Ohio State basketball will host 2025 five-star Michigan guard this fall

The Buckeyes are making a move with one of the nation’s best guards

It’s been a stark contrast in recruiting styles for Ohio State basketball since Jake Diebler was hired to take over for Chris Holtmann.

The new Buckeye coach has brought in a great first transfer class, which included two former 5-star prospects in center Aaron Bradshaw and power forward Sean Stewart.

There is plenty of potential for the 5-stars to keep ending up in Columbus, as 2025 Michigan shooting guard, [autotag]Trey McKenney[/autotag], has set up a visit for the weekend of October 26 according to 24/7 High School Hoops. He’s one of the top prospects in the nation, ranking as the No. 15 overall player in his class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6-foot, 4-inch, 225-pound star would pair well at the position with current guard commit Dorian Jones. Diebler has shown that he can reel in the big fish, and the Buckeyes hope that’s the case again with McKenney.

Michigan 2025 5-star shooting guard has set up a visit to Notre Dame basketball

The Irish will get a shot to wow one of the nation’s top guards

Notre Dame basketball has done enough to impress Michigan shooting guard [autotag]Trey McKenney[/autotag] for him to schedule a visit to South Bend in the near future.

The 6-foot, 4-inch and 225-pound shooter is considered one of the top players nationally. McKenney is ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect and 3rd at his position according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

According to a report by Joe Tipton of On3, McKenney has scheduled visits to USC, Michigan State, Oregon, Creighton and the Irish. Just by reading between the recruiting lines, Notre Dame seems to be in a very good position with the 5-star prospect as he moves on in his recruitment.

McKenney is also considering visiting a few other schools, but nothing has been set up with them at the moment. The schools that do have visit upcoming should be viewed as the favorites in his recruitment.

Dana Altman to get visit from No. 1 shooting guard in 2025 class

Trey McKenney, the Michigan State Player of the Year, has a scheduled visit to Eugene.

The last time Oregon got the No. 1 basketball recruit out of Michigan, it worked out well, with Malik Hairston going on to have quite a legacy in Eugene.

Now they are going to try their hand again in that state with the recruitment of shooting guard Trey McKenney, according to On3 Sports’ writer Joe Tipton.

McKenney is the No. 15 overall recruit in the Class of 2025 and is rated as the best player in Michigan. Joining the Big Ten Conference will open some Midwest doors for the Ducks and this is proof of just that.

But Oregon has some competition for the 6-foot-4 McKenney’s services. He has scheduled visits to USC, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Creighton.

Out of St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.) McKenney led the Eaglets to a 27-1 record and their first state championship since 2000. He averaged 22.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest.

Kentucky basketball coaching staff has contacted 2025 recruit Trey McKenney

Kentucky basketball has been in contact with 2025 top 20 recruit Trey McKenney.

The list of 2025 recruits that Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope has spoken to continues to grow. Top 20 player Trey McKenney is a recent addition, and one that is very talented.

McKenney is a 6’4″, 225 lb combo guard who comes in as the 17th ranked player by 247sports. He’s rated five-stars and has offers from multiple SEC schools, as well as Kansas and Ohio State.

Kentucky’s coaching staff recently watched McKenney put up 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The star recruit knew that Alvin Brooks was coming and said that he did see him there.

McKenney spoke to Kentucky Sports Radio about the Wildcats and what he thinks of the program.

You never think (John) Calipari would leave Kentucky, but Kentucky itself, even before Calipari they were a powerhouse. Kentucky is one of the biggest schools in college basketball so having them talk to me is a blessing.

He hasn’t received an offer from Kentucky yet, but said it would mean a lot to get one. McKenney added that he isn’t taking visits until the fall, leaving Pope and his staff time to make an offer, if they decide to do so.

Rutgers basketball offers sharp-shooting Michigan guard Daniel Smythe

Rutgers basketball offers Daniel Smythe, a guard from Michigan.

On Tuesday, an offer went out from Rutgers basketball to guard Daniel Smythe. The guard from Michigan is coming off a very strong senior season.

Last season, St. Mary’s finished the season 27-1. If that school sounds familiar, it is because St Mary’s features [autotag]Trey McKenney[/autotag], the MaxPreps Player of the Year in the state.

McKenney is a four-star recruit and one of the top players in the class of 2025 who is heavily being recruited by Rutgers. He is the No. 12 player in the nation in the 247Sports Composite.

On Tuesday, Smythe tweeted about the offer from Rutgers:

Recently, Smythe was offered by Hillsdale College, a Division II program based in Michigan that has a powerhouse men’s basketball program.
