UFC on ESPN 26 results: Ex-UFC champion Miesha Tate stops Marion Reneau in MMA return

Miesha Tate makes a successful return to MMA, picking up a TKO win at UFC on ESPN 26.

[autotag]Miesha Tate[/autotag] was successful in her return to MMA competition.

The former UFC and Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion stopped veteran [autotag]Marion Reneau[/autotag] in her comeback fight at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 26. Tate (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) defeated Reneau (9-8-1 MMA, 5-7-1 UFC) via TKO at the 1:53 mark of round three.

The women’s bantamweight bout was the UFC on ESPN 26 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

It was a dominant showing by Tate.

In the opening round, Tate was happy to keep the fight on the feet. Both fighters connected and had their moments, but Tate was doing most of the pressuring and damage. Halfway through the round, Tate closed the distance and pinned Reneau against the cage. Little action went down before the fight resumed again in the striking department. With a minute left, Tate got a takedown and moved to half-guard to end the round.

The second, Reneau started well, keeping her distance and tagging Tate from afar. However, halfway through the round, Tate got a takedown. The former UFC titleholder kept top control while landing ground-and-pound on Reneau. “The Belizean Bruiser” did a good job at avoiding major damage while being on the bottom, but was unable to get back on her feet.

The final round was all Tate. She did damage on the feet and once again was able to get the fight to the ground. From there, she poured the ground-and-pound, forcing the referee to call the fight and award the TKO win to Tate.

Tate had retired from the sport in 2016 after suffering a decision loss to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205. Tate walked away from the sport on a two-fight losing streak, which marked the end of her run as UFC women’s bantamweight champion. “Cupcake” lost the belt to current champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 in July 2016.

The 34-year-old didn’t call anyone out following her win over Reneau, but did make it clear she plans to continue fighting.

For Reneau, the loss marked her last MMA fight. The 44-year-old fighter had previously announced she was going to retire following UFC on ESPN 26. Reneau walks away from the sport with notable wins over Sara McMann and Jessica Andrade.

UFC on ESPN 26 video: Mateusz Gamrot taps Jeremy Stephens early with powerful kimura

Watch Mateusz Gamrot hand Jeremy Stephens his first submission loss since 2009.

[autotag]Mateusz Gamrot[/autotag] did what no one has done in more than a decade.

The Polish fighter handed Jeremy Stephens his first submission loss since 2009, forcing the veteran to tap out in the first round of their lightweight clash. The bout was on the UFC on ESPN 26 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

[lawrence-related id=642172]

Gamrot (19-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) immediately went for a takedown as soon as the bout started. From there he took Stephens to the mat, got side control, locked a kimura, and powered his way through the submission until he got the tap. Gamrot is the first man to submit Stephens in his last 28 UFC fights.

Gamrot is now on a two-fight winning streak since losing his UFC debut and suffering his first professional defeat to Guram Kutateladze back in October 2020. Meanwhile, Stephens falls to five defeats and one no-contest in his past six UFC bouts.

UFC on ESPN 26 video: Rodolfo Vieira rebounds from upset loss with slick submission

Rodolfo Vieira rebounded from his first career loss with a brutal submission win over Dustin Stoltzfus at UFC on ESPN 26.

[autotag]Rodolfo Vieira[/autotag] rebounded from his first career loss with a brutal submission win over Dustin Stoltzfus at UFC on ESPN 26.

After falling victim to one of the biggest upsets of the year in February with his submission defeat over Anthony Hernandez, Vieira (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) got back on track with a submission win of his own in the third round against Stoltzfus (13-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Vieira showed an evolution in his game by striking with Stoltzfus in the early going. He eventually got the back from a standing position, though, and collapsed his opponent to the mat with a rear-naked choke to get the finish at the 1:54 mark of Round 3.

Check out the replay of the submission below (via Twitter):

Following his performance, Vieira was very emotional. He said he made major changes after his sole career loss and thinks it’s going to be for the best going forward.

“I’ve been working a lot on my fundamentals and I’m trying to show I’m well rounded,” Vieira said through an interpreter in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I didn’t dive right in for the takedown and was a lot more calm and I liked it.”

UFC on ESPN 26 video: Billy Quarantillo scores unusual TKO, stops Gabriel Benitez from back control

Watch Billy Quarantillo scores unusual TKO at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 26.

[autotag]Billy Quarantillo[/autotag] made sure to bounce back strong from his first setback in the UFC.

The featherweight fighter picked up a TKO win over veteran Gabriel Benitez in the opening bout of the UFC on ESPN 26 main card. The event went down on Saturday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nev. Quarantillo’s stoppage win came at the 3:40 mark of round three.

[lawrence-related id=642110]

It was an unusual TKO win, as Quarantillo got the referee to call the fight following a wave of strikes thrown from bottom back control. Benitez had his back taken, but was pressing Quarantillo back and not letting him get top position. The stoppage came after an exciting two rounds where Quarantillo delivered a good amount of damage, battering the Mexican fighter.

With the result, Quarantillo is back on the win column following his first loss in the UFC last December. He suffered a decision loss to Gavin Tucker. The 32-year-old called out Charles Rosa in his post-fight interview, as he looks to climb the featherweight ladder.
