Vikings to have home game in London in 2024

This will be the fourth game the Vikings will have played in London

The Minnesota Vikings are set to play in London for the second time in the last three years. The league announced on Thursday that the Vikings will be hosting a home game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the 2024 season.

The Vikings are 3-0 in regular season games in London. The last time the Vikings had a home game in London was the 2013 season where they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-27. They also beat the Cleveland Browns 33-16 in 2017 and the New Orleans Saints 28-25 in 2022.

Who the Vikings will play in London is currently a mystery and will be announced during the schedule reveal in May.

British billionaire Joe Lewis has been indicted “for orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme,” that alleges the Tavistock Group owner provided insider information to his romantic partners, personal assistants, private pilots and friends.

“None of this was necessary — Joe Lewis is a wealthy man,” said Damian Williams, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. “But as we allege, he used inside information as a way to compensate his employee or to shower gifts on his friends and lovers.

“That’s classic corporate corruption. It’s cheating, and it’s against the law. Laws that apply to everyone, no matter who you are.”

Tavistock Group is a private investment organization based in the Bahamas that was founded by Lewis in 1975. Included in Tavistock’s portfolio is English Premier League giant Tottenham Hotspur as well as golf communities such as Isleworth in Windermere, Florida, Lake Nona in Orlando and Albany in the Bahamas.

Leeds United vs. Tottenham Hotspur: How to watch, channel, time, lineups, live stream Premier League

Important battle between #THFC & #LUFC on the final matchday in the EPL on Sunday:

There’s plenty already decided ahead of the final day of the 2022-2023 season in the English Premier League.

But not everything.

Enter: Leeds United vs. Tottenham Hotspur. Both sides have a lot on the line.

[afflinkbutton text=”Watch Tottenham at Leeds” link=”https://imp.i305175.net/anKDxW”]

Leeds is playing for more: Life in the Premier League. They are in the midst of the relegation battle in 19th place with 31 points. But the Whites cling to hope and this would be the ideal time for “Big Sam” Allardyce to pull off his first win since his late-season appointment as manager.

A win and some help and Leeds stay in the Premiership.

Leicester, in a relegation spoit in 18th, also sit at 31 points. Leeds needs West Ham (14th) to win or draw against Leicester.

Then there’s Everton, the final club that’s currently safe, but one that still needs a result.

The 17th place club can’t move up the table at all. However, a win against Bournemouth (15th) and the Toffees avoid a stunning drop to the Championship if Leicester or Leeds win and Everton lose.

Plenty of help is needed for Leeds to stay up, but we’ve seen crazier things happen in the Prem.

Spurs will look to make it difficult for Leeds. It remains to be seen if this lifeless Tottenham side musters up much energy after lacking it often over the past month.

Spurs have fallen completely out of a European place. Currently in eighth with 57 points, Tottenham can still snag seventh and the EPL’s spot in the Conference League with a win over Leeds and if Aston Villa (7th) fails to get a win against Brighton (6th).

Adding even more chaos are the injuries for both sides. Top Leeds striker Patrick Bamford went off last week. Spurs will be down arguably their top-two defenders in Cristian Romero and Eric Dier–Both been ruled out by gaffer Ryan Mason.

And as if that wasn’t enough madness, the first time these two met this year was in the final game before the World Cup break… it was Spurs win in a chaotic 4-3 fashion.

Everton manager Sean Dyche savagely roasted Harry Kane’s toughness after a controversial red card

The red card was probably deserved, but some embellishment seemed clear.

Matters grew a little tense between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night. Early on in the second half, with the game knotted up in a 0-0 tie, Harry Kane and Abdoulaye Doucouré got into a little scuffle over a loose ball.

After Doucouré took exception to a Kane kick, Kane would accidentally grab hold of Doucouré’s jersey. The Everton midfielder did not appreciate this and took a swipe at Kane’s face, who then fell to the ground. In almost all cases, this would be a deserved red card and probably was here, too.

You can’t be out here unofficially taking swipes and fighting players in the middle of a game, you know?

But Everton manager Sean Dyche was parked right in front of the incident. And when asked about his reaction to Doucouré’s red card Thursday, Dyche had a sarcastic roast of what he clearly felt was embellishment from Kane:

PHEW! The note about Doucouré not having to apologize for leaving his team shorthanded aside … you can’t really “snap” an eyelash. In case it wasn’t obvious, Dyche is laying heavy on the sarcasm, even if the final result was a 1-1 draw.

Everton won’t meet Tottenham again until next season. We’ll have to shelve the next chapter in this story. If there is one.

WATCH: Time-lapse video of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium converting from soccer arena to NFL field

This is really cool to see. There’s a new time-lapse video from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium showing the venue’s conversion from a pro soccer venue to an NFL field, complete with seating changes and a total overhaul of the field of play. This is all being done ahead of Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings to help kick off Week 4 of the NFL season.

It’s not the Caesars Superdome, but nowhere else is. There’s something to be said for playing from one of the most iconic soccer venues England has to offer, though, and the Saints will be ready.

Saints kicker Wil Lutz told WWL’s Steve Geller that the change in venue isn’t an issue for him, noting that London stadiums are built to shield against the wind more than most of their American counterparts — Lutz says he was a spectator at a soccer match with 25 mile-per-hour winds whipping around outside, but he “didn’t feel a thing” inside. Hopefully it helps him improve on his kicks, having connected on just 3 of 6 field goal tries so far.

Saints to wear black helmets in London game vs. Vikings

The Saints announced their black helmets will debut in London against the Vikings. If they’re smart, they’ll dust off their throwback uniforms to go with the new lids:

We already knew that the New Orleans Saints will be introducing their new alternate helmets during the 2022 season, but now we know the game in which they’ll debut — Oct. 2’s kickoff with the Minnesota Vikings from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

What still isn’t clear is which uniform the black helmets will be paired with. Distressingly, all of the promo photos taken so far have Cameron Jordan modeling them while wearing his white-and-gold Color Rush uniform (but with black socks, which do not help), suggesting that may be the direction the team wants to take this. And that would be a mistake. While the black buckets may fit New Orleans’ overall color palette, they’d look so much better with matching black jerseys and pants rather than the Color Rush variants, which clashes with them.

So here’s me making the case for the Saints to dust off their black and gold throwback jerseys, which haven’t been used since a 2016 loss to the Detroit Lions; before that, they were worn in a couple of wins back in 2011. This international game (which is technically counted a Saints home game) is a great occasion to roll out a completely new look rather than try and mesh black helmets with white uniforms and ruin both of them. Let’s introduce some visual cohesion, yeah? It tidies up the color palette and brings in a cool message of merging the old (throwback uniforms) with the new (black helmets).

I get the impulse to go with alternate helmets and an alternate uniform, which led the Saints towards putting new black lids on their Color Rush set, but the throwbacks just bring a cleaner aesthetic with those new buckets. Here’s a very sloppy edit I threw together in Microsoft Paint of what that could look like, compared to the Saints’ take with their Color Rush jerseys. What do you think?

Saints expected to play 2022 home game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London

Saints expected to play 2022 home game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London:

Well that’s interesting: the New Orleans Saints are expected to play a 2022 home game in London during the upcoming season, as part of the NFL’s international series. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill first reported the news, clarifying that the game is expected to kick off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 62,850-seat venue hosted matchups between the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets as well as a Jacksonville Jaguars-Miami Dolphins tilt in 2021.

The Saints have made the trip to London twice before, playing both games in Wembley Stadium — and winning each time, defeating the then-San Diego Chargers in 2008 and shutting out the Dolphins in 2017. They’re undefeated in international play.

It hurts to see New Orleans lose a home game, especially after their 2021 season opener was relocated to a neutral site in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. But the good news is that the Saints will still have eight games to play in the Caesars Superdome in 2022 by hosting the Las Vegas Raiders as their seventeenth regular season matchup.

And the Raiders may be their opponent in London. NFL ownership voted in 2021 to expand the international series to at least four games each season; two will be played in London, with one game also being hosted in Mexico City and Germany, beginning in 2022. Each team will have to play a “home” game internationally once every eight years under this new setup, meaning the Saints won’t have to do it again until 2030.

They also agreed that these must be matchups between NFC and AFC teams. Of the Saints’ three AFC home opponents in 2022, that includes the Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Surely the NFL won’t make all the former Saints players and LSU college talent in Cincinnati have their Louisiana homecoming abroad, right? We’ll know for sure when the NFL schedule is released in mid-May later this spring.

Jose Mourinho storms off field after controversial VAR handball call denies Spurs win

Tottenham was denied a win after a controversial, late, VAR-assisted penalty call came against Eric Dier.

Tottenham appeared to be seeing off a 1-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday when a controversial, late, VAR-assisted penalty call gave Newcastle the tying goal, and sent Spurs coach Jose Mourinho storming off the field in disgust.

The penalty came on an extremely borderline handball call against Spurs’ Eric Dier, who jumped for a head against Newcastle’s Andy Caroll, and then had Carroll head the ball directly into his upper shoulder. Dier had no idea about it, as he was mid-air when the contact happened.

However, with his arm slightly away from his body, the new handball rules suggest that, intent be damned, that is indeed a penalty. VAR confirmed the controversial call, and Spurs fans lost it.

Here was the call:

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho then stormed off the field down the tunnel into the locker room, not sticking around to shake anyone’s hand (or presumably get a red card for screaming at the referee.)
