Two Spartans featured on preliminary World Juniors rosters

As the World Junior’s approaches, two Spartans are featured on preliminary rosters

Michigan State hockey has seen a resurgence under Adam Nightingale, which has culminated in the Spartans being ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation.

With the added improvement in East Lansing, the Spartans have gotten more recognition. Part of that recognition is players being selected for World Juniors rosters, an annual tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 teams.

Two Spartans have made preliminary rosters.

After winning gold a year ago, Trey Augustine is expected to be on the USA team once again as the starting goaltender. It would be his third appearance with USA in the WJC.

Maxim Strbak is featured on Slovakia’s roster, and it would be his fourth appearance for the nation in the WJC.

The 2025 World Junior Championship will begin on Dec. 26 and take place in Ottawa.

Trey Augustine eyeing return to MSU hockey for sophomore season

MSU goalie Trey Augustine appears to be eyeing a sophomore season in East Lansing

Trey Augustine made himself a household name for Michigan State hockey this past season. The freshman goaltender was one of the best netminders in the nation, despite being the youngest goalie in the nation. In amazing news for Spartan fans, it appears that Augustine is eyeing a return to East Lansing for his sophomore season.

Augustine was a second round pick by the Detroit Red Wings last season and would have an option to go professional if he, or the organization, wanted him to. It looks like he will be donning the green and white again next season, though.

Two Michigan State hockey players honored with All-Big Ten selections

Two Michigan State hockey players honored with All-Big Ten selections

Well, this one might be a little controversial. Two Michigan State hockey players were honored with All-Big Ten selections on Tuesday, but only one of them made the First Team: Artyom Levshunov, the Spartans extremely talented freshman defenseman.

That’s not the one that may be controversial. What will be divisive is the fact that MSU goalie Trey Augustine was named to the Second Team, losing out on the First Team spot to Wisconsin goalie Kyle McClellan.

Both players were named to the All-Freshman team, as you’d expect.
