SEC alters schedules, Georgia football to play Kentucky Oct 31.

See what Georgia’s new schedule looks like here.

Due to Florida’s Covid-19 outbreak, the SEC has altered Georgia’s remaining schedule, moving the Kentucky game.

The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 24, instead the Bulldogs will now face Kentucky on Oct. 31.

The news comes two days since the cancellation of Saturday’s game between Florida and LSU, after the Gators announced 18 scholarship players tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

Georgia was set for an off-week the week of Oct. 31, a week before its matchup with Florida Nov. 7, but with the schedule shift, the Bulldogs’ week off is now set for next week Oct. 24.

The SEC’s move gives Florida the next two weeks off before their matchup with Georgia in Jacksonville.

If the League is going to shuffle schedules like this every time a team has an outbreak, I wonder how far it goes before games are added to the end of the season, completely jumbling the entire conference-only schedule.

Make sure you’re caught up on Georgia football before tonights big matchup between No. 3 Georgia and No. 2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa! We break down the game and much more on this week’s episode of the UGA Football Live podcast, featuring special guest Keith Marshall.

Alabama insider talks UGA vs Bama

Crimson Tide insider Clint Lamb discusses the upcoming Georgia vs Alabama 2020 college football game and how UGA may be able to beat Bama.

[jwplayer 9vA2lszQ]

This Saturday, No. 3 Georgia (3-0) takes on No. 2 Alabama (3-0) in the biggest game yet of the 2020 college football season.

Georgia vs Alabama has provided some thrilling classics over the last decade, but the Dawgs are winless in the last five meetings. With the unfortunate absence of Nick Saban, who has coronavirus and will likely miss the matchup, Kirby Smart has his best shot yet at taking down his former team.

Though Ole Miss was unable to pull it off last weekend, the Rebels exposed plenty of weaknesses in Alabama’s defense.

So, if the Bulldogs are to beat Alabama on Saturday, how would they do it?

Clint Lamb of RollTideWire gave us some scoop on how the Dawgs could leave Tuscaloosa with a win.

“Georgia has, for the most part, dominated Alabama for a majority of the last two games. And despite an elite offense in the SEC Championship Game back in 2018, the Bulldogs were able to keep the Crimson Tide in check early. Really, it’s been a matter of finishing for Georgia. If they can establish themselves early and can finish, they’ll have a good shot on Saturday.”

It’s the No. 1 ranked offense (Alabama) versus the No. 2 ranked defense (UGA). But it’s also the No. 34 ranked offense (UGA) against the No. 66 ranked defense (Bama).

How will this play out?

“The Georgia defense is going to need to win and win often,” Lamb said. “Alabama will more than likely try to force the Bulldogs into being one-dimensional and forcing Stetson Bennett to beat them with his arm.

I believe Alabama’s defense matches up better against Georgia than it did against Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss offense. That means the Tide should have more success, but that shouldn’t be hard to do considering how atrocious they looked against the Rebels. Like I said, a lot is going to be dictated on whether or not the defense can force the Bulldogs to be one-dimensional.”

With Saban likely this week, Georgia’s chances of winning definitely improved. No matter how good your personnel may be, it’s hard to replace the greatest coach in the history of the sport.

“There’s a lot of concern amongst Alabama fans with Nick Saban potentially having to miss the game due to COVID-19,” said Lamb.

Acting as head coach for the game would be offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, which is a decision that leaves plenty of college football fans scratching their heads.

“Steve Sarkisian has plenty of head coaching experience, but he’s not the micromanager that Saban can be on game days,” Lamb said on the matter. “And when you’re trying to create a game plan to go against one of – if not – the best defenses in the country, you don’t want that guy having even more thrown on his plate.

For anyone who has paid attention to the last two match ups, they’ve been good games. The argument could be made that Georgia was the better team in both games. I wouldn’t say the Alabama fans are feeling confident to a point where it’s cocky or overconfidence. It’s just a belief that Alabama has a good chance to win.”

For Stetson Bennett, a guy who was the fifth string quarterback at Georgia just a few months ago, he’s proven to be one of the calmest, coolest quarterbacks Georgia’s had in awhile. He’s played just fine and has done everything asked of him, but now he faces Alabama. In Tuscaloosa. That’s a tall order that even the “Mailman” himself may not be able to deliver.

Nick Saban’s defenses have been exposed over the years in the passing game, but as Lamb points out it’s been against some of the best to come through the conference this century.

“I believe Alabama likes its chances if the game is forced onto Bennett’s shoulders,” Lamb mentioned. “That’s not meant as a knock towards Bennett either, as he’s a respectable quarterback who still has plenty of unknowns. But it has typically taken elite play at the quarterback position (for four quarters) to beat Alabama. Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton and even Stephen Garcia for that one game are all perfect examples.

Can Bennett be that guy? It’s a question that might need to be answered.”

Prediction of how this game plays out?

“It would be foolish to predict a blowout. Well, as long as the Alabama offense and Georgia defense can reach a stalemate like we all believe it will. If one is able to assert its dominance over the other, things could get ugly. But there are too many unknowns at play, one being the emotional factor for both teams, to know exactly how this is going to play out.”

Georgia – Alabama: What Alabama media is saying about Georgia ahead of Saturday’s top-3 matchup

Here is what Alabama media is saying about the Bulldogs ahead of Saturday’s top-3 matchup.

No. 3 Georgia is set to face No. 2 Alabama this Saturday in Tuscaloosa, barring any postponement or cancellation as Alabama head coach Nick Saban has tested positive for Covid-19.

We will have updates here as things develop, but right now – Saturday’s top-3 matchup – a battle for king of the SEC – is still on, just with Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian at the reigns for the Tide.

Alabama is coming off of a 63-48 win at Ole Miss, which featured the most prolific offensive performance in SEC history.

There was a combined 1,317 yards of offense, and the 111 points scored set the record for the most points scored in a regulation-game in League history.

Alabama’s offense won’t have it as easy this week. Georgia looks like the best defense in the country and its possibly the best unit the Bulldogs have ever had.

Here is what Alabama’s media is saying about Georgia:

The history behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs – by Hannah Stevens – Roll Tide Wire

So far this season, Bennett has recorded a total of 685 passing yards for 5 TDs. This game against Alabama will be a statement game early on in the season to show what they’re capable of this season in the SEC, and if they are truly a playoff contender.

Betting odds swing to Georgia football after Alabama’s Nick Saban positive for COVID-19 – by Erik Hall – Tide Sports

“If you ever wondered how much impact Alabama football head coach Nick Saban has on his football team’s success, we got an answer Wednesday afternoon. According to sportsbooks, it’s about two points. The betting line on nearly every sportsbook swung toward the Georgia Bulldogs after Wednesday afternoon’s news that Saban and Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne both tested positive for COVID-19.”

Kirby Smart explains what makes Alabama different – by Michael Casegrande – AL.com

“Smart was also quick to downplay the impact of Georgia’s two close losses in the January 2018 national title game and December 2018 SEC title game. There’s been considerable roster turnover since then, he noted.”

Top Three Questions Facing The Tide Ahead of The Georgia Game – by
James Ludemen – Tide 100.9

“Quarterback Mac Jones has been nothing short of spectacular this season. Against Ole Miss, Jones led the Tide to eight consecutive touchdown drives and threw for 417 yards. For the first time this season, Alabama will face a dominant defense. If Georgia can force some turnovers from Jones, it could be a long night in Tuscaloosa for the Tide.”

Georgia TE Tre’ McKitty could be a matchup nightmare for the SEC

Georgia football TE Tre’ McKitty is coming off his first game back from injury and could be a serious matchup nightmare for SEC defenses.

Georgia tight end Tre’ McKitty, who transferred from Florida State this offseason, left the field during preseason with a minor knee injury that required him to undergo arthroscopic surgery.  The injury was very minor and now McKitty is cleared and back for good.

McKitty played his first game in a Bulldog uniform this past Saturday against Tennessee.  The 6-foot-5, 245 pound Wesley Chapel, Florida native made some big plays in that game against the Volunteers.  In the Dawgs’ 44-21 win, McKitty caught two balls for 47 yards.

Georgia is now starting to put together a seriously dangerous receiving corps.  With George Pickens, Kearis Jackson, Demetris Robertson, freshman Jermaine Burton and now McKittty, the Dawgs could be a problem for opposing secondaries this season.

McKitty averaged 23.5 yards per catch last week and is about to make a big splash in SEC football play.  At Florida State, McKitty didn’t get many reps his freshman year but during his sophomore and junior seasons he caught 49 passes for 497 yards and two touchdowns.  He averaged 10.4 yards per catch in his time at FSU before making the transfer to Georgia.

Look for McKitty to play a pivotal role in the Dawgs’ offensive scheme this year and become Stetson Bennett’s new favorite target.

Alabama HC Nick Saban tests positive for COVID-19

BREAKING: Alabama head coach Nick Saban tests positive for COVID-19, what that means for Georgia football.

Breaking news has come out of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Alabama football head coach Nick Saban, as well as Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne have tested positive for COVID-19, per ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi.

This is a major shakeup for the college football world as Georgia was scheduled to play the Crimson Tide this Saturday in a heavyweight showdown.

Reports say that both Saban and Byrne left the facility immediately and are now quarantining in their homes.  Saban announced that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will act as head coach while Saban works from home.

“I found out earlier this afternoon that I had tested positive for COVID-19. I immediately left work and isolated at home. At this time, I do not have any symptoms relative to COVID,” Saban released in his statement today. “I informed our team of my positive test at 2 p.m. today on a Zoom call and let them know offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will oversee preparations at the complex while I work from home.”

There have been positive player tests at Ole Miss, who Alabama beat last week, and the SEC has already bumped two games this week due to COVID-19 outbreaks.  The Missouri vs Vanderbilt game and the Florida vs LSU game will both be played the week of December 12 due to positive tests at Florida and Vanderbilt.  Nineteen players tested positive for Florida.

No statements have been released on the status of Saturday night’s game between Georgia and Alabama.

Kirk Herbstreit makes SEC Championship Game predictions

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit makes his precision for the 2020 SEC Champion Game.

The SEC revealed its schedule for the 2020 college football season on Monday night.

Following the schedule reveal, predictions came rolling in from some of the more prominent analysts in the world of college football.

One of those being ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, who made his prediction for the SEC Championship Game this December.

Herbstreit projects another Georgia vs Alabama showdown in Atlanta this year, he said on the SEC Network.

“I felt Alabama would be the team in the West,” he said. “I love LSU and Coach O, but I think they lost a lot there, so I would favor Alabama, even though that schedule looks tough. I would put Georgia. I was sneaky wanting to pick Florida with all the Georgia hype, but that (Florida) schedule makes me nervous. I have Georgia and Bama with Bama prevailing and winning the SEC.”

This would be a rematch of the upcoming October 17 matchup between the Tide and the Dawgs in Tuscaloosa.

CFN predicts outcome of Georgia vs Alabama

College Football News predicts the outcome of Georgia vs Alabama in September.

Georgia vs Alabama will be one of the most anticipated games of the 2020 college football season, and certainly the biggest matchup in September among all FBS games.

If Georgia wins this game, the Dawgs might jump all the way to No. 1 in the rankings…they’d certainly deserve to. But a loss is not the end of the world for UGA either. Play the Tide close and Georgia will earn America’s respect. If we get blown out like we have in recent years on the road vs SEC West teams, Kirby Smart will have to run the table the rest of the way if he wants to get back to the College Football Playoff.

Pete Fiutak of College Football News previewed the September 19 game in Tuscaloosa, and gave reasons on why both Georgia and Alabama can win this game.

Why Georgia Will Win

Via Fiutak:

The defensive front seven should be in place to hold up against the pounding that Alabama is going to try to apply.

The Bulldog secondary, though, will be the strength early on.

It’s going to be one of the nation’s best defenses after getting dates against Virginia and East Tennessee State to tune-up.

To see Fiutak’s reasons for why Alabama will win, click here.

In the end, Fiutak has Alabama winning in a close battle, which would be ok with most Georgia fans. The playoff committee would have to gain a lot of respect for these Dawgs if they play the mighty Tide like that on the road.
