Ranking Heisman Trophy candidates as the season winds down

Most deserving Heisman Trophy candidates through Week 11

The race for college football’s most prestigious award, the Heisman Trophy, is wide open with no clear favorite through 11 weeks. No player has separated themselves from the pack but heading into rivalry and conference championship weekends someone will rise above the rest.

The 2021 winner, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young, is seemingly out of the mix after losing two games and missing another due to injury. The Tide has had four different winners at three separate positions under head coach Nick Saban.

In recent years, the award has heavily favored quarterbacks and that will likely remain the same this season. While there is still much time to put together a convincing Heisman campaign, as of right now here is who is most deserving.

Heisman Trophy rankings after Week 10: Hendon Hooker drops, Stetson Bennett rises

Updated Heisman Trophy rankings: Stetson Bennett up, Hendon Hooker down

In most cases, the Heisman Trophy is a quarterback award. The chances of repeating for Alabama quarterback Bryce Young are looking awfully slim after losing to LSU in Week 10. Bad games for Ohio State’s CJ Stroud and Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker dropped them in the rankings while Georgia’s Stetson Bennett sees a major rise this week.

But let’s not forget about Michigan running back Blake Corum, who has been on an absolute tear this season. He’s looking to become the first running back to win the award since Derrick Henry in 2015.

I included plenty of guys you’ve maybe never heard of who play for smaller programs but are putting up crazy stats. My new favorite is Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson, who is averaging 15.6 tackles per game and leads the FBS by 33 with 141 tackles this season.

Last year’s winner Bryce Young survived a scare that could have prevented him winning back-to-back trophies this weekend against Texas. And then there’s Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, a player nobody was considering for the award this offseason. But the reigning national champ continued to impress this past weekend and has put up great numbers this season.

If you’re looking to do some betting research on this year’s Heisman winner, you’re in luck! We’ll give you the latest odds, as well as the stats you’ll need to make the smartest bet at Tipico Sportsbook.

Notre Dame-USC: fun facts about epic rivalry

For the first time in two fulls years we can say it: Beat SC.

Notre Dame and USC have made up the greatest intersectional rivalries in all of college football for nearly a century and get set to meet for the 92nd time this Saturday in South Bend.

Last year didn’t see the Irish and Trojans meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Pac-12 not playing out of conference games, the first time the schools didn’t meet since World War II.

Order is restored and things return to normal this Saturday as Notre Dame welcomes USC to South Bend as the rivalry gets renewed once again.

Ever wondered how these two programs came to be great rivals?  Here are 10 things to know about the history of Notre Dame and USC:

Alabama quarterback and wide receiver duo Mac Jones and Devonta Smith are now the top two with odds on betmgm to win the 2020 Heisman trophy

The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Arkansas on Saturday to complete their perfect 2020 regular season in a year that was anything but.

The offense, headlined by quarterback Mac Jones, is full of talent that includes wide receiver DeVonta Smith and runningback Najee Harris.

An offense as lethal as the 2020 Crimson Tide’s appears to be unmatched in today’s game. Jones and Smith are just an unstoppable combination.

In fact, they are the two players with the highest odds to win the 2020 Heisman trophy according to BetMGM.

Two Georgia football players named semifinalists for prestigious awards

A pair of Georgia football players were named semifinalists for prestigious CFB awards.

Two Georgia Bulldogs have been named semifinalists for a pair of college football’s most prestigious postseason awards.

Andrew Thomas, a junior left tackle, was named one of six semifinalists for the Outland Trophy, which goes to America’s top interior lineman.

Joining Thomas on the list is:

OC Tyler Bidasz (Wisconsin), DT Derrick Brown (Auburn), OT Penei Sewell (Oregon), OG John Simpson (Clemson) and OT Tristan Wirfs (Iowa).

I could definitely see Thomas bringing home the trophy, but Auburn’s Brown poses a tough fight. Currently, Thomas is a top-five pick in almost every NFL mock draft I’ve seen.

On Monday, the list of six will be trimmed to three and the winner will be announced at ESPN’s College Football Awards on December 12th from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Georgia junior safety J.R. Reed was named a semifinalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is given to America’s best defensive player.

Reed is joined by Brown (Auburn), LB Isaiah Simmons (Clemson), DB Antoine Winfield Jr. (Minnesota) and DE Chase Young (Ohio State).

Right now, this trophy is looking like it’s Young’s to lose, despite the fact hew was suspended for a portion of the season. But Reed has been a consistent force in the secondary all season and will go on to a long NFL career.
