Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Indiana LB Cam Jones

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight series concludes with a linebacker who averaged over 10 total tackles per game in 2022.

An all-purpose player at Saint Benedict at Auburndale High School in Cordova, Tennessee, Jones was a four-year starter playing both linebacker and receiver. For two seasons running, he led his team in tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss on the defensive side of the ball. During those same two seasons, he led the team in receptions, rushing yardage, all-purpose yardage, and touchdowns.

A three-star recruit, Jones had offers from over a half dozen schools out of high school. That group included the University of Missouri, Tennessee, Memphis and Mississippi State. He signed on with Indiana in April of 2017, before withdrawing his commitment nearly two months later. He’d finalize his decision in October of 2017, enrolling with the Hoosiers.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Appalachian State C Anderson Hardy

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight Series continues with a college left tackle who is making the switch to center in the NFL.

A two-star recruit out of Sanderson High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, Hardy received half a dozen offers from schools like Old Dominion, UConn, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Charlotte. He wound up sticking in North Carolina, but he ended up out in the mountains playing at Appalachian State.

Hardy redshirted as a true freshman in 2018, and would go on to appear in six games as a redshirt freshman the following season. He found his home at left tackle in 2020, earning a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection while playing the position as a senior.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Texas S Anthony Cook

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight Series continues with a versatile defensive back who has extensive special teams experience.

Cook was a high school All-American and three-time All-District selection at Lamar High School in Houston, Texas. He was a four-star cornerback recruit coming out, with offers from over two dozen teams across the SEC, Big 12 and Big 10. Ultimately, he chose to commit to the University of Texas after visiting the campus in Austin, along with trips to LSU and Ohio State.

He started his career at Texas playing special teams and cornerback before transitioning to a more versatile role in the secondary. He earned an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2022 along with the Fred Jacoby Sportsmanship Award at the 2022 Alamo Bowl.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Fresno State WR Nikko Remigio

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight Series continues with a dangerous return man and receiver out of Fresno State.

After becoming a two-time All-Trinity Leaguer at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, Remigio received offers from UCLA, USC, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Illinois and Cal. He decided to head up the coast and commit to the Golden Bears where he’d spend the first four years of his college career.

Ahead of the 2022 college football season, Remigio used his final year of eligibility to transfer to Fresno State. He nearly matched his career numbers at Cal in a single season with the Bulldogs, earning Second-Team All-Mountain West honors at both the wide receiver and return specialist positions

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Purdue CB Reese Taylor

Our UDFA Spotlight Series continues with a cornerback who was an All-State quarterback in high school.

An Indianapolis, Indiana native, Taylor was named “Mr. Football” in the state of Indiana in 2017 as a quarterback at Ben Davis High School. As a senior, he led his team to a perfect 14-0 record and a state title with 215 completed passes for 3,150 yards and 40 touchdowns.

He was a two-time First-Team All-State quarterback high school, but Taylor wouldn’t continue playing the position at the next level. After landing at Indiana University, Taylor played three positions in his freshman campaign, spending time at cornerback, running back and wide receiver. As a sophomore, he’d make the permanent switch to cornerback during spring practices.

Taylor used his final year of eligibility to transfer from the Hoosiers to join the Purdue Boilermakers.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: NC State LB Isaiah Moore

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight Series continues with a linebacker who thrives when attacking downhill.

A tight end and linebacker at Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia, Moore was one of the top-ranked linebacker prospects coming out of the state of Virginia in 2017. He was a team captain as a senior, posting a dominant 106 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, three interceptions and five blocked kicks.

The performance earned him offers from half a dozen schools including Old Dominion, Army, Navy, UTSA and Coastal Carolina. He ultimately chose to commit to NC State and head to Raleigh, North Carolina.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Kansas State CB Ekow Boye-Doe

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight series continues with a Lawrence, Kansas native who played college ball in Manhattan, Kansas.

Ekow Boye-Doe played for Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas, earning a three-star rating in his recruitment. He received offers from Kansas, Missouri State, Tulane, UNI and Kansas State, choosing to join the Wildcats in 2018.

A multi-year starter with Kansas State, Boye-Doe established himself as an instrumental piece of the team’s defense opposite Julius Brents and Josh Hayes.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Tulsa RB Deneric Prince

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight series continues with a look at a running back with a unique blend of speed and power.

After a standout senior campaign at Marvel High School in Marvel, Texas in 2017, Prince received offers from over a dozen different schools including KU, UCLA, Louisville, Arkansas and more. He ultimately chose Texas A&M after attending a camp, visiting the program and receiving a personal visit from Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Prince played one game for the Aggies in 2018 before taking a redshirt year. He didn’t play at all in 2019 and promptly transferred to the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes where he spent the final three seasons of his college career.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: South Dakota LB Jack Cochrane

Our UDFA spotlight continues with a look at South Dakota LB Jack Cochrane and his fit with the #Chiefs:

Cochrane played at Mount Vernon High School in Iowa, beginning his football career on the offensive side of the ball playing quarterback, tight end and running back. He signed on with South Dakota as a recruit in 2017 because he related to the small-town midwestern vibe, something that likely made Kansas City appealing as an undrafted free agent.

In his first year with the Coyotes, Cochrane was supposed to have a redshirt year. Injuries forced South Dakota to pull Cochrane’s redshirt in October and he would go on to appear in seven games to close out the year, mostly appearing on special teams, but with some snaps at linebacker. His first real action would come during the 2018 season, where he recorded over 100 tackles and earned First-Team MVFC All-Academic honors. For the next three seasons, Cochrane’s teammates would vote him as a team captain and he’d thrive as a defensive leader for the team.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Wake Forest S Nasir Greer

Our UDFA spotlight continues with a look at Wake Forest S Nasir Greer and his fit with the #Chiefs:

A three-star cornerback prospect out of Stockbridge, Georgia, Greer had offers from nearly a dozen different schools. He opted to commit to Wake Forest in June of 2017 and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact on the football team.

In 2018, Greer led all true freshmen for the Demon Deacons in tackles. He boasted versatility with the ability to play both cornerback and safety. During his sophomore season in 2019, Greer became a starter on defense, finishing third in the ACC in forced fumbles. His 2020 season was ended prematurely by an ACL injury. When he returned to the field in 2021, he never seemed to be fully healthy.
