UGA basketball steamrolled by ASU, 79-59

It was a disappointing effort from the Dawgs in the desert.

On Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs basketball team took on the Arizona State Sun Devils in their first true road game of the season and will leave the desert with a 79-59 loss.

It was a frustrating game all around for the Dawgs, as they only shot 35% percent from the field and made just two of their 24 three-point attempts. Star shooting guard Anthony Edwards was unable to get it clicking offensively, scoring 13 points in one of his lowest scoring outputs thus far.

Defensively, the Dawgs struggled to contain the Sun Devils, who shot almost 50% from the floor and made ten more shots than UGA.

After a disappointing showing Saturday, the Dawgs will practice this week before a showdown with SMU on Friday in Athens.UGA

Anthony Edwards, the five-star Georgia basketball shooting guard, has joined Twitter.

After lighting it up in the second half against Michigan State in Maui, the  ‘Ant Man’ gained national attention and put the Bulldog basketball program in headlines across the country.

Now, the Dawgs find themselves sitting at 6-2, with a trip to Arizona State coming on Sunday.

Make sure to give Edwards a follow as he attempts to lead Georgia to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2014-15 season.

UGA basketball notched a victory over NC Central on Wednesday night

On Wednesday, the Georgia Bulldogs took on the North Carolina Central Eagles and defeated them in blowout fashion by a score of 95-59.

This was a game that the Dawgs needed to win, as they are back in Athens following a frustrating week in Maui that saw them go 1-2 in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

Standout freshman and projected NBA lottery pick Anthony Edwards led the Dawgs in scoring with an efficient 21 points on 8/15 shooting, while forward Rayshaun Hammonds led the team in rebounding with 9 boards.

The Dawgs will now rest for a week and a half with holiday exams, before traveling to the desert to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on December 14.

After that, it’s back to the Steg for three more crucial non-conference games against SMU, Georgia Southern and Austin Peay before SEC play in January.

The Georgia Bulldogs found themselves in a tightly contested game against Chaminade last night. Georgia struggled to gain separation after playing on their third consecutive day. With the game tied 77-77 late in the forth quarter UGA’s Anthony Edwards put the game on ice:

Edwards is superb at getting separation for pull up threes. He and the Georgia basketball team have a lot to work on moving forward. If the Dawgs want to make the NCAA Tournament, they have to play better than they did in the Maui Invitational.

Twitter reacts to Anthony Edwards’ incredible second-half showing vs. Michigan State

The Georgia men’s basketball team fell 93-85 to Michigan State on Tuesday at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui. However, the key takeaway from the game was not the loss, but freshman sensation Anthony Edwards.

After being held to only 6 points in a 19-point loss to Dayton on Monday, the five-star shooting guard entered the locker room against Michigan State with just 4 points Tuesday.

Then, the Ant Man happened….

After all the hype and anticipation in Athens, Edwards finally got it going in one of the nation’s premier college basketball tournaments.

With the game broadcast on ESPN2 to the eyes of many, the 6’5″, 225-pound shooting guard had all of Georgia on edge, watching a 28-point Spartans lead evaporate in just a few minutes.

For a moment, the entire Michigan State faithful was shellshocked at what had just transpired, putting Georgia basketball on a national stage, even in defeat.

Sure, the Bulldogs ended up losing the game, but the buzz Edwards just gendered for this program will have Georgia in the headlines for the rest of the night, and if he keeps it up, the entire season.

Georgia basketball’s comeback bid vs. Michigan State comes up short, but not without a late fight in Maui

The Georgia basketball team fell 93-85 to Michigan State in Maui Tuesday, but defeat wasn’t even the biggest storyline.

Sure, the Dawgs got blown out of the gym on Monday by an experienced Dayton squad 80-61, but what happened on Tuesday was far different.

Georgia entered the half trailing 52-31 against the Spartans and looked to be well on its way to another dud in paradise. However, highly talented freshman shooting guard Anthony Edwards put on a show out of the locker room, going for 33 points in the second half alone against Michigan State.

 

In the end, the Bulldogs were unable to grab a victory over the highly respected Spartans, but they did cut what was once a 28-point deficit down to 2 points, before bowing out in the waining moments.

It was an incredible fight, from what seemed like a lifeless team through a game and a half of basketball in Maui, that gave fans extensive hope for the future of the program. Sure, Georgia may not be able to earn any hardware on the islands, but it can return home to the Peach State at 4-2, after a nice win over Chaminade on Wednesday.

Chaminade plays UCLA Tuesday, with the loser set to face Georgia Wednesday, but we’ll go ahead and project the D2 host team matches up with the Dawgs.

So, that leaves Georgia with an easy formula to get to conference play feeling good. You already have a win over your in-state rival and a couple of feel-good momentum building victories at home, to go along with a strong second half against Michigan State. The Bulldogs outscored the Spartans 54-41 in the second period, after getting tossed around like a high school squad 52-31 before the break. Now, it’s time to put away Chaminade and take care of NC Central, SMU and others at home in the Steg.

Do that and you’re in great position to create postseason conversation going into January.

This was a disappointing game for about 30 minutes, but quickly turned into a glance at what the future could be at Georgia. Edwards will make this team a contender in games all season and his counterparts are only going to get better as well.

Sahvir Wheeler creates shots for the Dawgs like no other and Rayshaun Hammonds has proven to be a lethal scoring threat at times when managing foul trouble. The box scores may not be what you want them to be in this tournament, but this team is just getting started. I encourage everyone to keep the faith and have patience with Georgia, as they have shown to us they are still a work in progress.

Georgia men’s basketball to wear special uniforms vs. Georgia Tech?

Is Georgia basketball rocking throwbacks vs. Georgia Tech Wednesday?

Georgia men’s basketball will host in-state rival Georgia Tech Wednesday in a battle of undefeated teams at Stegeman Coliseum.

While neither side is ranked, it is still a big-time game with bragging rights and the ability to gain momentum on the line.

We cannot confirm anything, but based off a couple factors, it looks like the Dawgs will be rocking their beloved throwback jerseys against the Yellow Jackets when they take the court Wednesday.

Our evidence?

  • The first 1,250 students through the doors receive a throwback Dominique Wilkins ‘shersey’ per GeorgiaDogs.com.

  • Georgia has also posted a throwback-style gameday graphic with the old-school jerseys, mentioning Clean Old-Fashioned Hate.

  • The Dawgs broke out the newly updated throwback threads a few times last season, while playing at home.

  • The jerseys look like they will be back, based off 2020 prospects taking recruiting visit pictures in them.

Of course, nothing here is official, but we have a good feeling Georgia comes out donning the Wilkins-era threads.

Georgia basketball signs four 2020 recruits for incoming class

The Georgia basketball team signed four 2020 recruits for its incoming class this week

The Georgia men’s basketball program recently signed four 2020 prospects, after starting the season at 2-0.

Coach Crean and the Bulldogs host Georgia Tech on Wednesday at Stegeman Coliseum, but have already inked four of their targeted recruits for next year’s team.

Mikal Starks, Jonathan Ned, Josh Taylor and KD Johnson signed with Georgia and will look to set the tone for the 2020 class, after one of the best finishes in school history in 2019.

Starks, a junior college three-star, is a native of Cocoa, Florida. The 6’0″, 180-pound point guard will bring added depth an already guard-heavy Georgia roster, which is expected to lose at least Crump and Edwards after this season.

Ned, a 6’9″, 200-pound teammate of Starks’ at Eastern Florida State, is also a three-star looking to reshape the Bulldog basketball program.

Meanwhile, Taylor is a four-star power forward out of Norcross, who signed with the Bulldogs over in-state rival Georgia Tech, Houston, LSU and more.

And last but not least, Johnson is a 6’1″, 170-pound point guard who chose Georgia over Auburn, Mississippi State and the Yellow Jackets from North Avenue. The Chatham, Virginia native comes in as a three-star, ranked No. 23 in the nation at his position.
