no signature wins and a forgivable loss over Georgia’s big wins and a bad loss.

That question was answered tonight.
