Aaron Rodgers Tuesday recap: Thumb is a ‘little banged up’ after hit on final play vs. Giants

Recapping Aaron Rodgers’ weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” following the Packers’ lost to the Giants.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers addressed the team’s loss to the New York Giants and looked ahead to Sunday’s game against the New York Jets while speaking with the “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday.

Here’s a recap of Rodgers’ appearance on the weekly show:

— Rodgers said he loved the entire London experience. He thought at least 70 percent of the crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were Packers fans. “Overall, really fun trip.”

— On the second half troubles on offense: Part of it was not having the ball. Didn’t start a second possession until into the fourth quarter. Also complimented  Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. “I have a ton of respect for Wink…they are aggressive, they come after you…they threw a lot at us.”

— Rodgers called Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence a “premier player.” The Packers interior offensive line said he’s one of the best defenders they’ve faced this year.

— Rodgers said he wasn’t taking a shot at Jaire Alexander following the loss to the Giants. He said it’s his job as a “mouthpiece” for the team to create positive narratives in the locker room and refocus the team for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

— Rodgers said that “maybe” A.J. Dillon would have scored on the fourth down play. He said running against that look isn’t usually the right play. “Empty pressure, you’re not really thinking of handing it off.”

— Rodgers said he thinks his Hail Mary on the final play likely would have gotten to the end zone. He got hit instead. Said he needed to buy more time to let the receivers get to the end zone.

— Rodgers said he got “rocked” on the final play. His thumb is a “little banged up” but he doesn’t think the injury will affect his throwing this week.

— Rodgers said he wanted to run a very specific play on the third down play on the final drive. Said the Giants played the look well but he also believed it could have been a touchdown to Randall Cobb had the throw gotten through the line.

— On Cobb: “I felt like he was trending in this direction getting more opportunities.” Said he made the most of his chances against the Giants. Not expecting 13 targets. “I have a lot of trust in him, always have.” Said he looks healthy.

— Said the touchdown pass to Marcedes Lewis was an old play designed by Nathaniel Hackett. “Definitely wanted to get him a touch.” Said Lewis is one of the offense’s top 11 players. “Dominates” in the run game. Hopes he can get more looks in the red zone.

— Rodger said he wants more opportunities for Allen Lazard.

— Rodgers on embracing expectations: “When we come up short, we’re going to be accountable, but we’re not going to panic.”

— Rodgers said he isn’t a fan of reviewing roughing the passer penalties. Didn’t work with pass interference. Admitted it’s “tough to play defense” given the new penalties and policing of the quarterback position.

Live updates from Packers’ joint practice No. 1 with Saints

Follow along with all the live news and updates from the Packers’ first joint practice with the Saints on Tuesday.

The Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints are holding the first of two joint practices on Tuesday morning at Ray Nitschke Field in Green Bay.

Follow along below as we provide live updates from the practice on Tuesday:

– Packers coach Matt LaFleur said the two teams will skip one-on-one drills and will instead jump right into team periods to help avoid escalating tempers and creating fights.

– LaFleur said Elgton Jenkins, Robert Tonyan and Christian Watson won’t be participating in 11-on-11 periods. The trio came off the PUP list on Sunday and will only do individuals.

– Saints quarterback Jameis Winston, who is dealing with a foot injury, is in pads on Tuesday, per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Andy Dalton was still the Saints No. 1 quarterback.

– The Packers released tight end Dominique Dafney, running back BJ Baylor and offensive lineman George Moore before Tuesday’s practice to get the roster to 85 players.

– The Packers also released rookie linebacker Ellis Brooks.

– Here’s Aaron Rodgers getting ready for the first joint practice.

– Rookie Romeo Doubs already causing havoc. He forced a defensive pass interference penalty against Marshon Lattimore in 11-on-11.

– Sloppy start for the Packers offense vs. the Saints. Several penalties, per Andy Herman.

– A good stretch from the No. 1 defense, including several disruptive plays.

– Backup safety Shawn Davis created a pick-six of Saints quarterback Ian Book.

– The Packers defense is making life difficult on Dalton and the Saints.

– Another day, another touchdown for Romeo Doubs.

– More positive signs from rookie Kingsley Enagbare. He’s really stacking good days.

Potential injury situation for rookie receiver Danny Davis.

– More hard count magic from 12.

– Lazard carving up the Saints, as is tradition. Big play in the two minute.

– Here’s something to monitor: Rashan Gary is dealing with some type of new injury.

– A breakup from Jaire Alexander wins the two-minute period for the Packers defense.

– Defensive lineman TJ Slaton ended practice with a sack. His arrow is pointed straight up right now.

Tuesday betting odds for Florida vs LSU, per BetMGM

Floria Gators football takes on the LSU Tigers this weekend and UF carries a hefty favorite in this one by more than three touchdowns.

[jwplayer YRs3jkxx-er0jUifI]

The final game of the 2020 regular season schedule is rapidly nearing, as the Florida Gators get set to host the LSU Tigers in a matchup that was originally scheduled for October but pushed back due to coronavirus concerns.

UF is considered a strong favorite against the floundering former national champions in a story of two programs headed in opposite directions this year. Possessing both a superior roster as well as the home-field advantage, it is pretty easy to project a Gators victory on Saturday.

BetMGM oddsmakers dropped the Gators a point to a 23.5-point favorite while the over/under remains at 68.5.

The game will kick off at 7 p.m. EST on Dec. 12 in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, Florida. The game will be broadcast on ESPN, can be live-streamed on the ESPN app and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.

Cowboys expecting Lamar Jackson to play, Ravens won’t confirm or deny

The Cowboys are preparing to face the league’s MVP on Tuesday night, but the Ravens are giving no hints about their QB’s COVID status.

“I’m excited that we’re getting the game in, we’re getting a primetime game in, and it’s going to be a different date than normal, but I’m anxious to see how that works for that time of week.”

Those were the words of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Friday morning, speaking with 105.3 The Fan about the team’s upcoming appearance on a rare edition of Tuesday Night Football against the visiting Baltimore Ravens.

But as any football fan who’s been paying the slightest bit of attention can attest, four days out is way too early to count on much of anything… and the health of the Ravens’ players is the biggest X-factor in the league these days.

Baltimore played Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon- a game that had originally been scheduled for six days earlier- with a whopping 17 of their players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, including the league’s reigning MVP, quarterback Lamar Jackson.

“Knock on wood, we’re in good shape relative to the COVID,” Jones said of the Cowboys’ own state of readiness. “Where we are as we speak this morning, we’re in great shape. We all know that the Ravens have been having to make a lot of adjustments; they did play the other day. I don’t have notation here of anything that is, let’s say, accelerated regarding them, but I don’t know about their detail.”

If the Ravens themselves even know who they’ll have available to put on the field at AT&T Stadium, they’re not letting on.

According to Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun:

“Among those also sidelined are running backs Mark Ingram II and J.K. Dobbins, fullback Patrick Ricard, and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee. Tight end Mark Andrews, wide receiver Willie Snead IV, and outside linebacker Matthew Judon all reportedly tested positive over the weekend, which means they’ll likely miss Tuesday’s game.”

Shaffer adds: “Guard Bradley Bozeman said after Wednesday’s loss, the Ravens’ third straight, that ‘a lot of guys had some symptoms.’ But he said he didn’t think anyone was ‘super sick or anything like that.'”

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh reiterated this week that all of the affected players are at the mercy of their COVID test results.

“They all have their different days when they’re possibly allowed to come back, but those are medical decisions, in the end, not coaching decisions,” Harbaugh said Thursday. “So when the doctors clear them to practice, that’s when we’ll have them.”

As for Jackson, who reportedly tested positive on Thanksgiving Day, his status for Tuesday’s contest- 12 days after the fact- remains a mystery. When asked about his starting quarterback and leading rusher specifically, Harbaugh was curt.

“I think I already answered that.”

The Cowboys are moving forward with their game prep under the assumption that Jackson will be ready to roll. So said Dallas coach Mike McCarthy in his Friday press conference.

Rescheduled games on odd days and at weird times. Stadiums with no fans. Players and coaches wearing surgical masks on the sidelines. Heck, the Broncos had to play an entire game with no quarterbacks at all.

So gearing up for a Tuesday night game that may or may not happen against a quarterback who may or may not play is just par for the course in 2020. But Jones says that this kind of uncertainty is, strangely, exactly what the sport is all about.

“We have an oblong football; it’s not round. You can’t really manage a lot which way the ball is going to go when it hits the ground. So you’ve got to be ready for it to go either way. Football is rarely canceled because of the elements. Football is rarely canceled because of injury. Football is a game of attrition, it’s a game of being played under unique conditions, and it’s a game of adjusting. It always has been.”

Tuesday betting odds for Florida vs Tennessee, per BetMGM

UF is favored in its game against the Vols on Saturday in Knoxville but this once-storied but now lopsided could bring some surprises.

[jwplayer E5jzuwsd]

There just four days that separate us from the Florida Gators’ road meeting with the Tennessee Volunteers, a game that UF is strongly favored in but also cannot be overlooked.

Sure, Florida sits in the driver’s seat of the Southeastern Conference East Division, needing just one more win to clinch, but if the Gators are going to have any chance against the juggernaut Alabama Crimson Tide they need to start shaping up on defense and refining their overall game.

On Tuesday, BetMGM oddsmakers kept the Gators a 17-point favorite while the over/under also remained at 61.5.

The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST in Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, Tennessee. The game will be broadcast on CBS, can be live-streamed on the CBS Sports app and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.

Tuesday Night Football: Cowboys-Ravens Week 13 tilt shifts again due to COVID

The Dallas Cowboys came out of their Week 9 bye week with aggression and confidence. With two weeks to prepare, they bubbled up, defeated the Minnesota Vikings and hoped to have turned their season around. Four days later, those hopes came crashing down to earth on Thanksgiving when they were blitzkrieged by the Washington Football Team to drop to 3-8 on the season.

They were scheduled to be able to lick their wounds and try and bounce back a week later, as is their recent November tradition with back-to-back Thursday games. Their next opponent though, the Baltimore Ravens, have been undergoing a COVID-19 crisis and the schedule has been set on it’s head. The Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers were supposed to follow Dallas-Washington, but have now been postponed three times. Of course, that’s had an impact on the Cowboys-Ravens matchup. First moved to the afternoon of Monday, December 7, it has once again shifted to a Tuesday night affair.

First Baltimore-Pittsburgh was pushed to Sunday. Then they were postponed to Tuesday. As the positive test results continue to come in, the game has once again been pushed back, this time to Wednesday.

So the Cowboys now have basically a second full bye week as they’ll be going 12 days in between contests. Dallas, like other teams during this season, have had their schedule turned upside down due to another team’s inadequate approach to the safety regulations. Baltimore traced their outbreak to a strength and conditioning coach who didn’t report his symptoms and was maskless in the facility.

The list of their players who have tested positive is extensive and star-studded. QB Lamar Jackson and top running backs Mark Ingram and rookie J.K. Dobbins are among multiple dozens of sidelined players and coaches. Their status for the Week 13 game against the Cowboys is up in the air.

Dallas has had their own run-ins with COVID-19, but nowhere to the impact of other teams. This weekend, the Denver Broncos were forced to start a practice squad rookie wide receiver at QB after that entire room was quarantined due to not following safety protocols.

As of now, there’s been no adjustment of Dallas’ Week 14 game, when they travel to Cincinnati, now on just four days rest (after a night game) for a noon CT kickoff.

Wednesday betting odds for Florida vs. Kentucky, per BetMGM

Florida Gators are strong favorites against Kentucky Wildcats but the BetMGM oddsmakers shifted the line in UK’s favor ahead of Saturday

Placed at No. 6 in the debut College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, the Florida Gators (6-1), who are No. 5 in the Amway Coaches Poll Powered by USA TODAY Sports, will welcome the Kentucky Wildcats (3-5) to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday.

Victorious in 52 of the 70 all-time meetings, including 32 of the last 33 dating to 1987, Florida, who is in the driver’s seat in the Southeastern Conference East Division as the only of the seven teams with just a lone loss, will need to continue their success against the Lexington-based outfit to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive.

Updating their daily odds, BetMGM moved the line slightly in the Wildcats’ favor, listing the Gators as a 22.5-point favorite. The over/under saw a bit of a jump, as well, moving to 61.5.

Saturday’s clash will kick at 12 p.m. EST on ESPN and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.

Tuesday betting odds for Florida vs Kentucky, per BetMGM

Florida Gators football will host the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend in Gainesville with UF coming in as a strong favorite vs its SEC foe.

[jwplayer moe4b2fM]

We are one day closer to gameday when the Florida Gators host the Kentucky Wildcats in the friendly confines of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday. UF is a strong favorite to win this game, though there is still some time for things to change — as unlikely as that might be.

While we patiently await kickoff, the oddsmakers are busy figuring out how the game will go down, adjusting their numbers to every minuscule change that occurs as the week goes on. Today’s odds feature a bit of a tweak in the overall offense expected in the game.

BetMGM oddsmakers have the Gators remaining a 24-point favorite but the over/under bumped up by four points to 59.5 today.

The game will kick off at 12 p.m. EST in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, Florida. The game will be broadcast on ESPN, can be live-streamed on the ESPN app and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.
