UFC on ESPN+ 24 results: Arnold Allen moves to 7-0 in UFC after decision over Nik Lentz

Arnold Allen continued the strong start to his octagon career at UFC on ESPN+ 24.

[autotag]Arnold Allen[/autotag] continued the strong start to his UFC career on Saturday when he defeated long-time veteran [autotag]Nik Lentz[/autotag] at UFC on ESPN+ 24.

Allen (16-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) showed a more complete game than Lentz (30-11-2 MMA, 14-8-1 UFC), landing the more effective strikes and avoiding each takedown attempt that came his way to win by unanimous decision.

The featherweight bout was part of the UFC on ESPN+ 24 preliminary card at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C., and streamed on ESPN+.

Allen was sharp on the feet in the opening round. He handled Lentz’s pressure well in the first few minutes, landing some solid counters that caused swelling to the face. Lentz pushed for the takedown and got a hold of Allen, but he couldn’t do anything meaningful with it. Lentz had his moments while looking to close the distance, but Allen remained in control.

It was more of the same in the second. Allen was patient and precise as he busted up Lentz’s face. Lentz, to his credit, remained persistent with his pressure and attempted to jump on any opening. Allen was in his groove already, though, and Lentz was out-pointed in another clear-cut round.

With the scales clearly tipped in favor of his opponent, Lentz needed to do something big in the final frame to sway the result in his favor. Allen didn’t allow a single takedown, though, and avoided taking any shots from Lentz. “Almighty” worked his effective striking down the stretch, taking the decision to stay unbeaten in the octagon.

UFC on ESPN+ 24 results: Sara McMann outwrestles Lina Lansberg for easy win in return

Sara McMann had more than 10 minutes of ground control time on Lina Lansberg in a dominant return to action at UFC Raleigh.

[autotag]Sara McMann[/autotag] had more than 10 minutes of ground control time on [autotag]Lina Lansberg[/autotag] in a dominant return to action Saturday at UFC on ESPN+ 24.

In her first fight in nearly two years, McMann (12-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) used her high-level wrestling to control Lansberg (10-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) on the mat for the overwhelming majority of three rounds to earn a unanimous decision by lopsided scores of 30- 27, 30-26 and 30-25. It was the first win since February 2017 for the one-time UFC title challenger.

McMann wasted no time taking the fight to the ground. She shot in on Lansberg from open space, getting the fight down in the center of the octagon less then 30 second in. McMann quickly went to work and attempted multiple submissions and battered Lansberg’s body with ground-and-pound. Lansberg attempted to scramble free, but McMann dominated every position and continued to attack with submissions. Lansberg hung tough, though, and lasted the round.

The fight picked up where it left off in the second. After roughly 60 seconds of cautious striking on the feet, McMann got her takedown. She smothered Lansberg from on top, and the Swede had no answers for the high level and top game of the Olympic silver medalist. McMann finally got the full mount position she was looking for in the late stages of the round, but did not have enough time to do anything effective.

Lansberg attempt to come out with a few heavy shots to start the final round, but walked right into the clinch position with McMann that led to a takedown less than 30 seconds in. Lansberg tried to create some scrambles and escape the bad spots, but McMann stuck on her and kept enough pressure to avoid being stood up or allow the fight to get away from her.

“Sometimes I’ve got away from it, and I try to strike a little bit more,” McMann said in he post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.” I’ve got good power in my hands, but why am I handicapping myself? I know ground-and-pound power is better than my power on the feet.”

The women’s bantamweight bout was part of the UFC on ESPN+ 24 preliminary card at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. It streamed on ESPN+.

Video: Herbert Burns hits devastating knee to knockout Nate Landwehr at UFC on ESPN+ 24

In a matchup of two fighters making their promotional debuts, it was Herbert Burns who started his UFC career with a bang Saturday night.

In a matchup between two fighters making their promotional debuts, it was [autotag]Herbert Burns[/autotag] who started his UFC career with a bang Saturday night.

Burns, the younger brother of UFC welterweight standout Gilbert Burns, met former M-1 Global featherweight champion [autotag]Nate Landwehr[/autotag] in a 145-pound matchup at UFC on ESPN+ 24 in Raleigh, N.C. Burns (10-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) got off to a great start, shooting in for a takedown and sinking in a tight D’Arce choke that remained locked in for more than a minute. Landwehr (13-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) kept his cool, though, and eventually broke free.

When they separated on the feet, Landwehr appeared to settle in and landed a few good shots. But in the middle of the flurry, Burns found the right moment to deliver the boom by landing a knee flush to the face that instantly turned the lights out on Landwehr.

The fight was over moments later. You can check out the finish in the video below:

DAMN.

Guess this crack from his coach before the fight didn’t strengthen Landwehr’s chin for that knee.

The victory is Burns’ fourth straight after earning his UFC contract last August with a win on “Dana White’s Contender Series.”

UFC on ESPN+ 24: Jordan Espinosa vs. Alex Perez odds, picks and best bets

Jordan Espinosa and Alex Perez battle during UFC on ESPN+ 24; we look at the fight odds and betting predictions around the matchup.

Jordan Espinosa and Alex Perez square off in a flyweight bout on the main card at UFC on ESPN+ 24 at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Saturday evening. To watch the full card, sign up for ESPN+ now.

Espinosa (14-6-0) heads into this one at 1-1 since signing with the UFC. He picked up a victory against Eric Shelton by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night in Nashville on March 23, 2019, before being submitted by Matt Schnell at UFC Fight Night in Newark on Aug. 3, 2019. This will be a battle between two Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu style fighters, so look for plenty of upright action, especially on Espinosa’s part. He has solid significant strike accuracy at 58.04% to 48.17% for Perez. Both land plenty per minute, too, as Espinosa is at 4.52 significant strikes landed per minute, and Perez lands 4.68 per minute.

Perez (22-5-0) is at a four-inch disadvantage in terms of reach (69.5″ to 65.5″), but what he lacks in that department he makes up for in terms of experience. He has five UFC fights under his belt, and he is 4-1 since joining the big time, including a win over common opponent Shelton back on Feb. 24, 2018. He is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Mark De La Rosa on March 30, 2019 on the Barboza-Gaethje card. Over his career he has won by a multitude of ways, picking up wins at the hands of the judges, with plenty of submissions and knockouts along the way. He also has been submitted on a handful of occasions, including twice by the guillotine. He might want to keep this one upright, but he can go to the mat, posting a 3.13 takedown average with a 47.62% takedown accuracy and 1.25 submission average.

Jordan Espinosa vs. Alex Perez betting odds

Per BetMGM, Perez (-278) is the heavy favorite, mainly due to his experience and overall success in the UFC. Espinosa (+200) has rather limited success, and he cannot be trusted on the 2-way line. He has just one path to victory, a knockout, while Perez can do it with his hands in an outright brawl, technical aspects to wow the judges if it goes the distance, or he can do it in the ground game. The possibilities are just more for Perez. Toss him in a two- or three-fighter parlay to get a better return, even if you bet the chalk in a few bouts.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Perez to win the fight returns $3.60 in profit. A $10 bet on Espinosa returns a profit of $20 with an upset victory.
