Max Homa: Confirmed star? Plus an AT&T Byron Nelson preview with picks

Homa has now won three PGA Tour events since the start of 2021.

Max Homa is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in golf, for his on-course performance and off. The Twitter roaster struggled several years ago just to make a cut but has now won three events since the start of 2021.

Not bad.

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast, we discuss his performance down the stretch at the Wells Fargo Championship and how he is a lock for the Presidents Cup (and maybe the Ryder Cup).

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are officially in the field for the PGA Championship — but will they play? It seems inevitable Woods will, but with the circus that will come with Lefty, he may not make it to Southern Hills.

We also talk about Sergio Garcia’s outburst after a lost ball at the Wells Fargo and say goodbye as it seems he’s headed to LIV Golf.

Byron Nelson: Best bets

Finally, we preview this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson including our favorite picks for the week.

Was Tiger Woods’ week at Augusta a success? Full Masters recap and RBC Heritage preview

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast: Scottie, Tiger, full Masters recap, and a RBC Heritage preview.

To quickly answer the question posed in the headline — of course, it was!

Tiger Woods showed the golf world even through agonizing pain, he’s still got the game to keep up with the world’s best. And he’s only going to get better.

After his round Sunday, he confirmed that he’ll be at St. Andrews for the 150th Open Championship later this summer. So we have that to look forward to.

But the star of the week was World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler. The young Texan dominated the field at Augusta National, claiming his fourth win in his last six starts and his first major championship.

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast, Andy Nesbitt and I fully recap the Masters, including Rory McIlroy’s final round 64.

We then get into our RBC Heritage preview including our favorite picks for the week.

And, on top of it all, he thinks he can win.

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast, after we processed our excitement about Woods playing this week, Andy Nesbitt and I discussed Woods’ chances at Augusta National. He currently sits at +5000 on Tipico.

Filling out the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play bracket, previewing the week in Austin, and more

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast: Filling out the Match Play bracket, best bets, picks, and more

After weather dominated the Players Championship, the week we just had in Tampa, Florida, was wonderful and ended on time Sunday afternoon — kinda.

Sam Burns was able to take down PGA Tour rookie Davis Riley in a playoff to claim his second-straight Valspar Championship title and third win in the last 12 months. With his win, Burns decided to take a little vacation before the year’s first men’s major, withdrawing from this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, joining Cameron Smith and Rory McIlroy as some of the big names not traveling to Austin.

But, this week on the Twilight 9 podcast, the focus wasn’t on the Snake Pit, it was on the March Madness-like bracket that was announced Monday. So many stacked groups, so many options, and we ran through them all.

On the show, we went through each group, chose a winner, and continued until we had a champion — and that name might shock you.

We also went through our favorite picks for the week, including Max Homa claiming Group 8.

Cameron Smith may just win a major in 2022, Lahiri earned a lot of fans Monday, plus a Valspar Championship preview

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast: Cam Smith’s triumph, Valspar preview, picks, and more.

Cameron Smith, after one of the weirdest weekends in golf that I can remember, won the Players Championship by one shot over Anirban Lahiri. Despite finding the water on 18, Smith clipped a spinny wedge from 54 yards to tap-in range, forcing Lahiri to make birdie. Lahiri’s birdie chip wasn’t meant to be, and Smith joined a long line of Australians to win the PGA Tour’s biggest event.

The now sixth-ranked player in the game has put the golf world on notice, and will surely be one of the favorites at Augusta in less than a month.

He wasn’t the only one to gain a few fans on Monday however, as Lahiri was nothing short of class after falling short. And, to take a little sting out of the whole week, he won more than $2 million.

Scottie Scheffler is a budding superstar, behind the scenes of a PGA Tour Pro-Am, and a Players Championship preview

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast: Scottie Scheffler’s gutsy win, Rory McIlroy’s comments, and a look at the Players Championship.

People love to throw around the phrases “open the flood gates” and “once he gets that first win, watch out.” The same things were said about Scottie Scheffler after his first PGA Tour win at the WM Phoenix Open a few weeks ago. But after his performance at Bay Hill, the flood gates may be officially open.

Scheffler made gutsy par after gutsy par down the stretch at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and eventually slipped on the famous red cardigan with a winning score of 5 under. Yup, Bay Hill was a monster on the weekend. But, it was a challenge Scheffler faced head-on, and because of that, is now a two-time Tour winner.

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast, Andy and I dive into the week in Orlando and discuss comments Rory McIlroy made after Sunday’s final round about course set up and the games best maybe not returning to Arnie’s place.

We also discuss Andy’s experience playing in the Wednesday Pro-Am at Bay Hill and how nervous he was to hit his first tee shot in front of Jason Kokrak, his playing partner for the day.

A special week ahead at Bay Hill, an Arnold Palmer Invitational preview, and picks for the week

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast: Andy’s playing Bay Hill, an event preview, and much more.

The annual migration to Bay Hill Club and Lodge to honor one of golf’s largest icons will never get old. This week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando is the perfect place to remember the King and his every lasting impact on the game of golf.

The PGA Tour’s biggest stars, including World No.1 Jon Rahm and 2018 champion Rory McIlroy, have descended on the Par 72, over 7,400-yard monster that is Bay Hill.

And Andy Nesbitt will be doing the same Wednesday morning.

The Twilight 9 podcast will have boots on the ground during the pro am scheduled for March 2, and throughout this week’s episode, Andy continued to proclaim he isn’t nervous.

Yeah, right.

But before we jumped into our Arnold Palmer Invitational preview and all of our picks for the week, we discussed the wild Sunday at PGA National. Daniel Berger seemed to have a stranglehold on the tournament, until he didn’t. Sepp Straka saw the opening and attacked, earning himself a PGA Tour win at one of the most difficult venues on the Tour’s circuit.

Two aces, two shirtless PGA Tour pros, and a Genesis Invitational preview

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast: Scheffler’s first, Hoffman’s IG post, a Genesis Invitational preview, and more.

No. 16 at TPC Scottsdale saw a little bit of everything last week at the WM Phoenix Open, including two aces and Harry Higgs and Joel Dahmen going shirtless on the green after finishing up the hole on Sunday.

Golf.

Anyway, this week on the Twilight 9 podcast, the boys discuss Scottie Scheffler’s first PGA Tour win and what this may do for his confidence. Charley Hoffman set the golf social media world on fire with a controversial Instagram post (that has since been deleted) about the PGA Tour not protecting its players — this made for a great roast of Mr. Hoffman.

The fellas also preview this week’s Genesis Invitational and discuss their favorite betting picks for the week.

Jordan Spieth made par after staring death in the face, plus a WM Phoenix Open preview

This week on Twilight 9: Spieth’s cliff heroics, Phil calls Tour greedy, WMPO preview, and more.

What a week in golf.

This week on the Twilight 9 podcast, Andy and I had a lot to cover.

Jordan Spieth, hanging from the edge of a cliff on the 8th at Pebble Beach, made one of the best pars you’ll ever see. He’s the only player in the world who could have made par from there.

Phil Mickelson, yes, the man who reportedly won $8 million thanks to a brand-new initiative started by the PGA Tour to reward the game’s most influential players, called the Tour greedy, and because of that may be looking elsewhere to play golf. We dive into that ironic situation.

Harold Varner III won the Saudi International, and that’s the only thing Andy and I know about the event. Might be an early look at how much this new league may change golf. Hint: not a whole lot.

The last segment of the show is our preview for this week’s WM Phoenix Open, including our betting targets for the event.

Twilight 9 podcast: Luke List’s first PGA Tour win, Torrey Pines delivers again, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am preview with betting outlook

Yet another week losing an outright pick in a playoff.

Busy week in the golf world. Lydia Ko gets No. 21. Luke List gets No. 1. And Riley lost another outright winner in a playoff.

Sick!

This week on the show Andy and I talk about Torrey Pines, and despite mixed feelings about the golf course, it delivers every single time the PGA Tour is there. It’s uncanny.

We also dive in on Will Zalatoris and his, let’s just say less than confident, putting stroke from inside five feet.

Then we jump into our preview for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. It’s always good to be back on the Monterey Peninsula, and not only is the PGA Tour back, but the amateurs are as well after a year hiatus due to COVID-19.

Our betting segment is loaded with players we’re targeting this week and hopefully, we can finally capitalize on an outright winner.
