The internet is losing their minds over Zach LaVine’s practice dunk

Zach, we don’t wanna see you shooting threes, bud.

Listen, bruh. Is it too late to get Zach LaVine into the dunk contest? Because, uh, this man is casually attempting free throw line 360 dunks like it’s absolutely nothing.

It’s cute and all that he’s trying to be the first player in NBA history to win the 3-point contest and the dunk contest, having already won the latter twice in 2015 and 2016. In 2020, LaVine is only scheduled to appear in the 3-point contest. That’s a nice little story or whatever.

But Zach, buddy, you’re wasting your time. We just want you to dunk.

I mean, look at how ridiculous this attempt is. Like, what kind of person is able to do this? This man has to have wings. He HAS to.

Dude! Come on. The NBA has to let him dunk, man. The people are absolutely demanding it. They’re going crazy over this dunk.

They’re even putting in requests at this point. Hey Zach, bruh, come on. Get in there.

Ugh, it’s so maddening. LaVine could just this thing down every year, man. Every single year. No disrespect to the dunk contest field this year, but whatever they do isn’t even going to amount to that miss. LaVine is king.

Look, man. I ain’t gonna say he’d beat prime Vince Carter. But I’m also not not gonna say he’d beat Vince Carter.

To be quite honest, fam, I just want to see him dunk again. And the rest of us do, too. Somebody has to make this happen.

Luke Walton got a tech for calling a ref a Luka Doncic fan

Luka Doncic has a new fan, apparently.

Luka Doncic is only in his second season in the NBA and is already one of the toughest players to guard in the NBA, so it makes a ton of sense that he’d get a lot of foul calls.

Not to Luke Walton, though. The Sacramento Kings coach got so mad last night at a foul call for Doncic while the Mavericks’ forward was dropping 33 points on his team.

He was so mad about the call he took a technical foul for it. As Doncic was walking up to the foul line, Walton told the second-year star that the ref who made the call was actually a fan of his.

“Give the referee your autograph after the game. He’s a fan of yours.”

YO. I’m legitimately cracking up at this.

In the ref’s defense, Luka is good! I’m a fan, too. And, to be honest, so are the Kings, probably! It’s just too bad they weren’t big enough fans to draft him.

The Chiefs’ spin moves on fourth down in the Super Bowl made Twitter go crazy

Can’t tell if this is the Super Bowl or a New Edition concert?

It takes a strong resolve to go for it on 4th down. It’s not an easy thing to do and could actually cost you a game if the decision backfires.

You know what takes real guts though? Having your players bust out DANCE MOVES to go for it on fourth down in the Super Bowl. You know who has those guts? Andy. Reid.

After the Chiefs failed to pick up a first down because of a big hit on Patrick Mahomes, Reid had the Chiefs line up in a funky formation on fourth down that didn’t make a ton of sense initially.

What were they going to do here? Is this a wildcat play? Is a receiver about to throw an interception on 4th and 1? How is this going to work.

And that’s when they busted out the group spin.

Next thing you know, Damien Williams burst through the line of scrimmage for a first down and then some.

It wasn’t just the fact that it was a cool looking play. It was the fact that they really busted out the Temptations spin moves in the middle of a game. It’s like they were a boy band on a football field.

The Chiefs didn’t score on this play, but they certainly scored in our hearts. They need to include extra points for flare. Make that a rule from now on.

Michael Jordan weighed in on LeBron James and the GOAT debate

We’ve never seen Jordan take the diplomatic route, but alas.

The greatest of all time debates in the NBA are probably the most tiresome debates you could possibly have.

There’s always that somebody that says it’s Michael Jordan. Then, you’ve got the person who is probably just barely old enough to buy a beer and doesn’t know what a Tamogatchi is who says it’s undeniably LeBron James.

Then you’ve got the old-head who inserts themselves into the conversation and says something wild like “do you even know what a sky hook is, young fella?” Calm down, grandpa.

Then, of course, you’ve got the Kobe stan who is literally the only person who could possibly think that Kobe Bryant is the greatest basketball player of all time.

Like I said, it’s a tiresome debate. I hate having it. Don’t ask me where I stand.

Apparently, Michael Jordan didn’t feel like having the debate either. When he was asked about the comparisons between he and LeBron as the greatest players of all-time, he took the cop out route. You know the one.

That whole “they played in different eras so we can’t tell!” thing. Yup, he went there.

BOOOOOOOOO.

I expected way more out of Michael Jordan. He literally crafted his Hall of Fame speech around disparaging the opponents that he mopped the floor with for two decades one last time.

He couldn’t give us a little “oh, LeBron? TUH” or something? Jordan could do better.

In all honesty, this is probably the correct answer. But we don’t want the correct answer. We want Michael Jordan’s real answer. This doesn’t feel like that.

I know what we have to do. Next time, somebody just needs to straight up tell MJ that LeBron is better.

He’ll probably come out of retirement to try and prove it wrong.

The internet is roasting Stephen A. Smith for a terrible NBA trade proposal

Oh, Stephen A. This is your finest work.

We’re knee deep into trade speculation season in the NBA and people are already firing up their wildest trade machine moves for their favorite team more than a month away from the trade deadline.

No trade proposal you can find on Twitter is as wild as the deal Stephen A. Smith proposed the Suns do on Tuesday.

He suggested that the Lakers package Kyle Kuzma along with “a multitude of players and even a pick.” He then suggested to send said package to the Phoenix Suns for Devin Booker to partner him up with Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

Yup, that’s right. Stephen A. thinks Kuzma could be the centerpiece for a deal that gets Devin Booker to the Lakers.

The internet promptly roasted him for this take.

It’s hard to see this happening. And I really, really tried to see it happen. So hard, in fact, that I broke my own personal code and went to the NBA’s trade machine to make it happen.

The best thing I could come up with was this garbage.

Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green and a bunch of injured former All-Star carcasses along this year’s first round pick (which probably falls under 25) and…it’s still probably a hard no with a cackle before James Jones hands up the phone.

TO BE FAIR to Smith, we’ve probably seen worse trades go down in the NBA? I’m really trying to shoot him some bail here. This is a really good point.

It’s the NBA. As Kevin Garnett once told us, anything is possible.

Michael Thomas trolled Vikings fans through their loss to the 49ers

This is the type of trolling I respect

Michael Thomas is one of the very best receivers in the NFL. Apparently, he’s also one of the best Twitter trolls in the league.

While Kirk Cousins and the Vikings were struggling to put numbers on the board against the 49ers’ excellent defense, the Saints’ receiver was on the internet getting busy.

This is the peak of pettiness for Thomas. Sure, the Saints lost to the Vikings last week. Still, he came right back to the Internet to let Vikings’ fans know that they’d be sitting on the couch right next to the Saints for the rest of the playoffs.

He let them know that their offense broken. It was mean.

He also let them know that whatever yards they were getting after the game was out of reach didn’t really matter.

And remember when Stefon Diggs did the “Choppa Style” dance before shaking Sean Payton’s hand last week? Thomas ain’t forget about that.

I’ve got to say, this is the type of petty I respect. When you can come back after a loss and still talk trash? You can’t do anything but respect it as an opponent. Shoutout to Thomas.

LeBron James: Lakers forward is out with a cold against the Thunder

Honestly? Just a cold?

All season long in the NBA, the term “load management” has been trashed left and right by players, coaches and pundits complaining that today’s NBA players aren’t playing quite enough.

One of the people at the forefront of the opposition against load management has been LeBron James. Earlier this season, James went on a semi-rant saying that he doesn’t believe in load management, and that if he’s healthy, he’s going to play regardless of scheduling concerns with back-to-back games.

“Why wouldn’t I play if I’m healthy? It doesn’t make any sense to me. My obligation is to play for my teammates.”

That strategy for James, right or wrong, has held up this season. He’s yet to be a healthy scratch. He’s missed a few games here and there because of a strained groin, so what he said checks out.

On Saturday, however, James will sit out the second half of a road back-to-back against the Oklahoma City Thunder with… a cold?

Seriously? A cold? How bad is this cold? Naaaah. Come on, LeBron. There’s got to be more to it with that. We have to get an Instagram story with the sniffles and some tissue. Something.

But, man, it’s just hard to believe a player who allegedly played through the NBA Finals with a broken hand and prides himself on being available for every game he possibly can to sit out with a simple cold.

Twitter was torn. Some people don’t believe a player as great as LeBron can be out with just a cold.

Others believe that he’s sick. And there’s ample evidence that proves he’s had a cold for a while.

Some people are just here for the jokes.

I fall squarely in that last column. These jokes are good. Imagine how upset the Dallas Mavericks are that James dropped them off for 35 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists last night…and then didn’t play the very next day.

That’s sick — literally?

6 times Kevin Durant owned his critics on social media

Kevin Durant is officially not nice.

Kevin Durant is not nice. That’s an old tag line from a Nike campaign they were running for Durant during his Oklahoma City days. It was totally untrue and forced back then. He was, in fact, extremely nice — probably to a fault.

Today? Truer words have never been spoken.

Durant is straight up eviscerating fools on Twitter. Kendrick Perkins was his latest victim last night. There were plenty more before him — fans, players and media alike.

Durant is a phenomenal basketball player, but these days his best work is coming off the court. Let’s take a look back at some of the all-time roasts Durant has gifted us with.

(Warning: These interactions contain some profanity.)

6. That time KD defended his move to the Warriors in an Instagram DM

Someone took to Durant’s DM on Instagram to go at him for joining the Warriors. He bragged to him about how well he sleeps and then thoroughly broke down why it made sense for him to go to Golden State.

Let me tell you, he’s a more patient person than he gets credit for. Most of us would swiftly hit that block button.

5. Durant vs. CJ McCollum

Durant went at CJ McCollum on his own podcast one day and then came at him on Twitter the next. McCollum was on Twitter talking crazy about Durant’s decision to leave the Thunder for the Warriors after their loss in the Conference Finals.

Then KD swooped in. NOT. NICE.

“Snakes in the grass boy I tell ya” is still a wild quote. It’s accurate though.

4. Middle schoolers can get it too

He literally roasted a teen on Instagram for saying he wasn’t in the “same galaxy as LeBron.”

His response was to call him a “middle school stephen a.” Ruthless.

Honestly? You’ve got to respect this. This is the equivalent of blocking a kid’s shot that’s six inches shorter than you or whooping them by 50 in 2K. Let them know who is boss.

3. That time he went at Chris Broussard

Everything always seems to come back to the Warriors, doesn’t it?

Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard said Durant’s “worst nightmare” would be watching his Warriors teammates win a title without him. He also said that he and Durant have a “love/hate” relationship and that they’ve had text conversations that span over five hours.

Of course, KD wasn’t having it. He called him out on Twitter.

Broussard chose to respond by clarifying that their conversations haven’t been through text, but rather social media DM’s? That’s… a choice. He didn’t want to drop receipts, though. He called respect for Durant’s privacy.

2. KD doesn’t care about your stupid math

It’s basketball. Only buckets matter.

Durant found himself in a Twitter conversation with The Action Network’s Matt Moore. The heart of the conversation? The death of the midrange shot.

Durant believed that too many players were taking threes and not enough were taking shots they were comfortable with. Moore argued that the three point shot was better than a midrange two.

To prove that, he dropped a chart that detailed the value of the three point shot. Kevin Durant’s response?

This is like when someone sends you a 10 page text message that they know you won’t read. This is how you let them know you won’t read it.

Somebody tried to defend the use of the graph in their conversation — and the graph honestly did make sense. But to Durant’s point:

… Fair enough.

1. Kendrick Perkins has to retire from everything now

I know this just happened yesterday, but it was just SO MEAN.

Perkins called Russell Westbrook “Mr. Thunder” in his return to Oklahoma City, which is fine. He’s basically a lifer there. But he’s very clearly not the best player to ever wear the uniform — that’s Durant.

Yet, Perkins tried to make that argument. He then called Durant out for losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs without Westbrook.

KD called him out for… not being good at basketball.

He tried to have mercy, y’all. He tried to give Perkins an out. He really did.

BUT HE CAME BACK FOR MORE AND GOT BURNED AGAIN.

THAT’S JUST MEAN.
