The Huskies are looking to bounce back after a 59-55 loss at home against Creighton Tuesday night. That’s back-to-back non-covers for UConn. They’ll be looking to avoid a third straight ATS loss, which would tie a season high also set Nov. 25-30.

The Wildcats were roughed up 83-73 at Marquette Wednesday, suffering a season sweep at the hands of the Golden Eagles. Villanova has just one cover across the past five games overall.

Money line

UConn (+190) is a value play for a chance to potentially double up. Villanova (-240) heads into this one with some injury concerns, particularly to G Justin Moore (ankle). The latter is the second-leading scorer for the Wildcats with 15.1 PPG, and he checks in third with 5.0 RPG. If Moore cannot play, it’s even better for the Huskies.

Against the spread

UConn +5.5 (-115) is the safe play if you’re not feeling the Huskies straight up. Trends in this series are on your side, too, as the road team is an impressive 7-1-2 ATS in the past 10 meetings, with the underdog going 6-2-2 ATS in the previous 10 in the series.

Over/Under

The OVER 129.5 (-110) is the best play on the board, although the potential for Moore to sit makes it slightly concerning. For UConn, it’s all about the Over lately, going 6-2 in the past eight games overall, and 10-3 in the past 13 as an underdog.

St. John’s fell, 83-73, at Providence Saturday. The Red Storm was undone by a Friars five shooting 50.9% from the floor. The loss came in SJU’s second game off a 17-day layoff.

The Huskies also lost Saturday, falling 90-87, in an overtime battle at Seton Hall. UConn was clipped by the Pirates shooting a robust 54.2% from the field. And in that game, the Huskies were returning to action after 17 days off. Connecticut is 6-1 at home this season.

The differential here leaves a lot of room for the true odds to reside: PASS.

Against the spread

SJU is 1-9 ATS in its last 10 games overall. The Red Storm is 0-5 ATS in its last five games against winning teams. The home team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 series meetings.

St. John’s has been wildly inconsistent. The Storm hasn’t really performed well against top-200 types, and its ATS record is telling. It boasts the highest scoring average in the Big East (82.4 points per game), but SJU’s schedule so far has been easy.

Connecticut has more depth in real scoring options. And on defense, the Huskies rank in the top-10 in the nation in defending 2-point attempts and blocked shots.

TAKE THE HUSKIES -10.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Look for a decent number of 3s and a fair amount of quick scores (put-backs, turnover/transition baskets) and untimed attempts (free throws). It all adds up to more opportunities per minute than perhaps what the public is expecting. And that volume for shooters figures to be back to game rhythm after the missed time a couple weeks ago.

UConn is coming off its worst shooting performance of the season, having shot just 31.1% from the floor in a Saturday loss to St. Bonaventure. The Huskies were cold from the field and also got to the line just 13 times, which is a far cry from the 25.2 free throws attempted per game in the team’s previous nine.

The Golden Eagles lost at Xavier Saturday and have dropped three of their last four games after starting the season 7-1. At Xavier, Marquette was a minus on the boards and in the turnover exchange, and the Eagles have now logged that toxic double in three straight games.

The Huskies swept two games from the Eagles last season.

Connecticut is the better team at both ends of the floor in shooting and defending different types of looks, in rebounding and in taking care of the ball. The Huskies had been off a week before their setback at Providence. They’ve had nice bounce-backs in next-time-out games after previous losses.

Look for a sharper Connecticut effort in this tilt. We were rolling with UCONN, but they were steamed up from -150 to -190. There’s not enough value there. PASS.

Against the spread

The road team is 6-2 ATS across the last eight meetings between the Huskies and Eagles.

TAKE THE HUSKIES -3.5 (-122). Marquette can create the pace, but not the turnovers and/or second-chance buckets it’ll take to cover. UConn has been embroiled in some hard-fought road/neutral-site games so far. The Huskies are the more veteran squad, and a 7-to-10 point win would not be a surprise.

Over/Under

It’s a well-made number, but you can go lightly on the OVER 141.5 (-115).

The UConn Huskies (1-8) visit Clemson Memorial Stadium to take on the Clemson Tigers (6-3) Saturday. Kickoff for the non-conference tilt is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the UConn at Clemson odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Tigers have had a relatively disappointing season after being projected to contend for a CFP spot. Clemson still has talent at all positions, but losses to Pitt, NC State and Georgia will continue to haunt it.

Clemson’s offensive line has been a problem all season long, but it should hold up against a pitiful UConn team. The Huskies have just one win and will have no business hanging around in this game.

They’ve beaten Yale but have since lost to Middle Tennessee by 31. They’ve lost games by 45 and 49 to currently unranked teams. It’s been a brutal season that may get even rougher Saturday.

PASS, obviously. There aren’t any odds because it just wouldn’t make sense to allow any ultra-rich bettor to slap $100,000 on this one. The upset possibility just isn’t here.

Against the spread

BET CLEMSON -40.5 (-120) as the Tigers have been a solid team this season. Are they a top-10 team in the nation? No. But they have handled subpar teams.

They defeated SC State by 46. Aside from that, they really haven’t had any gimme games. This is one of them. Clemson is almost averaging 150 yards on the ground.

UConn allows almost 200 yards per game. Clemson should run all over the Huskies and should score with ease. UConn averages the 124th most points in the FBS at just over 16 per game.

This one should be all Tigers.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to UNDER 51.5 (-115) as Clemson’s passing game has been nonexistent.

While I think the Tigers defense should get the best of a UConn team that’s struggled to move the ball, betting the Under is about the incompetent Tigers pass game.

With superstar QB Trevor Lawrence off to the NFL, QB D.J. Uiagalelei took over, and Clemson has struggled heavily, ranking in the bottom third in the FBS in passing yards per game.

Given that and the strength in the run game, especially with that being a clock-killing strategy, expect the Under to hit.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-4) and UConn Huskies (1-7) meet Friday for a 6 p.m. ET game at Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut. Below, we look at the Middle Tennessee vs. UConn odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Middle Tennessee heads on the road after a bye week and four losses in its last five games. The Blue Raiders scored less than 15 points in three of those losses.

On the season, MTSU ranks 113th in FBS in total offense (328.8 yards per game). The Raiders are 0-4 on the road this season; they are 3-13 over their last 16 games away from home, dating back to 2018.

The Huskies snapped a seven-game skid to open the season with a 21-15 win over the Yale Bulldogs last Saturday. Things got interesting late after Connecticut had worked itself to a 21-0 lead by the 11:15-mark of the third quarter.

But, the Huskies hung on for their first victory since Oct. 26, 2019 (UConn did not play in 2020). A Huskies team which was a minus-7 in turnovers going into the contest was a plus-4 against a Yale squad that threw four picks.

AVOID at the current tag, but keep an eye on this price. UConn is the lean, and with two shaky teams tangling in the unusual time slot, a +500 should make for some interest on the Huskies side.

Against the spread

Both teams are ranked outside the top-100 on both sides of the ball. Middle Tennessee has results buoyed by turnovers: the Raiders are a plus-10 in turnovers overall.

The Huskies have a couple results under their belt — recent ones — that bode well for bettors seeing them as undervalued by their overall record. UConn’s two-point losses to Wyoming (Sept. 25) and Vanderbilt (Oct. 2) stand out as examples of the Huskies’ better days and ones not artificially propped up by turnovers.

MTSU is 0-4 (0-3-1 ATS) over its last four road games.

BACK THE HUSKIES +15.5 (-112).

Purdue impressed last week with a 30-21 win and cover against Oregon State in an entertaining affair. QB Jack Plummer was impressive, especially in the fourth quarter, as he tossed two touchdowns to TE Payne Durham in the final 4:56.

UConn has been a disaster, and that’s to be expected after taking the entire 2020 season off due to COVID-19. The Huskies were dusted 45-0 by Fresno State in Week 0, and then they dropped the home opener 38-28 to FCS Holy Cross last weekend.

The loss to the Crusaders was too much for head coach Randy Edsall, as he stepped down, giving way to defensive coordinator Lou Spanos as the interim coach.

AVOID.

Against the spread

I cannot believe I am suggesting it, but PURDUE -34.5 (-108) on the road as a five-touchdown favorite is the play.

The Boilermakers wouldn’t exactly be considered prolific, but Connecticut is a rudderless ship right now and it isn’t inconceivable the Huskies could even get blanked in this one. It’s a right-place, right-time situation for the Boilers.

UNDER 57.5 (-108) is the lean here, ever so slightly. I just don’t trust the Huskies to put up more than a handful of points, and I don’t think Purdue is capable of going into the 50s, even against the disorganized Huskies, so stick with the Under.

Previewing Saturday’s Maryland Terrapins vs. UConn Huskies odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The 10-seed Maryland Terrapins (16-13) meet the 7-seed UConn Huskies (15-7) Saturday in the first round of the East Regional at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana. The tip-off is set for 7:10 p.m. ET and will be airing on CBS. Below, we analyze the Maryland-UConn odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

UConn returned to the Big East conference this season and is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 and Dan Hurley’s third season at the program.

The Huskies had a five-game winning streak snapped after losing to then-No. 17 Creighton in the Big East Tournament semifinals 59-56 as 2-point underdogs.

The Terrapins have lost three of their past four games (1-3 ATS), including a 79-69 loss to then-No. 4 Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament.

Maryland has made back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and it’s the fifth appearance in seven years under 10-year head coach Mark Turgeon. The Terps have won a game in three of their last four tournament appearances.

Slight lean toward MARYLAND (+140) for a tiny wager since I like the Terps to cover the spread but if it’s one of the other, definitely take the points with the underdog.

Against the spread (ATS)

MARYLAND +3.5 (-110) is slightly more experienced on the floor and Turgeon has a lot more tournament experience than Hurley.

Also, the Terps are 63rd in true shooting percentage (TS%), which accounts for free throws, and the Huskies are 208th in TS%.

Furthermore, Maryland figures to win the free-throw battle. UConn is 292nd in defensive FTA/FG rate and 203rd in offensive FTA/FG rate while the Terps are ranked 117th and 51st in offensive and defensive FTA/FG percentages.

Finally, according to Pregame.com, the market has steamed UConn up to laying 3.5 points after opening as a 2-point favorite. It’s generally more profitable to fade this one-sided of a market than follow it.

Over/Under (O/U)

Both teams play at a slow tempo, are much more efficient on defense and Maryland, in particular, has a lot of perimeter length, which will give UConn’s poor shooting offense a lot of trouble.
