Wide receiver prospects for Chargers to watch at 2023 Senior Bowl

Profiling the wide receivers at the 2023 Senior Bowl that could be on the Chargers’ radar.

The Senior Bowl game kicks off on Saturday, February 4th, after a full week of practice, evaluation, and interviews for nearly 100 of college football’s top senior players. To get prepared, Chargers Wire will preview each position group set to compete in Mobile, Alabama, continuing today with the wide receiver group.

Los Angeles will, presumably, be looking for speed at receiver this offseason after failing to consistently stretch the field all season despite Justin Herbert’s talents. But Tom Telesco and Brandon Staley have been clear: speed is nice, but any future Chargers receiver also needs to be able to win at every level of the field.

Tracking how every LSU transfer fared in 2022

Here’s how LSU transfers fared around the country in 2022.

The modern era of college football is full of transfers.

Most big programs are going to see several come and go each year, and LSU has been no exception. Considering the Tigers just went through a coaching transition, they might even have lost more than your average team.

We saw a few transfers go on to have major success this year, such as [autotag]Trey Palmer[/autotag] at Nebraska. Here is a look at how LSU transfers fared in 2022. These aren’t just guys that left last year, but anyone that left the program in the last few years and saw action this fall.

At the end, we’ll look at the takeaways and evaluate who LSU is probably wishing it kept and who just needed to go their separate ways.

Nebraska WR Trey Palmer declares for 2023 NFL Draft

Nebraska WR Trey Palmer announced that he will enter the 2023 NFL Draft

On Saturday, November 26th, Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Trey Palmer announced that he will enter the 2023 NFL Draft.

“Husker Fans, thank you for embracing me and my family at the University of Nebraska,” Palmer wrote. “There’s no other fan base with your energy and love in that stadium. The ‘Husker! Power!’ Chant still gives me chills. I am truly blessed! After careful consideration with my family and coaches, I’ve decided not to return to school and prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft.”

Palmer is coming off a historic season for Nebraska, in which he set new school records for receiving yards in a single season (1,043) and receiving yards in a single game (237).

Palmer projects to be a Day 2 pick in the draft. PFF’s Michael Renner ranked Palmer as the 95th overall prospect in his latest big board.

Inside the Box Score: Key stats from Nebraska’s win over Iowa

Let’s take a look at two key stats from Nebraska’s over Iowa

The Nebraska Cornhuskers pulled off an upset over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday! The Cornhuskers entered the matchup on a five-game losing streak, while the Hawkeyes were in the midst of a four-game winning streak.

In the first quarter, quarterback Casey Thompson was able to connect with wide receiver Trey Palmer for an 87-yard touchdown pass. Thompson connected with Palmer, once again, in the second quarter for an 18-yard touchdown. At halftime, the Cornhuskers had built a strong 17-0 lead. However, things got shaky late in the game, as the Hawkeyes scored ten unanswered points. Nevertheless, the Cornhuskers were able to hold on for the 24-17 victory.

Here are two standout stats.

Trey Palmer breaks Nebraska receiving record

Nebraska WR Trey Palmer broke the school’s single season receiving yards record.

On Friday, Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Trey Palmer had a historic night, as he broke the school’s single season receiving yards record. The record was previously held by Stanley Morgan, who had 1,004 receiving yards in 2018. A touchdown reception in the second quarter brought Palmer over that mark. At the conclusion of the game, Palmer has 1,043 receiving yards this season.

It has been a historic season for Palmer. In October, he broke Nebraska’s single game receiving record with 237 receiving yards against Purdue. In addition, he became the first FBS player this century with at least 225+ receiving yards and 50+ rushing yards in a game.

Below is a short photo gallery of Palmer’s season.

Week 13 Iowa opponent preview: Breaking down the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ offense

The Iowa Hawkeyes host Nebraska in Week 13. Here is an offensive outlook for what the Cornhuskers will try to do and who to watch.

Week 13 for the Iowa Hawkeyes is for all the marbles. The Big Ten West is on the line with a win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Just simply find a way to win this game and you are going back to Indianapolis for a second year in a row.

In their way stands the Cornhuskers in the midst of a turbulent year. With the early season firing of Scott Frost after a rather unsuccessful tenure in Lincoln, Nebraska has been led by interim head coach Mickey Joseph. It is unfair to give him a grade on this season as he took over a brutal situation and is trying to get this team to the offseason to regroup.

This matchup is a rivalry and Nebraska knows they can play ultimate spoiler. They will have to get something going offensively against the stout Iowa defense should they want to make this interesting in Kinnick Stadium.

Offensive/Defensive Players of the Week from Nebraska’s loss to Wisconsin

Here are the Offensive/Defensive Players of the Week from Nebraska’s loss to Wisconsin

On Saturday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers lost their fifth consecutive game, as they were defeated by the Wisconsin Badgers 14-15. The Cornhuskers entered the fourth quarter with a 14-3 lead, but the Badgers were able to rally from behind.

However, there were some bright spots. Quarterback Casey Thompson returned to the lineup after a two-game absence. Defensively, the Cornhuskers were able to hold the Badgers to only 83 passing yards, which was their second-lowest mark of the season.

Individually, there were a few standout performances. Without further ado, here are Nebraska’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week from their loss to Wisconsin.

Three LSU players among ESPN’s top transfers in college football this season

LSU’s transfer haul is a major reason Year 1 under Brian Kelly has been such a success so far.

The roster rebuild LSU undertook this offseason under first-year coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] simply wouldn’t have been possible prior to the transfer portal era.

Heading into last year’s Texas Bowl, LSU had just 39 available scholarship players. After a mass exodus of talent to the transfer portal and the draft, things looked like they could be dire in Baton Rouge in 2022.

But Kelly quickly flipped the script, bringing in a talented haul of transfers. Many of those players are currently starting for the 6-2 Tigers, and three of them were named among the top 50 transfers in college football this season by ESPN. Former players [autotag]Trey Palmer[/autotag] and [autotag]Dwight McGlothern[/autotag], who transferred to Nebraska and Arkansas, respectively, are also listed.

Here’s where each LSU player stacks up.

Offensive/Defensive Players of the Week from Nebraska’s loss to Purdue

Here are the Offensive/Defensive Players of the Week from Nebraska’s win over Rutgers

On Saturday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers suffered a 37-43 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers.

Nebraska’s offense was rolling, as they put up 476 total yards. They eclipsed Purdue in both yards per pass (12.2) and yards per rush (5.3).

Unfortunately, Nebraska’s defense struggled to get stops. Purdue had 608 total yards; it is the second-most yards that Nebraska has allowed in a single game this season. Purdue was able to consistently extend drives. They were 9-18 on third down and 2-2 on fourth down.

Despite the loss, there were some memorable individual performances. Without further ado, let’s take a quick look at the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
