Roundtrip flights for both the LSU and Alabama road games this year are being offered at a discounted rate for Razorback fans currently.

Most Southeastern Conference football venues aren’t driveable in a day from Fayetteville, and really most parts of Arkansas.

Ole Miss/Mississippi State is relatively easy for people in the central and eastern parts of the state, and Missouri is doable for people in northwest and north central Arkansas.

Arkansas plays in Oxford and Columbia this year, along with playing Texas A&M in Arlington, Texas.

Anywhere else? You’re probably road tripping.

That brings in Northwest Arkansas National Airport, commonly referred to as XNA, and they’ve decided to give fans a treat this fall.

They’ve added non-stop flights on United Airlines from XNA to Birmingham on Sept. 22, the day before Arkansas takes on LSU, with a return trip on the 24th.

On October 13th, there’s a non-stop flight on United to Birmingham one day prior to the Razorbacks facing the Crimson Tide, with a return tip on the 15th.

There is also an option for BYU fans to get a Delta flight from Salt Lake City to XNA on Sept. 15 and return to Salt Lake on the 17th before their Cougars visit Fayetteville.

United Airlines, PGA Tour collaborate to assist HBCU golf programs with travel expenses

“The United Airlines grant will impact our program’s ability to travel tremendously.”

One of the biggest expenses in golf, from the junior ranks to the PGA Tour, is travel.

The PGA Tour and United Airlines are joining forces to help golf programs at more than 50 Historically Black Colleges and Universities with travel grants to help teams get to tournaments across the country.

United will award the teams more than $500,000 in grants, divided equally among 51 programs. Each team will receive $10,000 in travel credits, which will help an estimated 250 student-athletes and their coaches fly to tournament sites that might have been previously out of reach.

“Removing barriers for HBCU students to have the same opportunities given to other collegiate athletes will open doors for countless young Black golfers to achieve their dreams and for HBCU golf programs to develop to their full potential,” said United President Brett Hart in a statement.

Winston-Salem University golf coach Charles Penny II, whose program was brought back for the first time in 10 years last year, said the team was able to play in only one fall tournament because it didn’t have enough money in its budget for more travel. He said with the United credits, the team will be able to play as many as four tournaments next fall.

“The United Airlines grant will impact our program’s ability to travel tremendously,” Penny said in a statement.

The Florida A&M men’s team and Bethune-Cookman women’s team are among the programs that will receive the travel credits. When the Edward Waters women’s team begins play in 2023, they will be able to apply.

United is the official airline of the PGA tour and was the first sponsor for the Tour’s HBCU Grant Program.

“We have made a pledge to help diversify the landscape of competitive golf and this collaboration between United Airlines and these colleges and universities will be a significant step towards leveling the playing field and enhancing the student-athlete experience along the way,” Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement.

Emmanuel Dennis led Brugge with two goals in the Champions League group stage, and will likely need to get on the scoresheet again in this match to give his team an advantage heading into leg two at Old Trafford.

Manchester United has flown through its Europa League group, with Mason Greenwood’s four goals in the competition pacing the Red Devils thus far. In a competition like this, Manchester United’s lineup will more or less decide how far it will go. With a chance to earn a Champions League place through the Premier League, though it isn’t a guarantee, United could push its chips into this competition, with the winner earning an automatic place in next year’s Champions League.

United lost 3-1 when it last traveled to Etihad Stadium in Nov. 2018, when Anthony Martial scored the visiting side’s only goal from the penalty spot. 

Martial missed Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur after he suffered an injury in the recent 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Friday that Martial could be involved in the derby, but wasn’t sure yet if he would start. 

Paul Pogba is still nursing an ankle injury and won’t return for United. Guardiola said in late November that it would be a miracle if Sergio Aguero regained fitness in time to be featured, while winger Leroy Sane and centre-back Aymeric Laporte remain long-term absentees for City.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is also a doubt, meaning Guardiola could retain Angelino at left-back after benching Benjamin Mendy in favor of the Spaniard during the recent 4-1 win over Burnley.

This will be Solskjaer’s first visit to Etihad as the United manager. He’s hoping to revive some of his side’s confidence in the backyard of its noisy neighbors. Prior to its loss at Etihad last November, United was unbeaten in three visits to this ground and won two of those.

Liverpool will relish the thought of third-place City dropping more points after the team recently drew 2-2 at Newcastle United, allowing Leicester City to establish breathing room in second place.

The mid-week win over the Spurs saw United climb up to sixth, going undefeated four league matches in a row for the first time this season. It also marked the team’s first run of more than two wins this term. That being said, the result against Jose Mourinho’s side was also its first win in four games. 

City has dropped just four Premier League points at home this season and is unbeaten in six at Etihad, but United hopes the derby occasion will give it the might to topple the hosts.

Tottenham boasts a perfect record in three matches under Mourinho so far, having most recently defeated Bournemouth 3-2 at home on Saturday. However, that was also the third time the team has conceded two goals in as many matches under the new coach. The Red Devils extended their winless run to three matches after drawing 2-2 at home to Villa on Sunday, the seventh time in their last eight games that they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet.

Lucas Moura scored twice when Tottenham thrashed United 3-0 in its last trip to Old Trafford in August 2018, when Mourinho was still employed by the latter. The North Londoners failed to score in four visits to the grounds prior to that, ending their drought in sensational style.

The Special One finds himself back in the away dugout, seeking what would be his 10th career victory against United in his 21st meeting. He’s only lost three times in those previous 20 clashes, twice while he was Chelsea manager and once at Inter Milan. Mourinho has traveled to Old Trafford on nine occasions and won in three of those—twice with the Blues in 2005 and once in March 2013 with Real Madrid.

United has lost once at home this season (three wins, three draws), while the Spurs clinched their first away league victory this term when Mourinho’s squad won 3-2 at West Ham in his debut.

Solskjaer is under some pressure to produce a win against his club’s former coach nearly one year after he took over at United, initially in a caretaker role. The Norwegian isn’t expected to have midfield star Paul Pogba back from an ankle injury until mid-December, while defenders Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are chasing fitness.

Mourinho appears to have had a rejuvenating effect on Dele Alli, who has scored or assisted in each of the three games and netted twice in the win over Bournemouth.

Reputations are on the line at Old Trafford when United seeks to fend off Mourinho’s soaring Spurs in what looks to be a vital fixture in the race for European qualification.
