Johnny Manziel, Florida football highlight new season of Netflix’s UNTOLD

New looks at Johnny Manziel, Florida football will highlight the latest season of Netflix’s UNTOLD.

The next season of Netflix’s sports-centric docuseries UNTOLD will return this August for its third season.

The ongoing project has focused on such subjects as former Notre Dame star Manti Te’o, the rise and fall of sports clothing company AND1 and tennis star Mardy Fish.

This season will feature three films involving some very recognizable faces in the sports world, including former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, actor-turned-boxer Jake Paul and sports doping scandal figure Victor Conte.

There will also be a four-part series centered on Urban Meyer’s tenure with Florida football titled Swamp Kings that will feature interviews with Meyer and former Gators like Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Major Wright, Brandon Siler and Ahmad Black.

The new UNTOLD projects will drop weekly this August on Netflix, with Jake Paul the Problem Child hitting on Aug. 1, Johnny Football on Aug. 8, Hall of Shame on Aug. 15 and Swamp Kings on Aug. 22.

The full synopsis for this latest UNTOLD season can be read below, courtesy of Netflix.

The critically acclaimed docuseries UNTOLD returns with Volume 3, a four-week summer event that pulls back the curtain on epic tales from the wide (and wild) world of sports. From boxing to football to doping scandals, these new stories go well beyond the headlines and upend what we thought we knew. Premiering weekly, each character-driven story hinges on candid, intimate first-person accounts from those who lived it – to reveal the grit, resilience, heartbreak, triumph and even humor beneath the sweat. Jake Paul gets up close and personal as he tries to transcend YouTube stardom to revolutionize the fight world. Johnny Manziel, the Texas A&M quarterback hailed as “Johnny Football,” burns bright until he flames out under pressure. Victor Conte and Balco spin a dark web that tangles up top athletes in a steroid controversy. And the story of the Florida Gators’ stunning rise and fall in college football from 2005 to 2010 – featuring Coach Urban Meyer and star players such as Tim Tebow, Brandon Siler and Brandon Spikes – is finally told in the definitive document of what really happened. Directed by Andrew Renzi, Ryan Duffy, Bryan Storkel and Katharine English.

Netflix trailer for documentary on Tim Donaghy scandal confirms the ex-referee’s involvement

Donaghy is in the trailer for Netflix’s “Untold: Operation Flagrant Foul.”

You don’t need me to tell you the story of former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, who infamously fixed games as part of a gambling scandal uncovered by the FBI.

It’s been told countless times, even by Donaghy himself, who was released from prison in 2009 after serving most of a 15-month sentence. And it’s going to be told again in a Netflix documentary coming out August 30. The trailer for that documentary was released Monday, confirming Donaghy’s involvement in Untold: Operation Flagrant Foul.

That’s right. The guy who illegally made thousands of dollars is probably getting paid legally to tell the story about how he made that illegal money. Check it out:

Hey, what can I say? The people who do the grimiest things often have the stories that attract us the most. And when it involves organized crime and illegal gambling, that’s almost a guaranteed hit.

Seriously though, for someone like myself, who didn’t read Donaghy’s 2009 book Personal Foul, this documentary could make for an interesting account of what happened – it even appears to involve his co-conspirators. If this is just Donaghy seeking redemption and forgiveness, then miss me. But if he’s truly honest and upfront, I’m here for it.
