UFC 293 results: Tyson Pedro breaks out sword celebration after bludgeoning knockout of Anton Turkalj

At UFC 293, Tyson Pedro kicked off the main card with a bang: a scintillating knockout of Anton Turkalj and a cold celebration.

[autotag]Tyson Pedro[/autotag] made quick work of [autotag]Anton Turkalj[/autotag] en route to victory Saturday at UFC 293.

In a light heavyweight bout that opened up the main card at Qudos Arena in Sydney, Pedro (10-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) knocked out Turkalj (8-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) with the stoppage coming at 2:12 of Round 1.

Once he got going, it seemed like Pedro couldn’t miss – particularly with his right hand. A combination knocked Turkalj off balance, but “The Pleasure Man” remained upright. After a few more combinations, a Pedro right hand put Turkalj down. A wicked hammerfist followed and turned Turkalj’s lights out.

With the victory, Pedro bounces back into the win column after a February unanimous decision loss to Modestas Bukauskas. He has now won three of his most recent four. In defeat, Turkalj has now lost three consecutive bouts to start his UFC tenure.

UFC 284 medical suspensions: Yair Rodriguez, Josh Emmett among lengthiest terms

Five fighters, including both co-main event participants, were suspended six months for injuries sustained Down Under at UFC 284.

Five fighters face 180-day medical suspensions as a result of injuries sustained at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia.

On Monday, the Combat Sports Commission of Western Australia publicly published a full list of medical suspensions. While the commission discloses the duration of the suspensions, it does not reveal specifics of fighters’ injuries.

Co-main event participants [autotag]Yair Rodriguez[/autotag] and [autotag]Josh Emmett[/autotag] were among the five fighters who received six-months suspensions, the longest term given to any fighters on the card.

UFC 284 took place Feb. 11 at RAC Arena and was headlined by a lightweight title fight between Islam [autotag]Makhachev[/autotag] and [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag].

See below to check out the medical suspensions given to each fighter. It’s important to note fighters can return sooner than the conclusion of the suspension listed if they are cleared by a doctor beforehand.

Tyson Pedro says he dealt with ‘extreme diarrhea and vomiting’ night before UFC 284 loss

“It was extreme diarrhea and vomiting for the whole night,” Tyson Pedro said, explaining his performance at UFC 284.

[autotag]Tyson Pedro[/autotag] says he had some health issues going into UFC 284.

Pedro (9-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) lost a unanimous decision to Modestas Bukauskas (14-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC) in their light heavyweight bout this past Saturday at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, where he started to slow down after a back-and-forth first round.

That’s because the 31-year-old Aussie says he was dealing with gastroenteritis, commonly referred to as a stomach flu, the day before the fight, which compromised him while he competed. After receiving heavy criticism from fans online, Pedro decided to address what happened.

“The night before my fight, I contracted gastro,” Pedro said in a video posted to Instagram. “It was extreme diarrhea and vomiting for the whole night. When the UFC bus came, I was still on the toilet ground vomiting and if you want to confirm it, you can ask the USADA guy who had to sit there watching me sh*t nonstop while he was trying to take my piss.”

The loss snapped Pedro’s two-fight winning streak.

The returning Bukauskas has now won three straight since being released by the UFC in late 2021 – including capturing the vacant Cage Warriors light heavyweight title.
