The Eagles continued their SEC streak of draft picks, snagging offensive tackle Tyler Steen with the 65th pick in the third round.

An athletic offensive tackle who started his career on defense at Vanderbilt before transferring to Alabama, Steen started all 12 games at right tackle in his first year at that position, then started all nine games in 2020 at right tackle for the Commodores and all 12 games in 2021 at the left tackle spot.

Steen transferred from Vanderbilt to Alabama as a graduate student before the 2022 season, earning second-team All-SEC honors for his play in 13 starts at left tackle.

Steen could transition to the guard position in the NFL as a versatile player.

Alabama could have as many as 13 draft selections at the end of the month and from Bryce Young to DJ Dale we are going to profile each one of them.

Let’s take a look at one of the more versatile offensive linemen in the 2023 draft class, Tyler Steen.

Breaking down the Eagles picks in Matt Miller’s latest 7-round NFL mock draft for ESPN

We’re breaking down the Philadelphia Eagles’ six picks in Matt Miller’s latest seven-round NFL mock draft for ESPN.

We’re now less than five days from the start of the 2023 NFL draft, and all eyes will be on the Carolina Panthers with pick No. 1 overall.

The Eagles offer their amount of intrigue with two first-round picks and a GM known for moving up and down the draft board.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller released a seven-round mock on Sunday, and he has Philadelphia reloading on defense with their first three picks.

Tyler Steen considered a strong pick outside of the first round

Tyler Steen may not be selected in the first round, but he will certainly have an impact on whichever team he lands with.

Tyler Steen joined the Alabama football program via the transfer portal ahead of the 2022 season after beginning his career with the Vanderbilt Commodores. After one season with the Crimson Tide, Steen is now headed to the NFL.

Though he is not projected to be selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, Steen is a strong candidate to be selected in an early round.

Pro Football Focus’ Trevor Sikkema recently named a few players that would be solid picks outside of the first round. Steen made the list.

“In Steen, I feel like I know I’m getting a good offensive lineman who can start, if needed, at guard or tackle,” writes Sikkema. Steen started for just one year in college due to now-New York Giants tackle Evan Neal playing in front of him, but he posted a 71.9 overall grade with a 77.9 grade as a pass blocker.

Steen is built like a guard with a thick lower body that helps him anchor some of the best bull rushers, but his movement skills were good enough to survive at offensive tackle this past season. Whether at guard or tackle in the NFL, Steen is a player I have confidence in to be a consistent name on my depth chart.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Steen and other former Alabama players as they prepare to begin their professional careers by way of the 2023 NFL draft.

2023 NFL draft: 25 potential offensive line targets for the Seahawks

The Seahawks haven’t exactly been known for their offensive line play during the Pete Carroll era.

The Seahawks haven’t exactly been known for their offensive line play during the Pete Carroll era. In fact, the unit has usually been one of the weakest on their roster. That all could change sooner rather than later, though. Thanks to a couple of excellent picks in last year’s draft, Seattle has a strong foundation to build on in their new starting offensive tackles, Charles Cross and Abe Lucas.

If the Seahawks can follow up with another good pair of picks in the 2023 NFL draft, they may soon have their best OL since the Walter Jones years. Most of all what this group needs is a genuine starting center to lead them. Free agent pickup Evan Brown is projected to start this coming season. However, he only signed a one-year deal, so they need to plan for the future.

With that in mind, here are 25 potential offensive line targets in this draft class, beginning with several who they have held official meetings with.

Commanders hosted Alabama offensive tackle Tyler Steen

The Commanders recently hosted an All-SEC left tackle.

The Washington Commanders are leaving no stone unturned in their search for offensive line help in the 2023 NFL draft.

Washington visited with several offensive linemen at the Senior Bowl and NFL combine, and met with others via Zoom while hosting some on top 30 visits.

Most mock drafts have the Commanders going with a combination of offensive line and cornerback in the first two rounds. And judging by Washington’s pre-draft work, that appears to be an accurate projection.

Tyler Steen, a 6-foot-6, 321-pound offensive tackle from Alabama, recently visited the Commanders. Steen played four seasons at Vanderbilt before spending his final season with the Crimson Tide.

A former defensive lineman, Steen moved to the offensive line in 2019 and improved each season. He finished his career as the starting left tackle for Alabama. That’s not a bad career progression and offers an encouraging view of Steen’s ability to continually improve.

Steen could be a middle-round option for the Commanders.

Browns will host Alabama offensive tackle Tyler Steen on pre-draft visit

Could the Browns draft another Alabama tackle?

Offensive line depth both inside and outside is something the Browns need to address in the 2023 NFL Draft. The team may look to draft another Alabama tackle as they are set to have a pre-draft visit with Tyler Steen. Steen is an interesting prospect that has three years of starting experience in the SEC as Alabama’s left tackle.

Steen is an athletic tackle that has good lateral agility and climbs to the second level of a defensive effectively. He lacks elite strength to move people in the run game but has good hand placement with some coaching and development he could be an effective swing tackle in the NFL.

Alabama OT prospect among latest pre-draft visits for Seahawks

According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Alabama offensive tackle Tyler Steen has the Seahawks on his long list of teams to visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft in two weeks.

According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Alabama offensive tackle Tyler Steen has the Seahawks on his long list of teams to visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft in two weeks.

Seattle understandably hasn’t shown much interest in offensive tackles throughout the draft process. Last year they landed two likely long-term starters in Charles Cross and Abe Lucas. Steen is only the second reported meeting for an OT prospect and the Seahawks – the other being Ohio State’s gigantic right tackle Dawand Jones.

Steen has experience on both sides, though. That makes him an interesting swing tackle option for teams looking for depth at both spots. At the combine, Steen was measured at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds with 32.75″ arms and 10.5″ hands. Steen also showcased his power and explosiveness with 31 bench press reps and a 29.5″ vertical.

Here’s Lance Zierling’s scouting report from NFL.com.

“Steen uses length and hand resets to extend his mirroring. He would benefit from better catch-and-clamp hands to limit secondary rush opportunities. He plays with hustle off the snap to find back-side positioning on zone blocks, but he needs to eliminate his forward lean in space to improve timing and adjustments at the second level. Steen has good size with average athleticism and is still fine-tuning technique. He could compete for a role as a swing backup early on but could find starting snaps in time.”

The Seahawks have made a habit of drafting players who they get stuck on at the Senior Bowl. Here’s a look at Steen’s reps there.

Mock draft projections for Steen have him coming off the board in Round 3.

Patriots have pre-draft visit set with standout Alabama offensive tackle

The New England Patriots have scheduled a visit with an All-SEC offensive lineman.

The New England Patriots have several pre-draft visits lined up, and that includes Alabama offensive tackle Tyler Steen. The standout offensive lineman is expected to make a pit stop at New England as one of his pre-draft visits, per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Steen had a tremendous 2022 season for Alabama. He was the starting left tackle and made the All-SEC second team. He had 25 knockdown blocks last year and helped out an offense that recorded 195.5 rushing yards per game and 281.6 passing yards per game.

He only allowed 4.5 sacks on the year, which is of note given New England’s struggles with the offensive line last season. He could potentially alleviate those problems if he were to be selected by the organization.

Bill Belichick’s familiarity with Alabama head coach Nick Saban as well as the program overall would make Steen a safer selection.

New England needs help on the offensive line, and Steen has the tools to be successful in the NFL.
