Frank Lampard has Chelsea fans in dreamland with how he’s turned the club’s fortunes around in such a short period of time since taking over as manager. Even more impressive is that he’s done it all while the club is under a transfer ban. Implementing young talents such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic has done wonders for the team’s form and long-term sustainability. It could be argued that the transfer ban forced this infusion of youth that likely wouldn’t have happened if Chelsea could splash the cash on top transfers like they usually do. The Blues actually come into this big matchup in third place, one point above City.

The international break has left Manchester City alone with its thoughts after a demoralizing 3-1 loss to Liverpool. With Liverpool now nine points ahead in the title race, Man City cannot afford another misstep or it may fall out of the chase altogether. Injuries to its backline have really hurt City. Aymeric Laporte’s long-term absence from the lineup has had a lasting effect on the entire team. Goals haven’t been an issue for City’s extremely talented squad, but conceding them at the wrong times certainly has. A loss to Chelsea would be the worst case scenario for this side. Can the team withstand the pressure and get the job done?

Penn State vs. Ohio State

Penn State will have to do something that only one other Big Ten team has been able to accomplish since 2011. OSU has lost exactly one Big Ten game at home since 2011. However, The Nittany Lions nearly beat the Buckeyes in Columbus two years ago.

The winner of this game has not only won the East but the entire Big Ten, three seasons in a row. The last three meetings have been decided by a combined five points. In all three of those games, the winning team rallied from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter.

Defensive end Chase Young returns for the Buckeyes after a two-game suspension. He is the heart and soul of the defense and teams have to take extra time preparing just for him. The last time the superstar stepped on the field at the Horseshoe, he delivered four sacks against Wisconsin. Ohio State is also ranked first in the country in total defense, allowing 216 yards per game.

While Young has been getting a lot of attention, so has quarterback Justin Fields, who in his first year as OSU’s quarterback, has 31 touchdowns and just one interception. Last weekend against Rutgers, Fields went 15-for-19 with 305 yards and four touchdowns in a 56-21 win. Running back J.K. Robbins also has 13 touchdowns on the season and is averaging seven yards per carry.

How healthy are the Nittany Lions. Running back Noah Cain did more in warmups last Saturday than he did at Minnesota, but he still did not play against Indiana. With the absence of Cain, Journey Brown has stepped in. For the second week in a row, he rushed for at least 100 yards. Star wide receiver K.J. Hamler left last week’s game with an injury, but head coach James Franklin said the team is hopeful it will have Hamler this weekend. He has the speed to change a game in one play. Hamler turned a short reception into a 93-yard catch-and-run score against the Buckeyes at Beaver Stadium last season.

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford sure hopes Hamler will return. Hamler is his go-to wide receiver. Clifford ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in the Lions’ 34-27 win over Indiana. The redshirt sophomore is ranked first in the Big Ten in total offense (2,450 passing yards, 374 rushing yards).

The Penn State defense has shown its vulnerabilities these last few games but has still been solid this season. PSU has allowed a total of 58 points in the last two games and the secondary struggled to keep up with the Minnesota and Indiana passing attacks. Ohio State’s offense is better than both of those, so the secondary will need to step up its game.

Two of the Premier League’s most out of form teams will pit their records against one another when sixth-place Arsenal hosts Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The two teams boast a combined total of one win from each of their last six games, and Unai Emery is under extreme pressure to bag three points at home.

Arsenal vs. Southampton

When: Saturday, November 23

Time: 10:00 a.m. ET

TV: NBC

Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Tuesday evening brought the news that Mauricio Pochettino had been Tottenham Hotspur, perhaps the less expected dismissal in north London during this international break. Emery may count himself fortunate not to have been the first to go considering Arsenal has won once in its last seven games, still licking its wounds from a 2-0 loss at Leicester City in Week 12.

Saints chief Ralph Hasenhuttl doesn’t have the same weight of expectation on the south coast, but there’s a growing sense the Austrian is also riding the last of his luck at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Hasenhuttl’s first win as a manager in England was a 3-2 surprise result against Arsenal in December at home, though the Premier League appears more wise to his tactics now.

His side hasn’t won a match in its last seven outings and suffered defeat in six of those. A 1-1 draw away to the Wolverhampton Wanderers last month accounts for the only point Southampton has claimed from the last possible 21.

As fate would have it, the Gunners’ last Premier League point came following a 1-1 draw of their own against the Wolves on Nov. 2. Following a 2-2 result against Crystal Palace one week prior, this was the second home game in a row that Arsenal lost a lead to a draw.

The same happened again in its Europa League visit to Vitoria on Nov. 6 when Bruno Duarte scored late and canceled out Shkodran Mustafi’s 80th-minute opener.

There won’t be any excuses for Arsenal should it fail to clinch maximum spoils on Saturday. Dani Ceballos is the only injury concern after he suffered a hamstring injury before the international break, giving the manager an almost fully fit selection.

Southampton has a limited injury list, too, with the Republic of Ireland forward Michael Obafemi being its only concern before the trip to north London.

Hasenhuttl’s side surprised Arsenal on home soil in December, but the Saints haven’t beaten the Gunners away from home in league competition since November 1987.

Defeat at the Emirates could spell the end of either manager’s reign depending on the nature of the result, with both bosses feeling the heat approaching a tense winter schedule.

Tottenham Hotspur may have found the one opponent that has been more disappointing than them this season. West Ham finds itself just five points above the relegation zone with just 13 points through 12 matches. Manager Manuel Pellegrini’s job is under fire after the extremely poor start. The Hammers added several promising signings in the summer to an already talented squad. Many expected them to compete for a Europa League and even possibly challenge for the Top Four. Unfortunately, those prognostications haven’t come true. Tottenham hasn’t won any competition since its 2-0 win over Manchester United on September 22.

The Spurs are just one point better in the table, sitting in 14th. The downfall of Tottenham is possibly the most surprising story of the European season so far considering it was playing in the Champions League final less than six months ago. Mauricio Pochettino’s side has a ton of work to do to get back on track. It won’t be easy away from home where they haven’t won a match since January. It’s clear that the Spurs have the talent to succeed and turn around their season, the question is, have things become too out of hand behind the scenes to salvage their campaign?

The final international break of 2019 is over, and club football resumes for what will be a furious four-month stretch until national team play happens again next March. Barcelona vs. Leganes

Barcelona has had a very inconsistent season and fans all around the world are not happy. They’re calling for manager Ernesto Valverde’s head and want players like Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suárez to be gone as soon as possible. For all of that to happen, though, the club must go through tragedy on the pitch, something bad enough to provoke huge changes. Due to a brutal schedule, in a very realistic scenario, Barça could be out of the Champions League and behind its biggest rivals after losing El Clásico to Real Madrid, and it would be nearly impossible to keep things as they are if all of that takes place.

Obviously, the players and the coach don’t want tragedy. They must start the tough stretch with a statement of intent, and facing the bottom of the table Leganés away from home where Barça has historically had success is a perfect way. Get a big win and gain some confidence before the first tough game in that schedule against Borussia Dortmund at home. This team has been so inconsistent and so bad on the road, however, that even Leganés can beat them. Barça is under pressure, and they must respond.

Stunning images from world’s best action sports photographers

The world’s best photographers in action and adventure sports met in Italy to celebrate the winners of the Red Bull Illume Image Quest 2019.

The world’s best photographers in action and adventure sports assembled at the Museum of Mountain Photography in Italy on Wednesday to celebrate the winners of the Red Bull Illume Image Quest 2019.

The images are nothing short of spectacular, leading off with the overall winner, France’s Ben Thouard, who captured an underwater shot of surfer Ace Buchan in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, in French Polynesia.

Photos courtesy of Red Bull Illume Image Quest 2019.

Overall Winner, Image Quest 2019 © Ben Thouard / Red Bull Illume

Ben Thouard of France: “Tahiti has some of the clearest water in the world so it was easy for me to take advantage of it and explore it as much as I could. This photo was shot during a free surf session right before the WCT event in Teahupo‘o. This is Ace Buchan kicking out from the barrel through the wave, a technique to escape a close-out wave.

“Luckily, I was right below, breathless with my water housing waiting for this moment and I was able to capture the whole sequence of it; this frame from the beginning of the sequence is the most powerful one because of the water around his face and body.”

Winner, SanDisk Extreme Award © Philip Platzer / Red Bull Illume

Philip Platzer of Austria: “I took the photo for Red Bull during the V-Max Project at the Atacama Desert in Chile in 2016. The high-speed mountain biker Markus Stöckl tried to beat the world record in speed with a serial MTB – which was a success, he reached 167.6 km/h [104.2 mph]…

“To get the final result I had to do some extra work in PhotoShop: First of all I stitched the panorama, in the end it was made out of six single shots. After this I had to add the sequence, which was quite an issue because of the stitching. Everything was slightly distorted and it took some time to fit the 44 shots of Max back into the scenery.”

Winner, Salewa Trophy © Kamil Sustiak / Red Bull Illume

Kamil Sustiak of Australia: “We arrived to the line surrounded by fog so thick that we could almost not see each other. An hour passed and we could only sense the sunrise that was supposed to make this morning so special.

“I was ready to bail when all of a sudden the fog dropped just a tiny bit down into the valley and showed us what was actually going on around us. This spectacular scenery lasted for about an hour before the clouds underneath us disappeared and the world turned normal again.”

Category Winner, Creative by Skylum © Philip Platzer / Red Bull Illume

Philip Platzer of Austria: “Together with the Red Bull Skydive Team, I did this crazy Project called “Megaswing“ back in 2016. After my assignment I already knew this had to be a tricky one: Two Hot Air Balloons, one with a long rope attached and the other one to jump out with the swing, and of course the Skydiver with his parachute.

“After the first couple of jumps I realized that I wouldn’t get the perfect shot by simply shooting from the inside of the basket they were jumping out of. Lucky me, I had my monopod in the car as well as a pair of radio-triggers. My solution to get the right angle was to hold the camera, that I had attached to my monopod, as deep under the basket and just hope to get the perfect framing.

“In the end it was the very last try which gave us the money shot.”

Category Winner, Creative by Skylum © Noah Wetzel / Red Bull Illume

Noah Wetzel of the U.S.: “After weeks of preparation and creative conception, I loaded my Subaru and headed north to Wyoming for the Total Solar Eclipse in August of 2017. Arriving a couple days before the eclipse, I linked up with athletes Chris Brule, Evan Grott, and Blake Sommer. The imagery goal was to capture the Eclipse and showcase mountain biking utilizing an in-camera double exposure – a very complex process.”

Category Winner, Playground © Lorenz Holder / Red Bull Illume

Lorenz Holder of Germany: “The Ouse Valley Viaduct is pretty cool old railway bridge in the South of England. When you approach it from the side, you can‘t really see the secret this bridge has to offer, but once you get underneath of one of the arches you can‘t believe your eyes. You are caught in a place that could easily be in the movie ‘Inception.’ The arches create a very surreal visual effect – when you are taking a picture, you don‘t understand if you are looking down into something or at least you get very confused about what you‘re actually seeing. I was blown away by this fact, but also blown away that this looked like a pretty good spot for skateboarding.”

Category Winner, Masterpiece by EyeEm © Lorenz Holder / Red Bull Illume

Lorenz Holder of Germany: “The first time I saw this location was when I was watching ‘Game of Thrones’ and I was blown away by the pure magic this road generated in me. First, I thought that it‘s of course a CGI composition, but after a little research I found out that this place is actually real and located in Northern Ireland. A year later I was actually standing there with Senad Grosic and trying to get a bunny-hop-tailwhip on camera.”

Category Winner, Lifestyle © Alexander Wick / Red Bull Illume

Alexander Wick of Germany: “Together with my boys Phil and Chris I went on a U.S. West Coast climbing trip. Obviously Yosemite is a must and so we tested our very humble European crack climbing skills right away on El Capitan‘s Salathé Wall. A climb I‘ve been dreaming of for quite a while.”

Category Winner, Innovation by Sony © Laurence Crossman-Emms / Red Bull Illume

Laurence Crossman-Emms of the U.K.: “Blaenau Ffestiniog was once described as the wettest place in Wales, this is no lie. Even when the sun shines, the puddles are plentiful. I’ve always been attracted to their animations when struck by a bicycle at full steep, the tires of Katy Winton making the perfect parting of this muddy sea.”

Category Winner, Emerging by Red Bull Photography © JB Liautard / Red Bull Illume

Jean-Baptiste Liautard of France: “Two things that I love when it comes to photography are silhouettes and reflections and I wanted to use both in a single frame for a long time. After a lot of drawings, I knew what I wanted but it took me six months to get the perfect conditions and final ideas.

”Jeremy‘s trail is a piece of art and this jump is definitely a highlight.”

Category Winner, Creative by Skylum © Denis Klero / Red Bull Illume

Denis Klero of Russia: “Last year‘s trend reports have shown that as soon as the first snow starts falling the social media community bursts in excitement and instantly shares videos and photos showing the first flakes of the year. I didn‘t want to miss out on the trend and started working on a concept to show the change of seasons.

“To attract the attention of the social media world it had to be something that would make one stop and stare. Consequently, I developed an idea of a series of three main pictures with some supporting detail shots, which had to be visually strong and inherent to the world of Red Bull. This picture with Pavel is one of those.”

Category Winner, Best of Instagram by SanDisk © Baptiste Fauchille / Red Bull Illume

Baptiste Fauchille of France: “This photo was taken at the bowl of Fillinges. I remember the heat was insane like it rarely had been in the Alps. When I arrived on the spot the first thought I had in mind was to make a top-shot video with the drone: a fixed plan with a rider who makes his line with the intention of creating a loop. Then I realized that the bowl was really clean: no tags, no dust. I was able to have the rider and his shadow to come out well. I asked Alex Bibollet — one of the riders — to do what he did best, and I immortalized this moment!”

The Clippers may have landed the best player in the NBA when acquiring Leonard during the offseason. As the reigning Finals MVP, Leonard’s combination of defensive ability and scoring acumen has him consistently talked about as the best all-around player in the league. Combined with the newly acquired Paul George, the Clippers have two stars that can potentially carry them to the promised land.

But the NBA is about depth as much as it is about star power, and the Clippers have that as well. Defending sixth man of the year Lou Williams is still available to give second units around the league nightmares, while players like Montrezl Harrell should see easier opportunities now that defenses have to focus on Leonard and George. Whether this group can get on the same page in time for a postseason run remains to be seen, but this unit could be the most exciting in the history of the Clippers.
