Dennis Allen says Michael Thomas’ tweets will be handled ‘in-house’

Michael Thomas took his frustrations to social media during the Saints-Lions game. Dennis Allen says the issue will be handled internally:

Michael Thomas might not be on the New Orleans Saints in 2024, and it feels even more unlikely if Dennis Allen and Derek Carr are back with the team. The wide receiver was as frustrated as many Saints fans during the beginning of New Orleans’ game with the Detroit Lions in Week 13.

How do we know? Thomas sent out a series of tweets that seemed to be shots directed at Carr, starting with the quarterback’s interception on a deflected pass that could have been thrown to a wide-open receiver on the other side of the field. It’s not the first time Thomas has gone at Carr on social media.

Asked about these tweets during his Monday presser, Allen said he was only made aware of them after the game and that it would be handled privately. Thomas’ account was deleted later Sunday afternoon.

“We’ll keep that in-house,” Allen said.

This is a matter that is better handled behind closed doors. Thomas is clearly upset with the direction of the team, and he’s never been shy about showing his emotions.

It would be one thing for a fan or even a media member to tweet criticism during the game, but it’s uncommon to see a player do this. When it does happen, it doesn’t seem to end well for both parties involved. It’s a shame that it’s come to this when Thomas helped recruit Carr to New Orleans in the first place.

Chris Jones posts cryptic tweets as holdout continues

Star defensive lineman Chris Jones seems to be at a standstill in negotiations with the #Chiefs as training camp moves into its second week.

Chris Jones’ status will be a top storyline to monitor as the Kansas City Chiefs move into their second week of training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. The team has been hard at work preparing for the season but is without its top defender as Jones, who is in the final year of his contract, seeks an extension.

Jones is the second-highest-paid player on the Chiefs behind quarterback Patrick Mahomes and is rumored to be asking for $30 million or more per year in his next deal.

The star defensive lineman posted some cryptic tweets over the weekend, but it is unclear whether they had anything to do with his holdout.

The veracity of information out there regarding Jones’ specific demands isn’t clear, but it is a fact that the star defensive lineman has held out from training camp to give himself leverage in negotiations with general manager Brett Veach.

For now, it seems all Kansas City fans can do is wait for a resolution and hope that one of the players who reported to St. Joseph can step up to fill his shoes should the stalemate last through August and into the regular season.

Everyone is already buzzing about Sean Payton maybe going to the Chargers

Everyone is buzzing about Sean Payton maybe going to the Chargers. Their stunning playoff loss makes things interesting for Saints fans:

Will Sean Payton be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers? That’s the question seemingly on everyone’s mind as the Jacksonville Jaguars eliminated the Chargers from the playoffs on Saturday night, erasing a 27-point lead and putting L.A. coach Brandon Staley’s job status in jeopardy.

Jacksonville’s game-winning field goal kick hadn’t even finished sailing through the uprights before hundreds of messages erupted on social media congratulating Payton on being hired by the Chargers. Now, just to be clear, the Chargers have not fired Staley nor have they so much as requested an interview with Payton. But his interest in their opening, should it occur, has been well-established. It feels like only a matter of time before both sides begin exchanging pleasantries.

In the meantime, here are some of the immediate reactions and takeaways from Twitter on what this means for the Chargers, the Saints, and Sean Payton:

Best Twitter reactions from Chiefs’ Week 15 win over Saints

The Chiefs advance to 13-1 with a win over the Saints. Check out the best reactions from the Twitter timeline here.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 13-1 with the best record in the NFL after a Week 15 win over the New Orleans Saints. This was an extremely competitive game and like most of the Chiefs’ games lately, it came down to the wire. There were some lighter moments in the game, but the drama also made for some great reactions from observers on Twitter.

Below you’ll find some of the best Twitter reactions from throughout the game:

San Jose State had one of the great, all-time petty tweets after beating Boise State

The planning this must have taken…

San Jose State knocked off Boise State on Saturday in an exciting Mountain West conference championship game, winning 34-20 and clinching a perfect 7-0 record on the year.

After the game, San Jose State’s Twitter feed put out one of the greatest petty tweets I’ve ever seen. To understand it, though, you need a little context.

So, these two teams were meant to face off earlier this season, but the game was called off when Boise State had several members of the team and staff test positive for COVID-19. At the time, many Boise State fans said that San Jose State was lucky to have avoided their team, and only because of that cancelation was San Jose State able to go undefeated and get to the conference title game.

…But then San Jose State beat Boise State, and after the game, coordinated a video clip of their players lip syncing OMC’s hit song “How Bizarre” while holding the trophy.

They won the game, and then their social team had the wherewithal to edit together this video making fun of Boise State and ACTUALLY GET THEIR PLAYERS TO LIP SYNC IT IN THE LOCKER ROOM AFTER THE GAME.

Raises for everyone on the San Jose State social team. Double raises.

Twitter reactions from Chiefs’ Week 5 loss to Raiders

Here are some reactions from Twitter after the game…

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season 40-32 to the Las Vegas Raiders in a back-and-forth game. It stings a bit more, seeing their win streak come to an end against their biggest rival within the AFC West division. All-in-all there’s work to be done in Kansas City and Las Vegas is heading home within one game of a share of the division lead.

Here’s a look at some of the Twitter reactions following the game:

Mahomes had another confusing game

Mahomes was brilliant at times against the Raiders’ defense. Other times he was utterly perplexed. If you look at the stat sheet, it certainly wasn’t a bad game for Mahomes. It seems like these types of games are becoming more prevalent in his career, but they’re much more noticeable when the Chiefs don’t notch the win.

Defensive meltdown

The defense had been tremendous through the first quarter of the season for Kansas City. Against Derek Carr and the Raiders, they were exposed in a big way. The secondary gave up big chunk plays and the run defense struggled to slow down Las Vegas’ rushing attack.

The sky isn’t falling

Things might look bleak today, but it’s still early on in the season and this loss can motivate the Chiefs to be better. Just look at what happened last season…

Rams punter Johnny Hekker calls for boycott of NFL RedZone in perfect tweet

RedZone promised not to show punts. Hekker took offense, as he should.

Johnny Hekker is one of the great punters in NFL history already, and he’s still in the prime of his career. The 30-year-old footsmith has already earned NFL first team All Pro honors four times, and is a four-time Pro Bowler.

He’s so good that he’s actually made Rams punts — something usually to ignore, or perhaps use as an excuse to run to the restroom — must-watch TV. He’s so good that we’ve blogged about him multiple times. A punter!

In any event, Hekker is on a solitary crusade to make punting cool and appreciated, which is why a tweet from NFL RedZone host Andrew Siciliano rankled him so much on Sunday.

Siciliano implored people to tune in to his show with his tweet, then included a GIF that promised “we don’t show punts.”

Hekker responded the only appropriate way:

Siciliano, to his credit, said they would make an exception, possibly, for Hekker.

I’ll be tuning in today, and I better see a Hekker punt or two. If not, I will be forced to listen to Johnny, and walk away from RedZone. I love punts.

Best Twitter reactions from Chiefs’ Week 2 win over Chargers

The Chiefs are 2-0 to start the season. Check out the best reactions from the Twitter timeline here.

The Kansas City Chiefs vanquished the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime to advance to 2-0 on the 2020 season. It didn’t come easy, but it ended in an all-too-familiar way for many rivals of the Chiefs. Here’s a look at some of the best tweets recounting the game:

A rough start

The game started out ugly for Kansas City. The defense was letting up some long plays, the offense couldn’t get things going. The Chargers pass rushers were all over Mahomes. Everything was going wrong for the Chiefs, but it was only a matter of time before things went right.

Patrick Mahomes is undefeated in September

Mahomes was under constant duress in the first quarter. After the first few hits, he remembered that he’s undefeated in the month of September. He flipped the switch, turned it on and by the fourth quarter the Chiefs were right back in it to force overtime. He didn’t accomplish the win without some Mahomes magic on the way.

Harrison Butker is legendary

Some teams can’t find a kicker who can consistently make kicks from 30 yards out, but Harrison Butker made not one, not two, not three, but four 58-yard field goals in this game. Only two of them actually counted, one being the game-winner in overtime. The consistency and poise from Butker are unmatched.

Butker could have made it from longer too.

A hard-fought victory for Kansas City as they head to enemy territory once again with the Baltimore Ravens on deck in Week 3.

LeBron James explains why voting alone isn’t a fix to structural racism

LeBron does it again.

LeBron James has never shied away from using his voice and his platform to shine a light on the ills of systemic racism.

These issues are a complex web and will require a sustained effort that digs away at institutional injustice to dismantle.  Often times, the argument presented for fighting back against social ills is that people simply go out and vote.

It’s simplistic, reductive advice, and LeBron James, for one, doesn’t have any patience for it. In a short tweet, James pointed out how meaningless the go out and vote advice is. Early Tuesday, James quote-tweeted political reporter Laura Barrón-López, who wrote that it took Black Lives Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown three hours to vote in her predominately black neighborhood in Georgia.

James drilled down into the heart of why that’s a problem.

“Everyone talking about “how do we fix this?”  They say “go out and vote?”  What about asking if how we vote is also structurally racist?” he wrote

People tend to use voting as the first answer in fixing these systematic issues the U.S. faces, but that doesn’t check out. This James tweet perfectly shows why.

Voter suppression is a real thing. Black people, other people of color and poor people have a much harder time going out to vote than their white, affluent counterparts. If the country is going to see some meaningful change, dealing with voter suppression and gerrymandering are one of the many issues that need to be fixed. James is highlighting this.

Good on LeBron for recognizing this and lending his voice to it. One thing we can all agree on, is that voting shouldn’t be this hard.
