UGA vs UK: What Kentucky media is saying about Georgia

Here’s what Kentucky is saying about Georgia ahead of Saturday’s matchup…

It’s No. 1 Georgia (6-0) versus No. 11 Kentucky (6-0) this Saturday afternoon in Athens.

Georgia is coming off of a 34-10 over No. 18 Auburn and Kentucky, a 42-21 win over LSU.

The two SEC East foes have the best defenses in the league so far this season, but both teams are dealing with their own injury problems.

The Wildcats are missing two defensive linemen, and UGA is down even more starters than it was a week ago, as safety Christopher Smith and tackle Jamaree Salyer are questionable for the matchup.

Check out our updated injury report here.

Stetson Bennett is expected to start for the Bulldogs at quarterback, while Penn State transfer Well Levis will lead Kentucky against a dominant Georgia defense.

Georgia injury report ahead of UGA vs. Kentucky

No. 1 Georgia is once again dealing with key injuries headed into a big matchup…

No. 1 Georgia is certainly not at full strength headed into the top-15 matchup with No. 11 Kentucky this weekend.

The Bulldogs have been dealing with a multitude of injuries since fall camp and were down 12 players in last week’s 34-10 win at No. 18 Auburn.

Starting quarterback J.T. Daniels is still nursing a lat injury which has held him out since the second quarter of the Vanderbilt matchup on Sept. 15.

Daniels has been taking an increasing amount of reps each week, signaling a return in the near future.

Starting corner Ameer Speed (ankle) and running back Kenny McIntosh (hamstring) did not make the trip to Alabama, while receivers Jermaine Burton (groin) and Arian Smith (shin) didn’t see action versus the Tigers.

Preseason All-American left tackle Jamaree Salyer went down during the game with an ankle injury and safety Christopher Smith went out with a separated shoulder. Coach Kirby Smart said both could have returned if needed, but they have been limited in practice this week.

There is some good news, however, defensive back Tykee Smith covered kickoffs and played a few snaps at safety versus Auburn. It was the first time the West Virginia transfer took the field as a Bulldog.

Smart gave an update on the growing list of injured Bulldogs on Tuesday, including an optimistic take on the status of receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.

“…Ameer Speed doesn’t look like he’s gonna be able to make it back this week. Dom (Dominick Blaylock) still not back,” Smart said. “Rosemy I think looks good this week, he’s taken a lot of reps he’s been working like I said, I thought he looked good in warm ups the other day…”

“Jermaine Burton’s done well and worked, repped and he hasn’t taken the volume that he would normally take, but he’s hitting his speeds, so feel good about him. There’s so many I can’t even think of rest. Chris Smith’s been able to practice, he’s in a black jersey – he’s not contact right now – but he’s moving good, and staying in shape. Jamaree (Salyer) is kinda the same way, he’s conditioning and working out and watching the periods and I think he’s going to be good, but he’s not able to take all his reps.”

The Bulldogs have been able to play well without many of its star players, which is a testament to just how deep this team is in 2021.

UGA will face one of its toughest tests yet when the Wildcats come to Athens on Saturday afternoon. Here’s an updated injury report ahead of the game.

Georgia leaves Lexington with list of injuries headed into matchup with Florida

Georgia had several key injuries during Saturday’s game vs. Kentucky. Details and analysis here.

Georgia defeated Kentucky 14-3 in an ugly game in Lexington.

Star running back Zamir White was one of the bright spots from a mistake-ridden Georgia performance. He totaled 136 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs passing game was nonexistent behind quarterback Stetson Bennett, he completed 9 of 13 passes for 137 yards and two costly interceptions on drives that would have likely yielded points.

Georgia kicker Jack Podlesney had his only field goal attempt botched by a bad snap and to top the mishaps off,  star safety Richard LeCounte dropped a potential pick-six.

All of these aspects can be improved, but what is concerning is the fact that Georgia’s defense suffered some critical injuries ahead of its huge matchup with Florida next week.

Just take a look at the injuries here:

  • DT Jordan Davis (undisclosed)
  • DT Julian Rochester (undisclosed)
  • LB Quay Walker (undisclosed)
  • DB D.J. Daniel (ankle/foot)
  • DB Lewis Cine (ankle/foot)

Plus mike linebacker Monte Rice missed some time but would later return to finish out the game.

Let’s hope these guys can recuperate and be ready for the Gators, but Jordan Davis was in a sling on the Georgia sideline, which definitely does not look good for his chances to be ready next week. Truly a big blow as Davis is one of the most critical pieces of this Bulldogs front.

On a positive note, guys like freshman defensive tackle Jalen Carter and defensive back Tyrique Stevenson showed some great promise when they more got chances to play among all of the injuries.

We know the Bulldogs’ defensive depth is among the best in the nation and it will be tested by Kyle Trask and a Florida offense averaging 40 points per game.

Watch: Kentucky appears to fake an injury during 4th quarter Georgia drive

UGA was set to attempt a 4th down when a Kentucky defender appeared to go down as a tactic to slow the Bulldogs down. Watch it here

Georgia currently leads Kentucky 14-3 late in the fourth quarter, after some mistakes by the Bulldogs allowed the Wildcats to hang around.

Georgia was set to attempt a 4th down and 5 from midfield when a Kentucky defender appeared to lay down as a tactic to slow the Bulldogs down.

This is one of the most blatant fake-injuries I’ve ever seen.

Watch it here:

There should be rules to keep things like this from happening. I’m all for protecting players and promoting defense, but acting like you are injured to get an offense off the field is laughable and bad for the sport.
