Watch Cuba vs. USA Live Online.

The United States will complete a dramatic turnaround to top Group A in the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League on Tuesday evening—provided the team defeats host Cuba.

The first round of the Nations League draws to a climactic close, with Gregg Berhalter’s side in need of a win if it wants to leapfrog incumbent group leader Canada and advance.

The Stars and Stripes sit three points off the top of their League A pool, but a 4-1 redemption win over Canada on Friday meant they’ll edge a tiebreaker if the two finish level.

Canada surprised the favorites, 2-0, in Toronto in October, leaving Berhalter’s men in an uncertain spot. However, Gyasi Zardes scored in the 89th minute to complete his brace in the return fixture, leaving the United States ahead 4-3 in its two fixtures against John Herdman’s side.

Cuba suffered a 7-0 hammering when it traveled to the U.S. one month ago. Weston McKennie scored a hat-trick in the first 13 minutes of that meeting, though the 21-year-old hasn’t had a direct goal contribution in 180 minutes played since then.

The Truman Bodden Sports Complex holds a maximum capacity of 3,000, and it’s very likely few of those attending in the Cayman Islands will be rooting for the guests. Berhalter recently spoke to reporters about needing to take Cuba seriously, especially when the team is on the road and the intensity is high.

The United States has only two wins in its last six games, but a run of 10 consecutive victories over Cuba suggests Tuesday’s meeting is its to lose. Cuba has lost the last three of those without managing to score—an aggregate scoreline of 15-0.

The goal is clear for Berhalter’s men: Victory will secure a spot in the Nations League semifinals in June, while a result for Cuba would see them finish second in Group A and end its run through the inaugural tournament.

Boating family in awe as whale ‘pops up’ in Avalon Harbor

A young gray whale generated lots of excitement Saturday afternoon when it surfaced inside the harbor at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island.

A young gray whale generated lots of excitement Saturday afternoon when it surfaced inside the harbor at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island.

“Whale in the harbor… right under the boat!” exclaims Jon Quarnstrom, in the first video clip accompanying this post. “A whale… right here!”

Quarnstrom, 38, a lifelong Catalina resident, told For The Win Outdoors that he and his young sons, Gavin and Kanon, and their dog Bali were crossing the harbor in their skiff when the whale “popped up looking right at my kids.”

RELATED: Whale swims beneath surfers, but do they even notice?

Bali, his tail tucked firmly between his legs, is not sure what to make of the surfacing whale.

“We see them all the time around the island during seasonal passes, but I’ve only seen this once before in the harbor,” said Quarnstrom, who works in a local steakhouse. “I was definitely shocked.”

[protected-iframe id=”f1900297c27d161c6bf165dcc0ec7c59-58289342-114731612″ info=”https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FCatalinaIslandGuide%2Fvideos%2F3224599457581425%2F&show_text=0&width=560″ width=”560″ height=”315″ frameborder=”0″ style=”border: none; overflow: hidden;” scrolling=”no”]

In the second video clip, shared Monday to the Catalina Island Facebook page, viewers can hear Quarnstrom’s commentary before his skiff enters the picture.

He’s not a safe distance, having apparently become caught up in the moment, but the mammal eventually departed the harbor to continue its journey.

The whale is one of a handful of juvenile gray whales to have been spotted recently off Southern California. These early sightings are in advance of a southbound migration, from feeding areas off Alaska to breeding areas off Mexico, that peaks locally in January.

Gray whales often migrate past the so-called backside of Catalina, keeping the land to their left on the southbound journey, said whale researcher Alisa-Schulman-Janiger.

Gray whale sightings inside Avalon Harbor, on the front side facing the mainland, are extremely rare.

Uruguay and Argentina are set to play a friendly in extraordinary conditions. The scheduled match that will take place in Israel was under threat of cancellation due to recent conflict, but will be played as planned. Uruguay topped Hungary 2-1 last week with Edinson Cavani and Brian Rodriguez finding the net. They dominated the match from start to finish, controlling 64 percent of possession time and attempting 20 shots in the process. La Celeste is unbeaten in five matches since this summer’s Copa America, winning three times and drawing twice during that span.

Lionel Messi scored the lone goal in his side’s 1-0 win over rivals Brazil in Saudi Arabia. It was the 69th international goal of his illustrious career. Just like their opponents, the Argentinians too are unbeaten since CONMEBOL’s showcase tournament this summer.

While sports may not be the biggest concern surrounding this friendly, it still means something. This very well may be the most high-profile soccer match ever played in this area of the world. A sell out happened soon after tickets went on sale, with over 30,000 tickets sold.

How to Watch Bears vs. Rams, NFL Week 11 Live Stream, Schedule, TV Channel, Start Time

Watch Bears vs. Rams Live Online.

The Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams first played each other in 1937 with the Bears winning both games that year. Fast forward 82 years later and the Bears are still in Chicago, but the Rams have since moved to Los Angeles. Chicago leads the all-time series 54-36-3, including a 15-6 home win in 2018. It was a sloppy game that saw Rams quarterback Jared Goff and Mitch Trubisky of the Bears threw a combined seven interceptions.

Have the tides turned in Chicago? The Bears snapped a four-game losing streak with a 20-13 victory over the Lions at home last weekend. The team punted on their first four possessions, but the offense picked it up after that. Mitch Trubisky threw for 173 yards and tied a season-high with three touchdowns. Allen Robinson led the team with six catches for 83 yards. However, the offense is ranked near the bottom of every major statistic. The Lions posted 357 yards compared to the Bears 226 in the game. Chicago will need to do a much better job in converting on third down. The team was just two of 12 last weekend.

The Bears’ defense recorded two sacks on Matt Stafford’s backup quarterback Jeff Driskel and is, holding opponents to an average of 17.4 points per game, fourth-best in the NFL. Roquan Smith led the team with 11 tackles while Nick Kwiatoski added nine more and recorded his first career interception.

Los Angeles’ offensive woes continued in a 17-12 loss on the road against the Steelers last weekend. Jared Goff completed 22 of 41 passes for 243 yards and two interceptions. Goff has nine interceptions already this season, just shy of his season-high 12 from last year. One positive was the performance of running back Todd Gurley, who has struggled for most of 2019. Gurley rushed for 73 yards, his second-highest total of the year, behind only his 97-yard performance in Week 1. Robert Woods led the team with seven catches for 95 yards. However,  the Steelers defense took advantage of four turnovers throughout the game. The Rams are sixth in the league in passing yards with an average of 279.6 per game. That is their bread and butter, but a productive Gurley could make this squad less one dimensional.

The Steelers offense didn’t beat the Rams, it was mistaken by Los Angeles that led them to victory. Pittsburgh totaled just 273 yards of offense and converted a mere five of 16 third-down attempts. L.A.’s defensive front stuffed the run to the tune of just 42 yards and two-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald showed his dominance with six tackles and one sack against the Steelers.

How to Watch Bengals vs. Raiders, NFL Week 11 Live Stream, Schedule, TV Channel, Start Time

Watch Bengals vs. Raiders Live Online.

When the Oakland Raiders host the winless Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11, they’ll have a great frame of reference for the struggles their opponents are enduring. During quarterback Derek Carr’s rookie season with Oakland, they started off 0-10, before picking up the first win of his career. He knows all too well that no team is satisfied with losing and no game will be easy to win despite what the records say.

The Raiders made a point this week when talking to the media about the Bengals that records don’t matter to them. David Carr was especially adamant about it, saying he knows the Bengals are going to “bring it”.

Carr added his 14th passing touchdown of the season in the Raiders’ 26-24 win over the Chargers in Week 10. The victory was Oakland’s second straight and got the team over the .500 mark. At 5-4, they’re on the heels of the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West. Another win would put some big pressure on their divisional rivals.

Meanwhile, the bottom is lonely for Cincinnati, as the Bengals are the lone winless team remaining in the NFL. A change at quarterback was made for their Week 10 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Rookie Ryan Finley came in for veteran Andy Dalton for his first career start. It was an up and down debut as he threw for a touchdown, but also had a few turnovers in a 49-13 loss. It appears that it’s Finley’s ship to steer from here on out as the Bengals look for answers in the short and long-term.

The Dallas Cowboys look to avoid back-to-back losses after falling 28-24 against the Vikings last weekend. Dak Prescott threw for 397 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb both tallied over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. However, the running game and Ezekiel Elliott struggled. Elliott carried the ball 20 times for just 47 yards. The Cowboys are the No. 1 offense in the NFL (437.4 YPG), third in passing (299.2 YPG), and fifth in rushing (139.2 YPG). No matter how you put it, the Cowboys can put up points and will be tough for any defense to stop.

While Elliott struggled, Dalvin Cook was a difference-maker in the game. Cook made a fool of the Cowboys defense with 183 total yards of offense. Minnesota also managed to convert 57 percent of its first downs and a total of 364 yards in the game. Linebackers Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch are playmakers in the middle and tallied 13 tackles each on Sunday during Sunday night’s game. The Cowboys are a top 10 defense in points allowed, total yards allowed and passing yards allowed, but are in the middle of the pack when it comes to stopping the run.

Detroit has lost its last two games, including last weekend’s 20-13 defeat in Chicago. Jeff Driskel filled in at quarterback for the injured Matt Stafford (back) and completed 27 of 46 passes for 269 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Driskel, who will make another start this weekend also added 37 yards rushing. Marvin Jones led the team with five catches for 77 yards. Driskel is no Stafford, but the team’s game plan will still rely heavily on airing it out, where they are averaging 291.2 YPG.

The defensive unit had four sacks on Bears’ quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who was 16 of 23 for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Tavon Wilson and Tre Flowers each had seven tackles and one interception. Detroit is ranked 30th out of 32 teams in total yards allowed (402.1) and that doesn’t bode well against the league’s best offense. All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay will have the tough task of defending Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper.

The NFC South has long been one of the toughest divisions in football, with the unpredictability of the division being one of the staples of the NFL for years. This season, the Carolina Panthers find themselves in the hunt for the division lead, while the Falcons have taken a step back. Atlanta pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2019 NFL season in their last game, beating the New Orleans Saints in a surprising 26-9 road victory. The Falcons defense held the normally potent Saints offense to three field goals for the entirety of the contest, while Atlanta scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Dan Quinn’s team held the Saints to just 52 rushing yards for the game, with star running back Alvin Kamara only putting up 24 yards on the ground. If Atlanta’s defense can bring the same intensity for the rest of the season, Atlanta will have something positive to build on heading into next season.

Carolina suffered one of the more heartbreaking defeats of the 2019 season in its last game, a 24-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Panthers outgained the Packers, but turned the ball over twice and got stopped at the one-yard line as time expired. That loss put the Panthers two full games behind the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South race and two games out of the final wild card spot in the NFC, which will force the Panthers to play with a sense of urgency as they attempt to get back into the playoff hunt.

New York picked up its second win of the season last weekend by beating the Giants 34-27. Sam Darnold completed 19 of 30 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown. Darnold also added 25 yards on the ground. Le’Veon Bell continued to struggle at running back with 18 carries for 34 yards and one touchdown. Demaryius Thomas led all Jets’ receivers with a career-high 84 yards, while Jamison Crowder reeled in five catches for 81 yards and a score.

While the Jets offense ranks in the bottom three in points, total yards, passing yards and rushing yards, their defense has been their strength all season. They gave up 308 yards and four passing touchdowns to Daniel Jones, but did manage to pressure him and compile six sacks. The Giants were forced to pass because they absolutely eliminated the run game. Saquon Barkley was held to just one yard on 13 carries. As a team, they have allowed opponents an average of 81.9 YPG, second-best in the NFL. Jamal Adams led the team with nine tackles and two sacks.

The Washington Redskins lone win of the season came against the Miami Dolphins in a 17-16 victory. They are 1-8 this season, including a 24-9 loss in Buffalo two weeks ago. Rookie first-round pick Dwayne Haskins threw for 144 yards and failed to record a touchdown. The team recently announced that Haskins would be the starter for the remainder of the season. Adrian Peterson has been productive in recent weeks at running back. The veteran totaled 18 carries for 108 yards, his second 100 yard game of the season. Despite an average of 96 yards in his last four games, Peterson has failed to reach the end zone. We’ll see if a bye week will spark a lackluster Redskins offense that’s only converted 22 of 91 third down plays.

It’s hard on a defense when your offense hasn’t scored for 13 straight quarters. The Redskins were able to hold Buffalo to under 300 yards of total offense (282) and had some key stops of running back Frank Gore near the end zone. Landon Collins led the team with nine tackles, while Josh Norman chipped in with seven. With two of the worst offenses in the league going head to head, defense to be the difference maker in this game.

The Jets (2-7) and Redskins (1-8) reunite in a matchup between two of the worst teams in the NFL this season. Whoever loses this game will be one step closer to the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. The Jets have won the last two games, including a 30-24 home win in 2015.

Two weeks ago, the Jaguars dropped an AFC South game, 26-3, against the Texans. Gardner Minshew completed 27 of 47 passes for 309 yards, two interceptions, and was sacked four times. Following a bye week last week, Minshew Mania has come to an end and the quarterback reins have been handed back over to Nick Foles. Minshew started the previous eight games after Foles suffered a broken clavicle in Week 1. Can Foles, who led the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2017, give this offense a spark and a much needed divisional win? Leonard Fournette will have to run much better than he did against the Texans, who held him to a season-low 40 yards on the ground.

Defensively, the Jaguars have key pieces at each level. Calais Campbell had five tackles and the games only sack against the Texans, while linebacker Myles Jack and cornerback A.J. Bouye each had seven tackles in the game. The unit held Deshaun Watson to 201 yards and two touchdowns passing, but it was the run game that hurt them. Carlos Hyde tallied 160 yards on 19 carries. The defense is ranked 22nd against the run (120.2 YPG) and will face another tough back this weekend with the Colts’ Marlon Mack.

Indianapolis looked like a playoff team at 5-2, but has since dropped two straight contests, a 26-24 loss against the Steelers and a 16-12 loss against the Miami Dolphins. Brian Hoyer started at quarterback in place of the injured Jacoby Brissett. Hoyer threw for 204 yards, one touchdown and a costly three interceptions. They will evaluate Brissett, who suffered a sprained MCL against the Steelers, this week at practice and hope he will be ready to go on Sunday.  Marlon Mack rushed for 74 yards in the loss and has failed to reach the end zone in his last two games. He will need to step up as will the team’s tight ends Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle, who combined for eight catches, 100 yards and one touchdown. Indianapolis will be without their top two wide receivers T.Y. Hilton (injured calf) and Parris Campbell (fractured hand).

While the Colts offense has failed to score many points in the last two weeks, it’s been the defense that has kept them in the games.  Against Miami, the defense tallied three sacks on quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and forced one interception. Darius Leonard was all over the field with 13 tackles and the lone pick. Khari Willis added eight more tackles. The defense has been much improved since the first half of the season and that includes holding teams on third down, as well as in the red zone.

If there was ever a good time for a bye week, the Texans got it in preparation for a red hot Baltimore Ravens team. Houston beat Jacksonville, 26-3, in London last weekend. Deshaun Watson was 22 of 28 for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Offensively, the team received a major boost in the run game from Carlos Hyde, who carried the ball 19 times for a season-high 160 yards, marking his second game this season over the 100-yard mark. DeAndre Hopkins has been relatively quiet this season. Hopkins reeled in eight passes for 48 yards and one touchdown. Houston is ranked fourth in total offense (396.7 YPG) and fourth in rushing yards per game (142.8).

The number one objective for the defense will be to try and slow down Lamar Jackson and the offense. That’s a tall task that even the league’s best defense, the New England Patriots, couldn’t pass. Linebackers Zach Cunningham and Benardick McKinney have 68 and 60 tackles, respectively, and are key contributors for a unit that ranks third in the NFL against the run (84.1YPG).

Baltimore boasts the league’s second-best offense, averaging over 421.7 yards per game. That success starts with quarterback Lamar Jackson. He looked like a human highlight reel in last week’s 49-13 rout of the winless Bengals. He completed 15 of 17 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns for a perfect passer rating of 158.3. On the ground, he was equally impressive with seven carries for 65 yards and one touchdown. Mark Ingram provides a ground and pounds 1-2 punch for the league’s best rushing team (197.2 YPG).  Rookie Marquise “Hollywood” Brown reeled in four catches for 80 yards, as the Ravens won their fifth straight game. The last time they had a streak like that was 2013.

While the Ravens have a slew of offensive weapons, so do the Texans. Watson isn’t as elusive as Jackson, but is one of the best dual threats in the league and can beat you with his arm or with his legs. Running back Carlos Hyde had a breakout game last weekend and hopes to continue that momentum, while DeAndre Hopkins is an All-Pro wide receiver. Baltimore is ranked eighth in the NFL in rush defense, but 20th when it comes to stopping the pass.
