Film Review: Rutgers lands 2024 strongside defensive end Tyclean Luman

Rutgers football landed 2024 strongside defensive end Tyclean Luman, brother of Rutgers 2024 recruit Tycoolhill Luman, to their 2024 class.

Early last month, Rutgers landed 2024 strongside defensive end Tyclean Luman, brother of Rutgers 2024 recruit Tycoolhill Luman. Rutgers football added two Florida recruits to their 2024 class, adding some impressive pieces on the defensive side of the ball.

The 6-foot-3, 252 pounds Florida native from Miami, FL, is a three-star edge rusher. The Miami native received offers from Indiana, Louisville, Minnesota, ArkansasAuburnFlorida State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Syracuse, and West Virginia. He has size, length, and athleticism that can boost Rutgers’ defense.

According to Rivals.com, Luman is ranked No. 97 in Florida and No. 43 among his recruiting class for his position. He has a 5.7 Rivals Rating, making him a three-star recruit.

While playing at Miami Jackson High School, Luman recorded 63 tackles, 12 sacks, one interception, and 26 tackles for loss last season.

Film Breakdown

Like his brother Tycoolhill, Tyclean is a speedy relentless edge player who can play in a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive scheme. Luman can perform damage in nickel sets, rushing after the quarterback in passing situations.

Rutgers defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak can design packages allowing Luman to drop back into coverage. For a defensive lineman, Luman has excellent hands and can snag interceptions when dropping into coverage.

Luman can be a solid piece for Haraymaik’s defense, lining up anywhere on the field. Haraymiak can have Luman line up as nose guard in passing situations, using his speed and quickness to cause havoc up the middle.

The three-star recruit has a motor that never stops, providing multiple pass-rush moves when getting after the quarterback. He has excellent discipline and football IQ, maintaining outside leverage in rushing situations. Tyclean can be a multi-year starter for the Scarlet Knights, as the Luman brothers can be a dynamic duo in the Big Ten Conference.

Rutgers football got two Florida commitments on Sunday, adding some pretty impressive pieces with the commitment of Tycoolhill Luman and Tyclean Luman.

The class of 2024 brothers committed on Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of their official visit to Rutgers.

The brothers, both three-stars, are now the second and third commitments to Rutgers from this weekend’s official visits. The Luman brothers along with Raynor Andrews, who committed on Saturday night, all play for Norland High School (Miami, FL).

The brothers are defensive ends with identical measurements of 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds. They individually and collectively hold offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Syracuse and West Virginia among others.

According to 247Sports, the Luman brothers are each ranked among the top 80 edge rushers in the nation.

Coming into this weekend, Rutgers had a top 30 recruiting class nationally prior to the addition of Andrews as well as the Luman brothers.

The 2024 Rutgers football recruiting class now stands at 11 players with four verbals on defense. The first defensive commitment came in April from three-star linebacker Sam Pilof. Also coming in April was Judah Pruitt, a defensive tackle prospect.

The addition of the Luman brothers adds some significant size, length and athleticism to Rutgers off the edge.

Tigers extend offer to twin brothers from Canada

The Auburn coaching staff extended offers to Canadian twins Tyclean and Tychoolhill Luman. The two are in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

On Monday, the Auburn coaching staff extended an offer to 2024 defensive lineman Tychoolhill Luman and 2024 edge Tyclean Luman. After a good showing at one of Auburn’s summer camps, the Canadian natives added their ninth offer.

The Luman twins are originally from Canada but moved to the states to enhance their college recruitment. The two now play for Miami International Academy in Miami, Florida. The school began its football program in 2021. The two twin brothers are sure to be instrumental in the team’s success this upcoming season as both will be rising juniors.

Tychoolhill is listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds. Meanwhile, his brother, Tyclean is listed at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. The Tigers’ coaching staff could likely use the two of them in a variety of different roles. The two will likely need to add some muscle weight in order to play on the interior. However, they have the size to play as an edge rusher in defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding’s defense.

While the Tigers have extended offers, several other Division 1 programs have as well. Schools like Florida State, Ole Miss, Louisville, and Syracuse have offered thus far. As mentioned previously, the brothers will be juniors in high school so it is very likely that other schools come into the fold. The Tigers would love to bolster the class with the addition of these two ascending recruits in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
